Rollercoasters and the environment

I'd love to see them transform a wind turbine into a flat ride though.

What, attatch you to the ends of the baldes...that would be scary...or even turn one into a giant ferris wheel... :--D

^Why not, "Experience 90G's, 30 times the amount an Astronaut experiences in blast-off, on this extreme eco-friendly Huss Wind-Rider. Ride the winds at speeds over 90mph, reaching heights of over 150ft!" it could work :p

How will it stop? Or do you just jump on while it's moving...
I'm gonna do some calculations to see if it will work.

EDIT: It won't.

Well, just like you can stop a wind turbine in real life...
Couldn't you just slow it down by increasing the friction on the motor/generator?

^ You just adjust the pitch of the wings to reduce the angle of attack compared to the wind, it's the standard way to stop a real turbine...
But it would be too slow to work as a ride though...

I would imagine the best bet to offer an "environmentally-friendly" option would be for amusement parks to exclusively purchase green energy from their energy providers. Duke Energy, a large energy provider for a lot of the eastern portion of the U.S. is already offering to sell only green energy to consumers. I imagine there would be a way for amusement parks to cash in on this once the green energy infrastructure has expanded enough.

Other green options would be to use recycled materials for structures, recyclable plastics/rubbers, recycled lubricants/oils, etc.

The only factor that limits these efforts, as you find across the board, is cost. Once the cost of green efforts becomes more feasible, or the cost of other means becomes more expensive, we might see some action.

I've got it!!!!

Lay polyester carpet all along the midways and issue wool socks to all guests, who have to walk around in them and no shoes all day.

Every time you go on a ride, you have to touch it first and the static electricity you've built up will discharge and help to power the ride! Simple, effective and doesn't rely on breaking the laws of physics ;)

^^ Liseberg at least are doing just that :)
They are co-owners of a large wind farm south of the park.

To revamp this topic a bit I found this....

Roller Coaster: Familieachtbaan
Amusement Park: BillyBird Park Hemelrijk (Volkel, North Brabant, Netherlands)
Classification: Roller Coaster
Type: Steel - Sit Down
Status: Operating since 7/31/2009
Make / Model: abc rides / All Models / Tube Coaster
Maps: Bing Maps (Satellite) · Google Maps (Satellite)
Height:14 m
Inversions: 0
Notes: This is being called an "Energy Free" coaster. It will use solar power as well as power generated by cross trainers operated by waiting riders.

Looks good, nice layout too...

^Not entirely solar powered, power is generated by guests running on cross trainers whilst queing, but yes, I guess it's mostly solar powered....

Seems a perfect concept for your back garden!

That actually looks really fun. So it is entierly soler powered? Wow. That's awesome.

Did you even read the post...?

It will use solar power as well as power generated by cross trainers operated by waiting riders.

I'm gonna save time here and not post what I'd actually put, but, skip straight to...

No need to be so mean, consider this a warning

I wasn't really sure what cross-trainers were, being 12 and all...
And CoasterCrazy, why did you put it will use... Isn't the coaster already in existance?

Don't worry about it :p ...the energy generated from the cross-trainers is so little that it is barely enough to to work the electronics/screen...so I guess there is barely a differnce in energy generated. Most of it comes from solar power.

And why did I put I will use? I got most of the info from rcdb and the information was probably written before the rides opening....

I wasn't trying to be mean Ben!!!! :--D :--D

I try to be nice to everyone...(if I can)

No! It doesn't force people to operate the cross-trainers...they are just there for anyone who wants to use them.

Not a bad idea if you're extremely bored whilst queueing...
