Small News From The Theme Park Industry

On Instagram a couple weeks back, there was a post about the Vekoma Boomerang Flashback at Six Flags Great Escape getting a new paint job inspired from its original colors. (Blue track; White supports) There was a comment about hoping to get the new Boomerang trains Vekoma makes with the vest restraints. Great Escape responded with a zip up mouth emoji.
Could this be hints at getting a New vest restraint trains?

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is now testing a single rider line for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Apparently it skips several of the pre-shows including the rebel transport sequence, but it definitely has use for re-rides.

The single rider line has been altered so that now single riders no longer skip the pre-shows and instead get their own shuttle before they rejoin the single rider queue inside the Star Destroyer hangar.

Interesting, I wonder why the article makes it sound like it happened today.

I asked Ryan the ride mechanic, and he had this to say:

Q: Have you ever heard of a Vekoma Boomerang losing an entire wheel during the vertical loop? Apparently it happened on Speed of Sound in Walibi Holland today, with people reporting a burning smell. It's a newer retrofitted train with vest restraints and onboard audio.

A: the Tacoma trains have had problems in the past with guide wheels coming off because maintenance typically forget to put the cotter pin back inside as the safety and then the FOMOCO washer is able to come off that allows the nut to come off and then the wheel comes off. haven’t heard of the one you’re talking about though.

Voltron at Europa Park shut down Sunday afternoon after a bolt came loose and flew into a nearby pool. Eyewitnesses describe a loud ”bang” and the bolt plunging into the pool at a high speed.

According to queue-times.com the coaster went down for about two hours and then re-opened at 5:30 P.M. The cause of the detachment has yet to be investigated.

According to their website, Cedar Point is selling off 390 pieces of Maverick's heartline roll track which was removed before the coaster opened in 2007.
100 pieces have been signed by Intamin's Sandor Kernacs, who helped design the coaster. He is also the only person to ride the Maverick with the heartline roll in place. Sales will begin Oct. 12th at 1 p.m. in the Fast Lane sales booth at the park's Main Gate. An unsigned piece will cost $299 and a signed piece will be $349. Guests will be limited to buying one piece per person.

Kennywood is following in Cedar Point's footsteps and selling authentic track pieces from the park's three historic wooden roller coasters. Pieces of wood from Thunderbolt, Jack Rabbit, and Racer will be available for purchase during Phantom Fall Fest in the Arcade Gift Shop for $49.99 each.

Evening guys, I know this is a controversial one, but there are still some of us who enjoy the National and hold it in high regard. Anyway its down for the foreseeable future due to the lift hill chain snapping, rumours suggesting it's caused some damage to the structure beneath the affected area are online so I presume its down for the season, but BPB can work miracles when it comes to getting rides open so who knows.

Hi,

Was at the Pleasure Beach today, North lift chain is back in place awaiting new links to complete the circuit, structural work is also ongoing (nothing looks major). I imagine it’ll be back open in a few days time.

Bobbejaanland has launched a survey for a possible operating period during the winter months. The survey details various entertainment concepts such as ice skating rinks, drone shows, christmas parades, dressing the park’s various themed lands in winter decor, etc.. This move would put Bobbejaanland more in line with its many competitors (Walibi, Bellewaerde, Plopsa, Efteling, etc.), but the park’s technical director states that the logistics of opening the park late in the year (mainly maintenance and staffing) will need to be addressed before plans are officially drawn up. Currently, the park only employs about 50 year-round personnel, with most of its 400+ workforce during the operating season being temporary hires.
