Sweden - Gröna Lund & Liseberg (Liseberg posted)

I'm really late with this. I've visited Sweden in May, and I never really got around to making a trip report, but now afterwards I regret it, because they were really two of the best park visits I've ever had, so I decided to do it anyway. Better late than never! Sadly I was enjoying myself too much to take many pictures, so don't expect tons of high quality ones  .

So I went to Sweden for 3 weeks to visit my friend Emelie there, and in the meantime we planned to visit the two main parks. Gröna Lund on a Saturday and Liseberg on a Thursday and Friday 2 weeks later. So first up was Gröna Lund and Stockholm. I didn't really have high expectations of the park because I was told it wasn't anything special, and also because it lacks theming, and none of the rides looked very impressive. On top of that it's really tiny with very little green (so the "Gröna" in the name is kind of ironic :p ). We arrived in Stockholm Central Station early in the morning, and went for a walk around Stockholm, towards the park. The weather was really ****. Rain, cold, and the sky was completely gray. A real shame, because Stockholm is absolutely stunning. Huge lakes in the centre of the city with beautiful buildings all around it. I just think it would've been much nicer to be there on a beautiful day, more so than most other cities. After a bit of a walk, I asked Emelie if we were close to the park. She smiled and pointed towards the other side of the lake, where I could suddenly see Eclipse, and then with a closer look I could also see Insane, Jetline and the two drop towers.

So then after some more walking we finally arrived. We made a mistake though in the planning. We thought the park would open at 10:00 until 23:00, but it was 11:00 till 22:00, so we had to wait for an hour there, in the rain and cold. We were completely soaked, hungry and really had to pee. A park day couldn't start any worse! We found some shelter and after a while the park finally opened. First up was Lustiga Huset, which is the park's excellent fun house. It was lengthy and had some really good effects. My enjoyment was slightly diminished by the fact that I was feeling so bad though. 8/10.

After it was done I went to eat something, the rain stopped, and we went to the toilet. Feeling much better afterwards, we went to the first cred of the day, Vilda Musen. Pretty awesome that they played POV videos of coasters in the queue line. It had Kingda Ka, Voyage, Millennium Force and some more that I can't remember. After the longest wait of the day (probably about 20 minutes), it was our turn. I usually don't like Wild Mice because of the painful turns that aren't actually that much fun at all, but thank god, this ride was much more than that. It had some really good drops, some airtime, great twisty banked turns, and was just a really enjoyable coaster in general. Turns didn't hurt. It was a bit short and not something that blew my mind, but it was good fun. Great interaction with Jetline, Twister and Katapulten (the S&S combo tower). 7/10.

I immediately noticed how nice the atmosphere of this park actually is. There's just a certain charm to it that I can't explain. I love big, more relaxing parks like Europa Park and Efteling, but I just really enjoyed the fact that everything was so close to each other, with so much going on all around you. Every ride has great interaction and it just has this really unique feel to it, for me at least. On top of that, I had never visited a seaside park before, and it really added to the experience. The location of the park is also the best I've ever seen, in the heart of Stockholm. I also have to mention that the staff is amazing! It was interesting that unlike Dutch and German parks, the far majority were actually female, and most of them were gorgeous. The staff were also incredibly friendly, efficient, hardworking and just gave the place an even nicer atmosphere.

Next up was Kvasten, and just like all other coasters in Gröna Lund, I had low expectations. It's the only coaster in the park that has been themed properly, which was a nice touch. We went on the front row for the first ride, which was a 0 minute wait. The seats are super comfortable and the fact that it has lap bars gives you a lot of freedom as well. The ride itself was actually really fun. A fantastic coaster for families, with a little bit of positive G around some parts and great foot choppers. Especially during the first drop that pretty much goes through Twister, and during the station breakthrough. It was probably the smoothest Vekoma I've ever ridden. I really want to ride Orkanen now, since that looks even better. It's needless to say that this coaster also had great interaction. I have a huge soft spot for good family coasters and this definitely is one. 7,5/10. After riding it we bought some fries. Annoyingly it started raining again and there were very limited places to eat indoors, but we found a tall table underneath Eclipse where we could eat in peace.

