portemine's creations - Rapace, B&M Launch Invert - 17/11/14

Re: portemine creations' page - New creation trailer, March

Looks a bit retro though...I find that happens with such single-color CS items like those...planters...or whatever they are (just walls?)

Re: portemine creations' page - New creation trailer, March

I actually reached the same conclusion when I tried to match this style with a greater scale.
Watching some other parks led me to believe I can use another scenery than Frameworx for these walls and keeping the same idea. Will take me some time though, as I got back to my studies a week ago.

Re: portemine creations' page - New creation trailer, March

Just a little more variation in texture would make it a lot nicer-looking in my mind. And I definitely understand having studies. It's finals week here and, although today is my birthday, I will do no celebrating as I have two finals and an essay due today. Best of luck with your latest project.

Re: portemine creations' page - New creation trailer, March

Nice idea!
You certainly like to go with boxes, giving an artificial feel, which is definitely unique and some of the things you do are rather cool...

Just out of interest, how much CS do you use? Can't say I've seen a lot.

Re: portemine creations' page

Thank you :)
I currently have 34 CS (a lot more than I expected).

For the coaster supports and accesories :

Steelworx, Steel Jungle v1 and v2, Steel Chaos, Coasterfreak90's Megacoaster supports, Coasterfreak90's Dive Coaster Catwalks, ATH Catwalk

To enhance in-game scenery :

Steelworx, Mouseworx, KLN Framework, SK-HGR71, Vodhin's Girders and Glass

Natural elements :

Shy-Rock Set, Old Spice's Vegetation Set (10 CS alone !), Weber Foliage set, Old Spice's Waterfalls

Doors (not utilized... yet) : Weber animated doors, The Cook's doors

Paths and queues : Weber Path Enhancement, Weber Stairs

Misc : Spaceworx, DasMatze Utilities, Vodhins Stall Test

I also previously utilized MNM Leftovers and SK-HGR51 during my first four years playing rct3.

Re: portemine creations' page

Well, since reddude found pics of Virtu on other websites, there's no use of hiding this project anymore.

Here are a copy-paste of my post on RCTLounge :

Hello ! This is the very first coaster I display here, and it happens to be also very large, as its title suggests.
Virtu is 312 ft (94 m) high and 1.3 miles (2.1 km) long and contains powerful airtime hills and some twists as well. It is supposed to be built inside the heart of a bustling and budding city.
Making an Intamin non-inverting coaster was my very old dream. Never expected to make it so high though, I guess it turned that way since I acted impulsively while trying for a layout and decided to go crazy. Nonetheless the coaster contains very few bumps, if any by RCT3 standards.

I have some coaster-designing experience as I played RCT3 from its release to early 2008, before taking a long break until early this year. Thus I'm pretty outdated as I ignore much about the CS made during my four years of retirement. And given there are so many Custom-things available nowadays, I'd be really glad if you can give me various advices on which one I could use or how I could improve my buildings overall looks. I have many ideas and sketches but it's quite hard to make them 'real' due to the limitations of in-game scenery. So feel free to voice any criticism, suggestion and advice. I still have many things to learn from this game :)

Anyway, it's also the very first time I use CF90's supports and I really enjoy making complex supports for this coaster.

More pics :

The first drop, quite impressive on ride. I feel that the black walls are slightly out-of-place. Any suggestion for CS-wall replacement ?

My attempt at making a Stengel Dive. Turns out pretty nicely in my opinion, since it is actually very smooth. Given the 'in the middle of a big city' theme, I've chosen a different, hybrid support style.

The final section comprises two overbankeds bringing the rider very close to the surrounding towers and a high-speed banked final turn. I experimented with the building on the right.

EDIT : Oh and, I purposely don't use Coaster Joe's Intamin supports, they're really great but I prefer the pre-I305 Intamin supports. I also wanted to give my coaster more a "Thunder Dolphin" feel.

Re: portemine creations' page - Virtu pictures - page 2

Great work Portem!me!
A great adaption of Thunder Dolphin with some great elements (like the Stengel dive) and a rather epic layout! :--D

However, some parts do look a little out of place, but I'm sure they'll be sorted out..

Re: portemine creations' page - Virtu pictures - page 2

Thank you CoasterCrazy. Yeah I'm not satisfied with some parts too, they're indeed temporary and experiments. Theming all that is going to be tough though.

No update today, but like CP10 does for his upcoming project, I'm gonna show how I'm creating Virtu.

Towers are, by definition, high. However, they're also very often composed of the same wall repeated 1000x times. So despite their impressive looks, they don't take that long to build.

