I guess that's your opinion then! I still like watching the Simpsons; I find it more enjoyable than Futurama, and though Family Guy and South Park are funnier, Simpsons is always the "original" one for me, if that makes any sense.

Although you may not find it funny any more, it's just adjusted to today's audience, and if it still gets the ratings, what's the point of cutting it.
 
I just finished seeing Hostel.

It was actually really good. I thought it was just going to be people getting picked apart with scissors and knifes and stuff, but actually found it quite good. Course the sex scenes were good. ;)
And I was surprissed that there was now blood until about halfway through.

Although I dont understand why the guy who ate the lettuce on the train, at the end he was trying to get people to go there while the train was going away from the place. :p

Still good film.

What does that have to do with anything? I have seen old episodes, but no, I'm only almost 16, so do the math.

I just finished seeing Hostel.

It was actually really good. I thought it was just going to be people getting picked apart with scissors and knifes and stuff, but actually found it quite good. Course the sex scenes were good./quote]

Hostel one was okay, but I thought it would be more gory. It was gory but they spent more time on the sex scenes than on the scary bits. I mean, yeah, the sex scenes didn't bother me but still, for advertising it as a horror film it was half a porno.

Also, I watched it in theatres with my dad when I was like, twelve. You can imagine his displeasure :p .

I went and saw Wanted the other day and it was actually good! I don't usually watch action movies, but this one had a nice mix of humour and action. The effects and stunts were amazing too!

8/10.
 
Hmm, last film I watched was '28 Weeks Later'

I have mixed opinions of this film. To start, the opening is bloody great.

A minor group of characters stranded and isolated in a small village border of London. Including our protagonist at the time, Robert Carlisle. We have a nice setup at this part of the film, some jumpy clips which will really tense the audience. At least from this point of the film we only know the basis of the story.. not much but enough to be satisfied.
This part ends with a minor chase scene, which is very effective towards the audience.

From here on, I find the film to slope downwards into a lifeless, repetetive state. I mean at first the zombies were powerful and intimidating but after 40 mins in, it seems we are just watching the 'The Hills have Eyes' on the set of Eastenders.

Not to mention, the crap dialogue which includes a disfunctional family battling a shed load of zombies through different areas of London. Bored me I must say, just watching each protagonist in turn losing battle in slow pain (which is how i kinda sum up the film slow and painful).

Meerly satisfying for me so its gonna be

Bridge To Terabithia

While I was organizing my CC, I just flipped on the TV and saw this and left it on. Wasn't a bad movie by any means, rather enjoyable.

Watched Hannibal Rising finally... I was a huge fan of the Thomas Harris books (Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs), and loved the films Manhunter and Silence.

So, what was in store here? I didn't read Hannibal rising, because Hannibal was poorly written, and not interesting - Thomas Harris has only written five books in thirty years (roughly), and the two best (RD and SOTL) are pretty much identical, but both took him many years to actually write. Hannibal he wrote pretty much on order of the film studios - I suspect Hannibal Rising was the same.

Anyway, the film.

Erm, if we take it out of 'context' and look at it as any other film, not one about the Lecter we know and love - it's an alright film I suppose. It's quite well directed, if a little perfunctory, and the acting is generally all okay. It's a slow film though, and the story doesn't seem to really have any 'teeth'. It wanders and doesn't seem to settle really. Watching it as a film on it's own (if you knew nothing of the later stuff), it seems a bit disjointed and dull.

However, put into context, the disjointedness makes sense - it's trying to fill in the gaps and give reasons why Lecter is like he is. However, it doesn't work. It's giving pretty poor excuses as to why Lecter is how he is, and it just tries to shoe-horn a back story in - at the expense of an actual story. It's not a story in it's own right, but it's also got too much of a poor story trying to fit in around Lecter's back story that it ruins it.

Essentially, the point is, Lecter is best not being given a background. He is a monster, but so educated and refined. Part of what makes the character so hideously appealing is that he's unknowable, he's unpredictable, and actually chooses to be the way he is - despite his learning.

By giving him excuses, it all falls apart - you're meant to feel sympathy for the character - which in Lecter's case, makes him pathetic, rather than strong. Which just doesn't fit - throughout the other three stroies you feel that Lecter does things just to sate his own pleasure - like listening to good music, or enjoying good prose - violence and cannibalism is just another form of physical pleasure for him, which he is happy with. No excuses, just using his intelligence to allow his urges free reign.

So, score then - well, it's actually okay as a film goes - it ticks most of the right buttons in terms of film making, it's just let down by poor scripting (again, Harris forced to write, rather than getting on with it in his own time) so 3/5
 
Hostel: Part II

Well it seemed to rush at a faster pace than the firs and there were less sex scenes.
But that bit where it showed close up that guy getting his balls and penis, cut, and ripped off made me cringe. :shock:

And the ending was gay with the kids playing football with the woman's head.
It was also hard to keep track of characters in this one. In the first you got to know them quite well. In this on I couldn't remember who was who as the all looked the same. :p

I just got back from seeing Wall-E and it was an interesting movie. I don't really know how to talk about it but it was pretty good and Disney/Pixar did a nice job with it.

Ratatouille

Really nice film. I wasn't sure what to expect from it but heard that it was good.
It, was and it was great that Disney/Pixar went back to their original techniques of making a classic story and showing it.

Had a pleasant evening in last night with Madame_Furie - and ruined it by watching Butterfly on a wheel

Premise: High flying exec, can't do any wrong, bored wife and small girl. Wife and exec get hijacked by somebody who says he's kidnapped their daughter, and goes about ruining their lives.

Pierce Brosnan plays the psycho.

I got the entire plot within ten minutes, and waited one hour twenty more to be proved wrong.

Even though madame_furie didn't get the plot in advance, she still thought it was rubbish!

Pulp Fiction.

I've finally seen it! Yes it was on BBC2 last night, but I watched it on DVD, which was lent to me by a friend before I knew it was on.

Anyway I loved it! Without doubt one of the best films I've seen. Samuel L Jackson's character was great! Pretty funny, especially when he said mofo (full-version) once after the other, when referring to himself and someone else. But wow, does Tarantino sound weird in the role he played.

The storyline was quite random, but surprisingly easy to follow, so I'm glad it got the Oscar for that! Superb ending as well.

10/10.


I might watch L.A Confidential tonight, which was on Film4 not long ago, and we recorded it, so I'll be interested to see how different the two are, considering they're both based around crime in L.A.
 
Hellboy 2.

It was alright. It was a week ago, so I cant really remember much. It was quite entertaining. Mildly funny in places.

7/10 or 3.5/5.
 
Got back a little while ago from seeing Pixar's latest, Wall.e.

Well I was completely blown away...Taylor, your wrong....again. I went in with high expectations and yet I was still amazed by the high quality of animation, story and music. Everything was perfect, it was funny, entertaining and absolutely stunning to look at. Its also a very very emotional film, the whole cinema was nearly in tears towards the end of the film.

The short before the film was also excellent, Presto. It was an absolute classic, very entertaining. I wanna see it again :D

Overall a very original and astounding piece of storytelling. One does indeed love it...Best film Oscar anyone? 5/5!
 
I finally got round to seeing No Country For Old Men.

Absolutely brilliant, right from the start. They got into the storyline almost straight away, with some immediate action too! Despite the psychotic nature of him, I thought the character Anton Chigurh was pretty cool :p.

The rest of the film remained very entertaining and exciting, and while it started to die down a little, the second-to-last scene picked it up a bit. Unfortunately the ending was a joke, and I was expecting to know a bit more about what happened to Anton.

Nevertheless, it's still one of the best films I've seen for a while.

10/10.
