I think you're right though. I think it's also that there was a massive shift at Lucasarts at that time. They completely changed their focus and the way they worked. You go from the company being one of the best gaming companies of the 90's to complete and utter tosh in a matter of just a couple of years.
It seems that they have gone for "what's easy" rather than "what's good". I suspect Lucas himself losing interest in everything other than Clone Wars bollocks hasn't helped either. They just became a churn out shop for franchise work rather than a software house that developed games that were inspired by the franchise/s.
It's a "we've got a massive universe of loved characters (yeah, right, if you think people love Star Wars characters now George after what you've done in the last few years), all we need to do is dump them into whatever game genre is currently fashionable and people will buy it regardless" attitude. Lazy, stupid and ultimately self-defeating attitude.