Kvasten was in the horror themed part of the park, so right next to it is the park's ghost train, Blå Tåget. I didn't really know what to expect, but it was awesome! It had some nice jump scares and hilarious animatronics. The cars had the same kind of 'seat effects' as Fluch Der Kassandra in Europa Park, which made a lot of people scream. It was great fun. 8/10.

10408758_388069574677216_8772087025915264526_n.jpg

Then we came across two little flat rides right next to the lake. The octopus was built on top of a pier, and the flying carpet ride was right next to it. The latter was quite forceful, which I didn't expect. I'm very skinny, so any ride with shared lap bars usually ends up with me having to hold on for dear life. It was fun though. It was called Flygande Mattan, which I'm guessing is Swedish for Flying Carpet, because it actually sounds similar to Dutch :p . The octopus ride was fun too.

The next cred was Twister. A small Gravity Group wooden coaster that I didn't know much about, nor did I expect it to be anything special. It looked alright off ride. We joined the non-existent queue, and went for the back seat. I found the trains extremely ugly at first, but they were comfortable. Not as much as GCI's Millennium Flyers, but still nice. The lift hill has a good head chopper. So after we reached the top we anticipated the tiny yet steep drop. It was fantastic! It took me off guard and has more airtime than pretty much any other first drop I've been on. It immediately goes over a great airtime hill, which also had ejector airtime. The entire ride is just tight turns with ejector all over the place. I was amazed. It went on for much longer than I expected, and was full of insane head choppers too. When we hit the brakes, I was speechless, and Emelie, who had lower expectations than I had, really liked it too. 9/10.

d4hj6948g009pakd35f14o.jpg

Sadly I couldn't find any decent Twister pic so here's one from RCDB.

Next to Twister is a beautiful blue Schwarzkopf classic, so that had to be done next. Jetline was my most anticipated coaster of the park, but I still had relatively low expectations. After another walk on we went for the backseat again. I like the twisting lift hill, and how the first drop really makes it feel like you accelerate because of its non-steepness (what's the opposite of "steepness" on coasters? :p ). The drop ended up going through an awesome tunnel. After the first MCBR, our favourite part came up. A really steep twisting drop which is followed up by an almost vertical helix into another MCBR. It pulled some massive Gs! The rest of the ride were some nice helices and a tunnel which was strangely warm, which is very welcome on such a cold day. The two things that make this ride truly special is the location and the interaction. The fact that it is very smooth with a high fun factor made it one of the most re-ridable coasters in the park. 8,5/10.

We are both really scared of heights, so we were dreading to ride the drop towers and Eclipse. We decided to 'warm up' by going on Katapulten first. I'd ridden a normal S&S shot & drop tower (without the freefall drop) before and enjoyed it, but found it relaxing rather than thrilling. The only proper freefall drop ride I had ridden was Mystery Castle, which isn't much of a forceful drop and also in the dark, so this was a first time experience for me. We went on the side that overviews the lake and downtown Stockholm, which ended up being a good choice. As we were launched upwards, we were presented with one of the most incredible views you can get. It was surreal. After the 'drop', we went up slowly again, so that we could get more time to enjoy the view. Emelie pointed out the big buildings and showed me around Stockholm those 20 seconds, and then we dropped properly. I didn't expect the drop to be this forceful! It looks slow on POVs/off ride, but was actually more powerful than the Intamin drop tower in Holiday Park that I rode 2 months after. It doesn't beat the Fabbri drop tower in power, but it wasn't far off. It's my second favourite drop tower (Mystery Castle <3), and one of my favourite flats in general, especially because of the view. 8,5/10

10294312_388069571343883_5246332026414897112_n.jpg

We loved it so much that we immediately re-rode. While Emelie really liked the ride, she didn't like the free-falling sensation, so she decided that she wouldn't ride Frittfall, the big Intamin tower. It might have been because of the cold, but I wasn't the bravest I've been that day. 2 months later I went on the drop tower and star flyer in Holiday Park without problems so I don't know what was up, but I didn't feel like riding Eclipse and Frittfall alone. I really regret this decision afterwards.

I always ride chair swings at parks (it's like a collection that I have :p ) so I had to ride this one too, especially because it just looks so fab on a pier on the lake. Emelie doesn't like them so she sat it out.

