OAKWOOD ANNOUNCES MASSIVE INVESTMENT FOR 2013!

Oakwood Theme Park has announced ambitious plans for a massive new investment programme for 2013.

The Pembrokeshire attraction is to spend more than £4 million creating a major new family park area - featuring a series of new rides and experiences.

The attraction will also include a family friendly restaurant and café alongside outdoor play areas and themed retail experiences.

Park Director Dominic Jones said: "This represents by far the largest investment at the park for more than a decade and is a direct response to visitor feedback we have received.

"As well as creating a must-see new destination for families, the development also represents a major boost for the local economy and will create a number of new jobs.

"It will totally transform the visitor experience and provide a magical new series of attractions aimed specifically at the family market.

"As part of the investment we are also creating family-friendly facilities within the themed area as well as baby-changing facilities, high chairs and microwaves.

"This will be the largest new attraction of its kind in Wales and is the first phase in an ambitious and ongoing programme of investment over the coming years," he added.

The new development will feature seven new rides and attractions, including a spectacular water ride alongside a series of children's play areas and other themed attractions.

Full details of the new attraction will be released early next year. Work is set to start on site in the next few weeks with a planned opening prior to the 2013 summer holidays.

Set in 80 acres of spectacular countryside Oakwood is Wales’ biggest family adventure with more than 30 exhilarating rides and amazing experiences to discover.

A unique combination of attractions includes world-class roller, tower and sky coasters, spectacular family rides, children’s themed play areas and so much more.

Oakwood Theme Park will announce more information in early 2013. For press enquiries and interview opportunities please call 01834 815170.

Brilliant! I wonder if they'll re-theme one of the existing family areas (the wild west area or the clown coaster area) or if it'll be a completely new area.

Oakwood has lacked investment for years. Although this new investment probably isn't going to suitable for me (I smell new kids telly themed land on a similar scale to Peppa Pig World, roughly same cost), it's a step in the right direction for such a lovely park.

The last time Oakwood added a new attraction was in 2008. This is long overdue. Excellent news!

Lol, how many times can they say 'family' in a short announcement? And is calling the restaurant 'family freindly' really necessary?

Still, this is great news, if only for showing that the park management ARE interested in keeping the park alive.

They've apparently been clearing land behind Speed for a little while now, so I'd likely be they're thinking of extending the little kids zone up behind speed to join back up near treetops/under Speed's airtime hill.

This seems like the mot likely thing, and they've had Postman Pat in as a 'guest' before, p'raps that might be on the cards? It was pretty popular, so I heard.

I think it might've even been 2007! It's been a good long while, and the park would have atrophied beyond repair had a season or two gone by without some form of investment. I couldn't be more pleased with their focus - family rides is absolutely what the park has been lacking in, with them removing all their old family stuff to build thrill seeking stuff.

Funny too how they've gone for a fourth water ride. We get enough rain down here as it is. We need no rapids nor log flames.

Family, family, family.

In other words, stuff for toddlers. Yay.

You mean Lost Prophets are going to be there to open it?

Is this the kind of thing that's planning documents will be online somewhere? I've just had a look on the Pembrokeshire applications site, although had no luck. Not sure exactly what I'm looking for.

Besides, Oakwood may have one of them lawful developement orders where they wont require planning permission for most rides.

Does it need planning permission for a microwave to warm baby milk, some high chairs and a bunch of these?

Yeah, image sources should be credited directly below the link.

It's going to take more than this to get me back to Oakwood, the drive from Crewe down to there for the CF Live in 2006 still sends shivers down the spine.

It was a fun place to visit, but it doesn't have enough to warrant a return visit.

I am glad the park is getting some investment though.
