Small News From The Theme Park Industry

KMG has been made Bankrupt with no sign of returning at the moment, very sad
The international firm has been bankrupted following an $80 million lawsuit regarding the Ohio state fair accident in 2017 involving one of their Afterburners.

The other firms and the "main" company itself are not affected as far as we know. This definitely might affect non-European KMG attractions.

I might be misremembering, but wasn't that accident a result of lack of inspection for structural weaknesses? If so, why is KMG getting sued?

Union workers at Hersheypark have rejected another round of contract offers from park management and have apparently voted to authorize a worker’s strike, but when or if that’ll occur seems to still be up in the air.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Local 464 workers' union rejected a contract proposal from Hershey Entertainment & Resorts for the fourth time, as negotiations continue even with Hersheypark's season underway.

A Hersheypark spokesperson said Monday they had reached a tentative agreement with the union, but the union ultimately voted to reject that offer on Wednesday.

"The union membership across Hersheypark, GIANT Center, and Hotel Hershey overwhelmingly voted down the latest contract offer — the fourth time we have rejected a proposal," one union member, who wished to remain anonymous, said.

The union also voted to authorize a workers strike, the union member said.

"We now have the power to strike and we are prepared to use it," they said.

Hershey Entertainment & Resorts said it was disappointed by the rejection but respects the outcome of the vote and collective bargaining process.

"We remain committed to the bargaining process and to continuing discussions with Local 464," the statement read.

Hershey said official federal labor mediator worked with the two parties to determine the tentative agreements, and the park says they were unanimously recommended for ratification by the union's bargaining committee.

The concerns the union hopes to address in contract negotiations include wages, health care costs and retirement benefits.

When asked about the strike authorization, a spokesperson for Hershey Entertainment & Resorts said it cannot confirm internal union processes.

However, the spokesperson stated the company has not been made aware by the union of any plans for a "work stoppage" and that "operations continue normally."

Parque de Atracciones de Zaragoza will not open to the public this year due to ongoing financial difficulties with the park’s parent company, which is currently involved in insolvency proceedings. The park was open for private events throughout the spring, but a public opening this month was abandoned after the owners failed to reach a deal with an Argentine operator to help run the park. The city of Zaragoza hopes that a new operating structure could be formed in time for a reopening next year, but all employees are on leave and the park as a whole is in limbo as of now.

Parque de Atracciones de Zaragoza looked pretty rough when I visited last year. I bailed on that dark ride (Cueva del Horror) as it only had one working car. The rate at which queue jumpers entered the queue ahead of me was higher than the ride throughput.