We went to Insane but the lady said it was closed all day. It's a shame we missed out on a cred, but to be honest, we weren't looking forward to it anyway. So that was just Intamin being Intamin. We did the funhouse again which I enjoyed more this time because I was feeling much better. Though it was still so cold that I was constantly shaking.

Next up was the kiddie area, where we rode Nyckelpigan. It was a nice little kiddie coaster, but it remains a kiddie cred. We bought the onride pic just because we could. 4/10. We also rode the family drop towers which gets to my stomach more than the big ones strangely. We missed the Tuff Tuff Tåget cred because we completely forgot about it. We didn't come across it either, so it must've been pretty well hidden. While walking back to the main park, Emelie played one of the carnival games, while I was being stunned by how pretty the staff member of that game was <3 Every one of them also spoke perfect English, and they all seemed interested in your opinion on the rides. They also had a genuine smile on their faces all the time, and enthusiastically greeted you when you entered the station. I've never visited a Disney park yet, but it will be pretty hard to top the friendliness of this park's staff.

It was around 13:30 by then and we had already done pretty much the entire park, but were far from bored. We decided to take a little break, so we just sat on a bench next to Frittfall, Eclipse and Kvasten. Then we continued to re-ride everything. I'm not going to go into detail as much for the next part of the report. But we re-rode all of the coasters (front & back row) and did some of the smaller flats. Pop Expressen is the park's breakdance. It is very well decorated with a disco ball, and played some of today's biggest hits. The ride program on this thing is amazing! It was really long, fast, and crazy. It was my first, but also definitely the best breakdance, and one of the better flats I've done in general. Every breakdance I've done after this one, just disappointed me. 8/10.

Another ride that we hadn't ridden yet was the love tunnel thing, which was a really cute boat ride. It was well themed and nice, but strange how there was glass around all the sets. That kind of took away the immersiveness. Close to that was the bumper car ride. We ended up re-riding that more than 10 times probably. It was so fun and we had a great laugh. By the time we were done with the bumper cars, it was getting dark so we re-rode all the coasters again. To end our day in the park we just went from Jetline, to Twister, and back, with a total of 7 rides for both. All the coasters were even more awesome at night, with lights everywhere <3 It was almost magical. The views were stunning!

At 22:00 we left the park, and took the ferry to the other side of the lake. It really felt like a goodbye to see the park, which was all lit up and gorgeous, just getting further and further away from us. We had a walk through the oldest parts of Stockholm, and went back to the station. Stockholm at night is just wonderful, and it felt extremely safe.

So despite the circumstances, I had an incredible day. To say that my expectations were blown away is an understatement. The combination of a fantastic park, short to non-existent queues, wonderful company and just the sheer length of it really made this one of the most memorable days of my life. The fact that I still know it in so much detail after almost 6 months kind of proves my point. The park has a unique and lovely atmosphere, a LOT of charm, some of the best and friendliest staff around, a ton of great re-ridable rides and a picturesque location. It is hard to explain what makes this park so amazing, but this report is really the closest I can get. I fell in love with both Gröna Lund and Stockholm, and I'm honestly craving to get back. Especially to ride Eclipse, Frittfall, Insane and Tuff Tuff Tåget, but also to get re-rides on Twister, Katapulten and Jetline. Preferably with much nicer weather too. It was a day full of new experiences, excitement and so much fun and laughter.

Park score: 9/10

Thanks for reading my report! :--D Liseberg is next!

Great report so far! I agree with your opinions on Grona Lund, Bla Taget is brilliant!

Re: Sweden - Gröna Lund & Liseberg (Gröna Lund posted)

Thanks for the reply :) . And yeah, it's a fab little ride!

Re: Sweden - Gröna Lund & Liseberg (Gröna Lund posted)

They usually keep Insane closed on rainy days, not sure if it has anything to do with the manufacturer, or just the characteristics of the ride.

You should totally visit during a nice warm summer day, it can be a bit "depressing" during rainy days, so I'm sure you will love it even more.

Re: Sweden - Gröna Lund & Liseberg (Gröna Lund posted)

Grona Lund is a great park. It has a very good selection of rides (obviously apart from in the water ride department) and a good atmosphere. The park was very quiet when I went in May last year, so it is obviously a good time to go.

