Phantasialand Expansion Planning Procedure Commences

Phantasialand does desperately need an expansion. Whilst they have obviously been maximising what they can do with a park full of rides built right on top of each other without it necessarily always feeling like that, the sheer number of guests does make it feel crowded (not necessarily reflected in waiting times, just overcrowding on paths). They are not going to be able to resolve that without having more space to distribute guests between and probably at least 1 new major attraction.

I wonder what the timescales would be if they could get it through planning? Are they going to be doomed by planning studies taking so long that by the time any decisions are made there will have already been another election?

The great thing about the park is yes, it needs an expansion. But also I would happily spend a week in the park as it is! Anything else added now is just a nice bonus imo

Crazy Bats is a very old ride that could house a major new attraction but you'd only be producing parallel capacity rather than increasing it. Of course they are very creative and could add multiple attractions in the space.

I suspect Universal will open in the UK before any construction begins on a hypothetical expansion.

I think the issue with Crazy Bats is that any redevelopment there is contingent on this expansion. The profitable Fantissima dinner show is currently housed in the same building as the defunt Hollywood Boat ride, which is underneath Crazy Bats. The expansion mentions a new Theatre venue, which could house this in future.

But until that is ready to go, it doesn’t make financial sense to close the show to redevelop that part of the park and lose the revenue for years. Especially seeing as how when Phantasialand redevelops areas it does it without having any time frames at all ().

This expansion permission is hanging over their future development, and will affect the decision making process for that part of the park.
