What's new

"Now Showing"

^Two kids who watch Rambo and then basically make their own short film where one of them is the son of Rambo and he has to go save him. Obviously there is far more than that but thats kinda the gist of it without giving too much away.

Cloverfield- possible spoilers

All I can say is that his was hyped up way too much and that it didn't live up to my expectations at all. The only thing that kept me interested was the way that they filmed it, and the only part that was even cool was when the monster first hit and when that chick like, started bleeding from her eyes.

Also, how on Earth do you survive a pole going through your heart pretty much, and not even that, how do you RUN right after the pole is pulled out? Oh, and how do you survive a few hundred foot helicopter crash almost unscathed?

Yeah, didn't deserve all of the praise it got. I should've rented Sweeney Todd instead.

6/10

1. It wasn't through the heart.
2. Surviving that crash is more the possible. The helicopter isn't falling INCREDIBLY fast, but at a decent rate.
3. I agree.. it wasn't as good as many people said.

^I too loved Cloverfield. One of my favourite movies of this year so far.

But I agree, it'll probably be a film with one of the biggest differences between viewing in the cinema and on DVD. Hence why I saw it at the cinema with my friends twice.

I'll still probably buy the DVD though. The cover looks awesome too!

Whether it was through the heart or not, she would NOT have been running like she was doing right after. Yeah I understand she kind of needed to run but she pretty much showed no signs of pain.

The crash, yeah, it was from like two hundred feet. It's possible to survive, but they just sorta walked away from it. You'd probably at least have some broken bones.

Glad you agree with me; whether I had seen it in cinema or not, it was grossly over rated. Not even near as good as people made it out to be.

If my memory decides to work correctly I do believe they are all limping etc as if they had just sprained an ankle or something.

Cloverfield was ok, maybe overhyped but I think that was part of the idea.

Also its meant to be better on DVD, apparently watching it at home makes you feel like your watching your mates home video which makes it feel more, I suppose, intense/realistic.

Yes you should have watched Sweeney Todd, but Cloverfield is ok so therefore I will let you off :p

I loved Cloverfeild and Sweeney Todd. Although after watching Sweeney Todd for the 4th time in the same week it started to get a little boring.

Anyway, I watched Cars last night and it was pants. Waste of time, so I won't even bother writing a decent review on it. :p

And Tay if your moaning about all the little things that happened in Cloverfield, i'd love to ehar what you though of the ending.

Yeah, I'll watch Sweeney Todd eventually, but I figured that Cloverfield was gonna be something spectacular because of the way people hyped it up and said it was amazing.

Cars sucks, I agree.

I already knew the ending of Cloverfield would be crap, but it was a realistic way I suppose to end it, at least more realistic than the helicopter crash and the big pokey thing through that girl's chest.

Cars is one of the better Pixar movies.

Only Toy Story and The Incredibles are better, in my opinion.

Lain is quite right....apart from the fact that he clearly missed out the fact that Ratatouille is also a fantastic film.

Peeps that say Cars is complete trash are usually talking garbage.

Blatantly.

Apart from when they say Ratatouille is also a fantastic film.

Cars is amazing. Of course, it helps to have an American view of NASCAR to get most of the jokes, but meh.. :p Still a great flick.

Fell asleep partway through watching American Gangster last night. From what I saw it was really good, quite thrilling, in a semi-Scarface sort of way.

I actually thought Ratatouille was a big ol' bag of meh.

Oh well. :p

Let's look at your signature Lain :)

I've got some catching up to do!

What've I seen recently?

Smokin' Aces:
Very similar to Lucky Number Slevin. I think there are a few of these kind of violent gangster type films which try and fill in a gap left by Quentin Tarantino and Guy Richie. I don't think it's a mix which works particularly well, they never have enough style that the aforementioned do. They also have a rubbish 'twist' at the end. It's not a bad film, but nothing spectacular. It had a great couple of scenes, but overall, it was very 'meh' - 6/10

Escape from LA:
John Carpenter cheese! Absolutely abysmal film in every way - except it's entertainment value. Switch off, and laugh at how dreadful it all is  1/10 for entertainment value :)

I am Legend:
Sunday afternoon film for sure. It's just a trundling film you can wander in and out of, not pay much attention too, just let it get on with it. Again, not a terrible film, but hardly great either. It was good seeing the alternate version though (on the Blu-Ray disk), and the film was more blatant, but better for it.

I've probably seen some other stuff too, but they're the ones I remember at the moment

Big Trouble in Little China tonight I think! :D

^Big Trouble in Little China!!!!

I'd forgotten all about that film. I used to watch it about 3 times a week when I was about 9. Great stuff.

I haven't watched a new film in ages. I was feeling lazy at work today, so made my listening class watch "Vacancy." I've seen it before, but I actually quite like it.

I thought Cars was the worst Pixar film by far :?.

It's appalling isn't it! And Escape from NY is such a fab old B-movie.

I despair about Carpenter, he has a stunning list of films behind him (Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, Escape from NY, The Fog, They Live, Starman, The Thing, even Dark Star), and yet everything he's made since 1995 has been garbage (alright Vampires was watchable, just, mainly because of James Woods).

Saw two films last week. It's SO good to know there are British film-makers out there who understand how to shoot a film! Hammer & Tongs make Son of Rambow look fantastic, especially on such a low budget. The writing's not quite there, and the Amish-style religious subplot is odd, but the acting from the 2 kids is fantastic, it's funny and touching, and even if it doesn't quite perfect the nostalgic recreation it's reaching for, it's still a good film. 7/10

21 on the other hand was film-making-by-numbers. It's a true story, but they obviously felt the need to embellish what *actually* happened with extra sex and violence and danger, and those aspects of the film don't really work. It's competent and watchable enough (if a bit long), but the lazy writing leaves a lot to be desired, and they got so much advertising in they may as well have called it The Hard Rock Casino Film! 4/10