Agree with you mostly, apart from I thought Kvasten was very dull. Orkanen is better, simply because it has some interesting bits.

Twister<3 :--D

Shame you missed out on Insane, although it is a controversial coaster.

Looking forward to Liseberg.

It did stop raining once we wanted to get on. To be honest, it only rained properly in the morning and for about an hour while we had lunch, for most of the day it was just cold and gray. We did see them test the ride in the morning before we entered the park, and the trains constantly stopped in the MCBR, so maybe there were technical problems.

I'm definitely going to visit Sweden (and Stockholm) again! It's an amazing country. I might take a detour around Stockholm next year summer, because I'm going to be visiting Finland. Any experience with getting to Helsinki from Stockholm with a boat?

CookieCoasters said:

It probably is. It also helped that it was the evening of the Eurovision finals, which is very popular in Sweden. I personally don't really care much for it, so it was perfect :p .

I just really have a thing for family coasters. I absolutely adore Pegasus in Europa Park too. But I can see that it is probably boring/dull for someone who's ridden quite a few more coasters than I have. And I don't doubt Orkanen's superiority for a second!

Yes absolutely, it is awesome with boat! It's been popular here in Sweden since the 60s, and you could say it's like a "mini-cruise". It's not just transportation like the boats between France-England, or Germany-Sweden etc.., it's nice dining, lot's of bars etc.. It's very popular weekend getaway.

I recommend the Helsinki-Sockholm line (although the Åbo-Stockholm line is also nice). Make absolutely sure that you go with the Silja Line brand (It's either the ship Silja Symphony or Silja Serenade). On the Helsinki route they are miles ahed of the Viking Line boats (You'll notice why).

Re: Sweden - Gröna Lund & Liseberg (Gröna Lund posted)

Are you banging Emelie or has she friend zoned you?

Grona Lund I found really dull. It's full of crap rides, except the fabulous Twister! Which is one of the best woodies in Europe.

Looking forward to your Liseberg report, THAT is a seriously good park. Helix and Balder <3

Option 3, I genuinely only feel for her as a friend.

Shame you didn't like Gröna Lund, but I could see why some aren't as much of a fan of the park as I am.

Re: Sweden - Gröna Lund & Liseberg (Gröna Lund posted)

Almost two weeks after that amazing day in Stockholm, we travelled to the other side of the Swedish coast. To Göteborg, home to the biggest amusement park in Sweden, Liseberg (pronounced Lisaberry in Swedish :p ). It was a long but very scenic train ride through a gorgeous country. Lots of green, lovely little villages and huge lakes.

10527273_388069934677180_4486029120245174762_n.jpg

So after about 3,5 hours, we arrived in a very crowded Göteborg. It was a nice city but not nearly as impressive as Stockholm. We took the bus and went to Emelie's cousin's place, where we would stay for the time we were in Göteborg. After playing some PS3 games there, we called it a day. The next morning we didn't have to wake up early, since the park opened at 15:00. After walking around for a bit downtown, we took the bus to the park. An awesome moment was when we suddenly saw Atmosfear and the Ferris wheel in the distance. Since the park is built on a hillside, it is visible from pretty far away. We arrived at the park at 14:00, so we waited for an hour again before we could enter the park.

I don't remember the days in Liseberg in as much detail as Gröna Lund. Probably because it was divided over two days and because Liseberg is just a bigger park with more rides. But I'll do my best to be as accurate is possible. My first impressions were very good. It is a beautiful park full of green. Helix's inverted top hat is placed absolutely brilliantly! It looked really high and impressive from the main road. Kanonen looked smaller, but Balder looked much bigger than expected. The weather for both days was very nice too. A lot of sun and not a single drop of rain. Needless to say, we were extremely excited!

Like in Gröna Lund, we started the day by finding a toilet. After that we walked towards the first cred of the day, another Schwarzkopf classic called Lisebergbanan. I don't have much experience with terrain coasters. The only one I've done is Black Mamba, and this obviously is a sit-down instead of an invert. After a 10 minute wait (which is the longest we had for both days, Helix excluded), we got on the front. It was an unique experience! It has a fantastic sense of speed, great interaction with Helix, the flume, the drop towers and the screaming swings, and some parts were actually quite forceful! It doesn't do a whole lot in terms of elements, but the beautiful surroundings, the unique hillside location, the smoothness and forces made this ride a LOT of fun. I'd say it's pretty much on par with its bro in Gröna Lund. If I had to choose, I'd even say it's slightly better. It's more unique than Jetline but is a bit less intense. 8,5.

