This has been brought up a lot with the whole Mack Xtreme Spinner replacing Kingda Ka saga - there has been extensive discussion and a notably large amount of people concerned that it won't live up to the legacy of Kingda Ka and that it won't be a "worthy" replacement.
How often exactly has a replacement failed to live up to the original, and are there any examples where there is a general and agreed-upon consensus that "the original ride here was better"?
I can only think of when Rameses Revenge was replaced with Croc Drop - I got very, very upset over this!
There is also when Apocalypse was replaced by Gold Rush. This one is difficult for me though because Apocalypse was my all-time favourite drop tower, and Gold Rush is just 'alright' at best, but while Gold Rush is an infinitely better fit for the park from a business & lineup standpoint the ride simply doesn't do anything for me.
Any others?
