What's new

Oculus Rift

I am at the Arts University Bournemouth. I am studying digital Media Production - which is basically making videos and games and other stuff digital and media related. The majority of it focus on Adobe After effects, and video making of sorts. They also look at stuff relating to Maya and 3D too.

That's really cool.

When I came to Staffs uni, they were doing a course on interactive graphical systems (or something like that). It was essentially art done on computers - which I'd spent years doing as a hobby.

Sadly, as I didn't have any art qualifications, they dumped me on a standard computer (Information Technology) degree instead. I would have loved to do the other course, but I doubt very much I was suited to it  Back then, it was all about doing everything at the pixel level. I've probably still got sheets of fine graph paper with hand drawn pictures on it, with the squares coloured in, split into 8x8 grids so I could convert the binary to digital (when I was coding animation, it was the easiest way as there weren't dedicated packages for it on the ZX Spectrum  ).

Sadly, all my stuff was on computers that have long since gone - but it was great fun.

What you're doing now though I'd love to do [/jealous] :)

Funnily enough my drawing skills, arnt exactly of the highest of standards, despite being in an arts uni. Which is quite odd. But Id say the creativity lies elsewhere. I got it working with the rift today, it was like watching a first child take its first few steps. It was insane.

Do you know any proper ice themed rides? Iv looked at Expedition Everest. But do you know any others that have some proper arctic themes at all?

There's the new "drop" coaster ride at Legoland Denmark - I think that's quite detailed?

Blue Fire at Europa is also themed to it a bit, but the Splash Battle is "icy". May be worth a look.

Possibly also the new penguin enclosure at Sea World. It's been slated, but you may be able to grab a few details?

pretty much all of the texturing and modelling is completed now. I shall post a pov once I have one of the ride basically finished. Next I have to get it into unity, and get it working there and light it. It is looking pretty sexy at the moment.

Hate to bump this, but I have submitted the piece to the oculus share site, so it could be available in the next few weeks.

Shall let you know when it is available, as it is usuable without the rift.

It'll be interesting to see if it'll run on my dogeared laptop. I may have to steal one of the gaming PCs from one of the annoying teens in the house :)

I suspect most people are missing the Oculus Rift, so may struggle to view it :p

I looked at the screenshots though and I love the cell shading idea. It looks really good against the lava :)

Any way you can record it as a demo to just view on YouTube or something simple so others can see it?