10658878_388070784677095_7883660141562081005_o.jpg

Helix <3 *drool*

So after riding a fantastic coaster, why not go for another world class coaster? We were a bit worried about Balder. When we walked towards the super compact yet awesome looking woodie, it was awfully quiet. One of the screens near the entrance mentioned all the ride opening times, but Balder wasn't on there. Could it be? Spited by Intamin again? But then we heard the awesome Intamin pre-fab fart sound <3. We knew things would be alright, so we joined the (0 min) queue for the front seat. It is pretty hard to keep your expectations low for such a widely praised coaster, but I did manage to keep it on a reasonable level, and I'm glad I did. It certainly met my expectations, but didn't blow them away. It's an incredible coaster. The first drop is nothing short of amazing. After that, it has like 9 (?) spots of ejector airtime, which is the most of any ride I've ridden. It is not the smoothest woodie I've done, but still up there. I do have some criticism though. The turns literally do nothing. They were so slow that I kind of got sideways hang time. The pops of airtime were fun, but so short that there was very little time to actually enjoy it. It was a bit soulless. It's hard to explain, but I just didn't really get an emotional attachment to it. On top of that, It was quite predictable and lacks the out-of-control sensation that I love woodies for. I mean, what's the point of it being wood? If it was a steel coaster, it would've done the job just as well, if not better. Goliath and EGF for example, have less hills but more sustained airtime and were better overall in my opinion. Despite all this, it's a great coaster and very re-ridable. I slightly prefer Twister because it just had a bit more of a personality and fun-factor, but it's very close. 9/10. We immediately re-rode the back seat but aside from the (now even more amazing) first drop, I preferred the front. The forces on the hills were just all over the place in the back, and it felt unnatural and weird.

10447632_388070871343753_3326751335091100212_n.jpg

I have to mention that the operations in Liseberg are fantastic. Balder ran two trains during both days despite being a walk on. Lisebergbanan even ran about 4 trains. They also worked really hard to dispatch the trains as fast as possible. It's not as good as Europa Park, but it isn't far off.

Right next to Balder was another Intamin coaster. An accelerator to be exact, called Kanonen. The expectations were the opposite of Balder. I've heard it is vile, ****, painful and lame. After another walk on we once again went for the front seat. I love the heartbeat sound effects just before the launch! The launch was actually pretty solid. I've experienced very few launches, the best one being on Blue Fire, so I can still appreciate the less forceful launches. I've never done a top hat either, so it was pretty cool for me, despite being slow and small. After the top hat there was a really good twist with airtime. Then a loop, some nice twisty turns, and a heartline roll with pretty uncomfortable hang time. Overall it's a solid little coaster. I'm guessing the pain complaints are from the old restraints? Because they were pretty soft, and the ride itself is smooth. It's compact, short but sweet, and probably a nice launched coaster for a small to medium park. I'm not really getting the hate for it. Sure, it isn't great, but it's definitely not a "bad" ride. It doesn't compare to the other Liseberg coasters though. I wouldn't be sad if they'd remove it, as long as they would replace it with something better. 7/10..

10360205_388070848010422_6935908914118427613_n.jpg

After a re-ride on the back seat of Lisebergbanan, which wasn't as good as the front but still awesome, we went up the fab escalators towards the most anticipated coaster of the park. I had been following the construction of Helix ever since I became an enthusiast (which admittedly isn't very long, about 2 years now). It always looked like a coaster that combines everything that makes coasters awesome in one lengthy ride. I loved Blue Fire, especially for its ultra comfy trains, so this would really be my dream coaster, wouldn't it? I secretly knew that the chance of Helix disappointing was extremely high. The queue-time was 20 minutes, and I don't think we waited any longer than that in any of our 10 rides on it over the two days. The queue area is very atmospheric, with awesome music. It really pumped me up and set the mood perfectly. We were ready for another front row ride. I was actually getting slightly nervous, something that doesn't happen very often anymore. The view on the front row out of the station is breathtaking. Off we went!

