I feel so strongly about this subject: Yes, Merlin should invest in a woodie as people's views have changed due to more parks investing in wooden coasters, give it a heartline roll, sidewinder, batwing or corkscrew (possible now), tunnels filled with dry ice (Fog), LED lights, lasers, splash down.
The best woodie in the UK is "Megafobia" but Oakwood can be remote for some people, this woodie gains 5 sec's a lap in the afternoons once it's warm'd up. "Megafobia"'s bigger, badder sister woodie "Rampage" at Splash Adventure (Bessemer, Alabama, USA) is SBNO & this would be perfect to ship over to Thorpe for a rebuild, give it new "Topper Track" & replace any supports, beams etc, this would be cheaper than buying a new coaster..
What type of woodie should Thorpe have:
Out n Back
Twister
Prefabricated Track
Hybrid (Steel Structure)
Double / Triple Out and Back
Cyclone
Dueling double, triple or even Quad, have all the tracks in-twine each other above & below to make it a more exciting ride.
Wild Mouse
S&S (They don't do wooden coasters anymore, but if you waved enough cash at them, i'm sure they would be happy to do 1 more design)
If I won Euro millions I'll pay outright for a woodie to be built at Thorpe, AT and Paultons Park as England is very lacking in wooden coasters, the ones at BPB are fun, but times have changed & the designs can be amazing like "Troy" at Toverland.
If Thorpe Park say they are an extreme park, they should build a bigger, more airtime hills & higher version of Avalanche / HellCat at Timber Falls Adventure Park (Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, USA), this coaster has no brakes anywhere apart from the brake run & is so quick around it's course. Perfect :--D :--D