Here's how I proceeded :

shot00172.png

I start off by building vertically. You can see each different type of piece I use.

shot00192q.png

shot00182i.png

To check how high is my tower, I use a path and set the 'path height' option

shot00212.png

Then I save the 1x1 "façade" in the building folder.

shot00232.png

To paste it multiple times...

shot00242a.png

I'm done ! Construction took me only 5 minutes, well not exactly as I still have to add details to the building, but the main structure is there.

Yeah that's a very simple strategy indeed. But it could be worth showing, since most of the time the copy-paste option is used horizontally. In my opinion, it's way more handy to use this tool vertically, given RCT3 isn't really made for building such tall structures.

Re: portemine creations' page - Virtu tips March 30th

That's a good point about building in vertical strips instead of horizontal. It can be tough raising saved building segments once you've reached a certain height. Btw, do you make sure to save the entire side when you've finished so you can just copy it for the other three sides?

Re: portemine creations' page - Virtu tips March 30th

Actually, just rotating the same piece to make the other sides is quicker in my opinion.

Re: portemine creations' page - Virtu tips March 30th

Hmm, seems more time consuming but to be honest I haven't ever built building that tall so I can't speak from experience.

Re: portemine creations' page - Virtu tips March 30th

When you load one saved building you can paste it as many times as you want without having to load it again, so in my opinion, it is faster than saving a whole side. Also, doing with a single piece all the way saves much-needed space in my Custom Buildings folder, which is really useful !

Re: portemine creations' page - Virtu tips March 30th

I see what you mean. I really haven't worked with the building editor hardly at all so I didn't know that you could continue pasting over and over. Would be faster then probably.

Before the 'giga' update for Virtu coming this weekend, here's another look back :

erAis (2006) - (Full Thread)
River Rapids
Complete - Download link

erAis utilised legions of MNM's Leftovers rocks. As I re-discovered recently while looking back at the thread in Atari forums, the creator of this rock set, marnetmar, congratulated me for this project :p
My aborted Ice World made me want to create more water rides instead of coasters. Indeed, most of my 2006-2008 ideas were for river rapids, flumes or shoot the chutes. I preferred these rides to coasters back then because I was upset by RCT3's limitations for layout designing, especially as I began playing No Limits at about the same period. This is also my first attempt at playing with the terrain, so it may now seems a bit rushed. This river rapids had a mix of Sci-Fi and Tropical theme, and displays another use of Steelworx for creating buildings. It hasn't aged too well because many elements could henceforth be improved with custom objects.

Re: portemine creations' page - erAis pictures (2006 project

I should build more water rides myself. They can look very pretty. I also used to like making a lot of tropical themed parks in RCT2. I haven't done any of that nature since the Scenarios. Perhaps I have found an idea of what to do for next contest :>

Re: portemine creations' page - erAis pictures (2006 project

I like it but the queue is too short and the station is very boxy. (No offence)

Re: portemine creations' page - erAis pictures (2006 project

It's a previous project. Seems pointless to criticise something in the past as the creator is very likely well aware of faults. For the record I hate the rocks. But, it's in the past.
Using track supports for buildings was interesting. The combination of building elements made it look like an uncanny mechanical-biological setting. Sort of, if Nemesis Roller Coaster was situated in the tropics opposed to the Midlands. Shame it some-what conflicted with the very organic looking palm trees.

Re: portemine creations' page - erAis pictures (2006 project

As I said, erAis hasn't aged very well indeed. I think MNM Levfovers rocks were the only set of rocks available back in 2006, and in any event, I liked them a lot.

*Virtu update*

I began a new skycraper yesterday,

Nice!

How come your creations look amazing....before they are even completed?

Re: portemine's creations - Virtu update tonight (11/4)

Thank you ! I believe that building a skycraper is actually repeating the same wall 500+ times, so a budding tower might already show its style.

Finally some new pictures. It was a frustrating week because the work I've done did not delivered a lot of showable stuff.

Supports on the lift hill and penultimate camelback. Thunder Dolphin inspired.

virtu15copier.jpg

The hill before the Stengel Dive, over a walkway. As you can see, I erased the 'Green bricks' building for a sober one. I noticed some franges are missing, this will be fixed indeed.

Another view at the Stengel Dive to show progress there... and the new Coasterfreak90's trains !
The tower 'defigurated' by Virtù has reached its definitive height of 500ft.

The final overbanked turn has its supports done. Foliage of the small park right under it is still to be completed.