10658636_388070818010425_7943212661751085767_o.jpg

The first drop is not very noticeable in the front, but awesome in the back. How many rides have airtime in the station? :p The corkscrew is similar to the ones found on Blue Fire. Very fun with these restraints. After a pretty forceful turn we hit the first launch. I'd heard about the launches not being forceful at all. Glad I did, because they do indeed disappoint a bit. It's probably Helix's biggest flaw. They are still fun and noticeable, but you just don't get a kick from it. But since this isn't a launched coaster, and the launches are just a more enjoyable equivalent of lift hills, it really isn't a problem. Another fun and pretty snappy corkscrew follows. Then a twisty floater airtime hill which had an awesome view over Göteborg. What follows is probably the most intense part of the ride. The Norwegian loop/pretzel loop (Which is the correct one? Because I've heard both being mentioned). It had just the right amount of positive G to be intense, but not too much to hurt the re-ridability. Next up is possibly my favourite part of the ride. It starts with an incredible airtime hill, which can easily compare to Intamin's airtime machines. Fantastic sustained ejector. Immediately after that is an awesome fast zero-G roll (which is possibly my favourite type of inversion) and then a fast snappy turn to the left. It is kind of similar to Blue Fire's turn after the loop, but even better. A helix followed which led to the lowest point of the ride and also had some good positive Gs. The second launch is slightly better than the first. Next element was the amazing inverted top hat which had perfect floater. The airtime hill that followed is probably the best airtime hill I've ever experienced. This thanks to the combination of how sustained and strong it is, and the view. The s-bends after the hill don't do much, and the heartline roll starts out nearly as good as Blue Fire's, but slowed down towards the end. Still very good though and a perfect ending to our new favourite coaster.

I love lengthy coasters, and this coaster feels like two Mack mega coasters put together. It has so many elements, perfect pacing, great intensity/re-ridability ratio, great inversions, fantastic airtime hills, and to top this all off, it had a similar terrain-hugging layout as Lisebergbanan. Helix is so long, that it almost feels like a journey. A journey through half of Liseberg. It seems to be everywhere in the park. It doesn't matter where you walk, anywhere you'll see a train going through one of the many elements. It is not only a joy to ride, but also to watch. It is smooth and has plenty of interaction (Sweden is really good at that :) ) as well, which I always love. I honestly can't think of any other coaster I've ridden that is so close to perfection and with so much variety. I can't imagine Liseberg without this beauty of a coaster. The flaws? The launches could be more forceful, there isn't much theming, the s-turns could be a bit snappier and the last heartline roll isn't as amazing as Blue Fire's. An obvious 10/10.

We ate something in the Burger King in the same building as Helix and Atmosfear. It had a great view over Helix, so it was our place to eat for both of the days.

After that we went for a walk around the hillside. We rode the shot & drop tower called Uppskjutet. After riding the amazing Katapulten two weeks earlier, this one was quite underwhelming. The view was absolutely great! Obviously not as good as Stockholm though. The tower did feel pretty dated. It kind of rattled and the drop was braked like ****. If it wasn't for the view, it would easily be my least favourite shot/drop tower. 6/10. Also on the hillside was Virvelvinden. Emelie doesn't like spinny stuff, so I went on alone. It was pretty crap. It was slow, didn't really spin much and like the shot & drop tower it felt really dated. It was like it could fall apart at any moment. I didn't make a picture so I took these pics from Wikipedia:

Moving down the hill again, we came across Hanghai, the park's Disk'o. It was a first for me and it was pretty enjoyable. Especially the first time it feels like you're about to crash off the track. Then we joined the small queue for the Flume Ride, which is a terrain log flume. The first part is mainly going up the hill without much happening. We were lucky enough to have Lisebergbanan going over its airtime hill just while we were going underneath it. It kind of had a head chopper effect! The second part is two big drops down the hill in rapid succession. It was actually a really nice flume. I'd say probably my second favourite behind Chiapas, which is by far my favourite. 7,5/10. After that I rode the chair swing which wasn't anything special, and we had a couple of goes on the bumper cars (we love them :--D ).

