"Now Showing"

Watched Dumbo today in college.
Been ages since I've last seen it (must be at least 10 years now) and I was surprissed at how short it was. It started off well. But the ending seemed really rushed. The film ended basically 10 minutes after he found out he could fly. And the bit where they were drunk (yes in a kids animation) with all the singing and dancing white elephants went on for too long and was more like they were stoned than pissed.
Still quite good with some sad scenes but it's aged badly and is not as good as I remembered it as a child.
4/10

Just watched Charlie Wilson's War on DVD.

Its ok, I never expected something amazing. It started quite badly imo but it did get better.

Rating: 3/5

Watch Batman: The Dark Knight with my sister, Boo (we call her this), who has yet to see the film.

Traditionally, we pause every now and then to make sense of things that we (rather she, seeing as I've seen it 3 times and still love it) don't get. So we made a 2 hour movie last 3 and a half hours.

Now, for those who haven't seen the movie: what the hell. It's a wonderfully epic movie with excellent shots and several sections that left my sister's mouth open. It's not only great effects, but excellent acting and superb storytelling. It dragged a bit and was lengthy, but I think it's just because I've seen it a bit too much.

Overall, excellent film. And if you haven't seen it, get your bum to the video store and rent it. And be prepared for epic ****ing win.

10/10

I call my little sister Boo as well!

But anyways, the Dark Knight was NOT only two hours long. It was at least two and a half, if not more, because I remember sitting in the theatre seat wondering when it would be done. Still a good movie, but way too long, and way too confusing.

The only thing that was confusing about The Dark Knight was why everyone raved so much about it :p

^ Yeah, that too, for sure. Like, it was definitely an action packed movie and all that, and the actors were certainly good, especially the Joker, but it wasn't one of the top fims of all time or anything.

Buh? I really really wish people would make more (if any...) adult CG films.
You mean that you have missed:
Appleseed (2004)
Appleseed Ex Machina (2007)
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001)
Ghost In the Shell 2: Innocence (2004)
Ghost in the shell 2.0 (remake of the classic from 1995) (2008)
Vexille (2007)
These are just a few I can think of now. I think that most of them are available in English, but if you are looking for animated/CG movies for an older audience then I would recommend you to learn some Japanese and then you can find loads of movies, tv series, etc.

But then again there is some H-rated stuff, if you are really looking for some "adult" stuff :)

Appleseed (2004) <-Anime
Appleseed Ex Machina (2007) <-Anime
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001)<-This film was baaaad
Ghost In the Shell 2: Innocence (2004)Anime, not a new IP
Ghost in the shell 2.0 (remake of the classic from 1995) (2008)-<Same as above, and a remake
Vexille (2007)<-Also an anime?

So, other than Japan, we still have nothing? :p

I get what you mean, but I'm thinking of new CG studios that feel compelled to make family movies because of the current climate of CG films being a "genre" rather than an artform.

It irritates me that people thought that Ratatouille *had* to be funny because it was Pixar and a family movie. Le sigh.

While this may not be the best example, you get what I mean.

Watched Batman Dark Knight last night on BluRay and I was very impressed.

I thought it would lose something going from big screen to home tv but it never. The scenes shot on Imax worked really well.

^^ You mark movies as Anime, like it's a bad thing. Anime isn't a genre, it's just the name for animated stuff in Japan, just the same thing that Manga is the name used for Japanese Comics. How many of them have you actually seen?

The reason why all "Western" CG film makers only make children/family movies, is that there is a widespread idea that animated movies are for children. Same goes for Comics.

In Asia on the other hand Anime and Manga's are much more widespread, they range from stuff for very small children to dramas to action flicks to hardcore porno's. There is a completely different culture over there, so If you really want to see more of that kind of stuff then Japan is the answer.

That said, anime/manga have in the recent years really started to boom over here. But the main thing that comes here are still for children/family's since the companies that bring them over here are still thinking in old habits that animated stuff is for children...

And after watching Resident Evil.... I have to say that it's really badly made compared to most of the ones I listed (except for that Final Fantasy one since it sucks).

No, I marked them as anime because they were all from Japan. It's just to prove the point that they're all coming from one area.

Personally, I *love* anime*, it just grates that no one else thought that maybe adults would like to watch something that has to include slapstick in order to keep the small ones interested.

*I'm SO excited that more FMA is coming out soon, ohmygod...

That's because most movies you like have the depth of a ditch on the side of the road. ;)

Watch it more then once.

There are SEVERAL hints of what's going to happen (known as foreshadowing) and has great storytelling elements. Each time I've watched it I found something I've missed, which made it make more sense.

You should watch a movie with Boo and Me, where we explain it to each other. It helps :D

900 posts! woot!

Explain why people think it's good then please Error? I've already written an essay on why it's not as good as could be :p

I didn't think it was as good as it was hyped up to be. And I certainly wouldn't call it the best film ever. Or even film of the year for a matter of fact. :p

It's all a matter of personal opinion, now isn't it? ;)

It's to the same effect of why some people obsess with that god-awful movie twilight and why I think it should be burned to the ground. Or why some people question why I watch and enjoy Star Trek.

Comes down to personal opinion, but Batman seemed to have a lot in it for everyone over the age of 16. Excluding romance, but that's boring crap anyways.

I finally got around to seeing The Dark Knight this weekend. While it was certainly good, I'm not seeing all the 10 out of 10's everyone gives it. For one thing, it was too long.. by the end I found myself looking at my watch wondering how much longer it would be. The plot was good and the acting was pretty convincing, although I found Batman's voice to be rather on the hilarious side rather then the intimidating I think they were shooting for. All in all, though, a pretty good movie-- I'd probably say a 9/10

We also watched Horton Hears a Who. While I didn't give it as high of a rating, I think I enjoyed it more then Dark Knight... it was funnier then I had expected it to be. The ending fell a little bit short in terms of the quality the rest of the movie had, although it was still pretty amusing in general. 8/10

I think it's all about the "bar".

Basically.. modern films tend to be a bit poo and short on anything aproaching a story.

So if you have an average film come out which is better than all the other stuff out there at the moment.. Then all of a sudden people start to think it's story is up there with "war and peace" and other works of great fiction (like the bible).

Wow.. I never knew foreshadowing had an E.

Of course.. never have I ever had the need to use that word..