Liseberg has a very strong water ride collection. Besides the awesome log flume, they also have an excellent river rapids ride called Kållerado. It starts out relatively slow and calm, but it gets quite wet, has plenty of elements and the water bombs at the end are suspenseful and just a nice touch overall. I think our boat was full of foreigners too so that's always cool when visiting a park in a different country. 7,5/10. After that we went for another go on Balder and Kanonen.

Like Gröna Lund, there was a separate kiddie area. I prefer this one though. There were plenty of really unique and quirky rides. Also some rides for families, like the cycling monorail with a nicely themed station building. The main reason of going here was for the +2 though. Two kiddie coasters hidden in here. First up was Rabalder. It was a Zierer Force Two. Not bad for a kiddie coaster. As usual you get two laps. 4/10. The other cred was Stampbanan, which is literally the smallest coaster I've ever been on. It was cute, but even for a kiddie coaster, the layout was just boring. It was smooth and the train was nicely themed though. Perfect for the smallest kids. 3,5/10. There is only one dark ride in Liseberg called Fairy Tale Castle. We wanted to ride it mainly because we knew it had Droomvlucht's music. Efteling is my home park and Emelie's favourite park, so hearing it here would be strange. However, for some reason there was no music playing at all. The ride is outdated and boring. Probably the worst dark ride I've done so far. 5/10.

We had pretty much done all the main rides so we went back for re-rides on Lisebergbanan and Helix. The rest of the day and the second day consisted of basically re-riding all the good rides, riding some of the remaining rides (Ferris wheel, etc.) and just chilling and walking around in the park, so I'm not going to go in detail too much. I have to give a mention to the four night rides we had on Helix. Amazing... Some of the best rides I've had on a coaster. Göteborg all lit up is really beautiful, and the coaster itself had really fab lights and had relentless pacing. Especially the last airtime hill was just out of this world at night. The entire park looked really pretty at night, though Efteling is still my favourite night park.

I had two amazing days. Liseberg is a wonderful park <3 While it's definitely a unique park, it does feel more like a normal amusement/theme park than Gröna Lund, which can be both a good and a bad thing. It has a lovely atmosphere and setting, though I slightly preferred Gröna Lund's. In terms of rides however, it's very hard to beat Liseberg. A very strong coaster and water ride selection! I hadn't ridden Atmosfear, Uppswinget and Spin Rock, but I'm guessing they have a very solid flat selection too. The park is very green and beautiful, and once you enter the gates you forget that you're in the middle of Sweden's second biggest city. On top of that, it has excellent operations. It's very hard for me to choose between Gröna Lund and Liseberg, but I'm giving a slight edge to Liseberg. If Helix didn't exist, I would give the edge to Stockholm's park though. It was wonderful to experience very different parks than what I'm used to here in the Netherlands and in neighbour country Germany.

Park score: 9/10.

Thanks for reading my report!

Great report!

I pretty much share the same views with you on everything. Liseberg is such a wonderful park with a great ride lineup. It also seems that Helix is loved by everyone. It's probably the best steel coaster in the world if you break it down by what it offers; Amazing at night too. I'd be shocked if it didn't make the number 1 spot in the next Mitch Hawker poll.

Again, great report, I really enjoyed reading it.

^ Thanks :--D

I wouldn't count on it. Robb Alvey hates it, he has banned me for saying it's Liseberg's star attraction (rather than Balder). And he has a **** load of influence on the poll. None of his followers is going to vote for it most likely. But I do have to agree that it's widely loved and praised, and it even won the tournament on here too. For Liseberg it has been a massive success too. I'm happy that a coaster made for enthusiasts rather than to draw in the big crowds (families) actually paid off so well.

Sheesh Darren for all you know, I might have been the one who was friend zoned. :p

Seriously though, Thom, We had some fantastic days there, great report man. I'm glad you have better memory than I do
Can't wait to visit more new parks with yooouuu :D

Re: Sweden - Gröna Lund & Liseberg (Liseberg posted)

To be fair Owen, it's the ridiculous sheep following his opinion that are the issue.
If you're banned from somewhere for voicing your reasonable opinion then it must be a poor establishment in the first place and better off not being there.

If any of them have sense they'll rank it honestly, and if they do, it should be high up in the polls.
