Top 10(ish): 2024 Edition - page 124

Not quite sure what you're thinking currently. You've still got some... choices in your present Top 10.
I'll attempt to tackle the points that are questioned the most when I reveal my rankings:

-I understand that Olympia's prime was four years ago in 2017 now but I still found it to be an excellent ride in 2021
-OzIris would be higher (or lower...?) if I had better memory of its experience. It often jumps around my list
-While I won't deny Saw's occasional rattle, the last time I experienced it on a bad day was in 2020 so I've been pretty lucky with it recently
-Cannonball Express is the raw definition of pure FUN
-Whilst Oblivion only has one element, that element is pulled off absolutely perfectly
-Nemesis isn't there because I didn't ride it in the right mindset

@Snoo Hyperion gets a weird amount of disrespect, it is insane. That first airtime hill is possibly the best in the world. Agree on Zadra, very good but not quite enough airtime.

1. Steel Vengeance
2. Skyrush
3. Untamed
4. Taron
5. Time Traveller
6. Phoenix
7. Twisted Colossus
8. Magnum XL200
9. Karnan
10. Lightning Rod

...

11. Hyperion
12. Zadra
13. Phantoms Revenge
14. Storm Chaser
15. Ride To Happiness
16. The Voyage

17. Expedition GeForce
18. Helix
19. Mako
20. El Toro
I'm thinking some overshadow by an RMC as well as rattle on the latter half of the train (didn't bother me but did others) can certainly hurt it. That said, you do have Magnum AND Karnan in your Top 10. We can't be friends.. :p

  6. Afterburn (Carowinds)

Hyperion was P-H-E-N-O-M-E-N-A-L. I don't know what they did or changed but this ride is THE sleeper of Europe. This is what airtime should be in it's purest form.. probably the best continually on any coaster I've been on. The rides above it just over a bit more as it's not long. Still.. LOVED It.

Zadra is amazing as well, with a layout full of everything you could want short of my favorite thing.. airtime. It lacked it which hurt it when comparing it to the monster that is Hyperion. That said.. night rides are insanity and it hits ALL over.. all day.

Fønix happened to be 500 but was an ENORMOUS surprise to me. I had to ride it last at Farup to make it 500 which made the anticipation grow. That ride does not spare an element and hits you over and over and over. Nothing disappoints or is wasted in it's layout. Fell in complete love after ride one and ride 10.

Piraten also a fantastic airtime machine, one of those bucket list rides I wanted to get on forever. What a fantastic ride, just a bit short and missing in some spots.

Other then that, two enormous disappoints were Untamed, Colossos, and Helix. All underdelivered by miles.

Well, I ALSO went to Florida.. and rode the Gwussy.. and it blew me away. Absolutely loved it. Rode front and back and it hit like no ones business.

Most anticipated rides: Montu, El Toro, X²

I almost missed Fury325 and Afterburn as they were closed the day I planned to go. Fortunately got a ride in on each the night before.

1. Steel Vengeance, Cedar Point
2. Taron, Phantasialand
3. Zadra, Energylandia
4 . Fury 325, Carowinds
5. Dinoconda, China Dinosaurs Park
6. Lightning Rod, Dollywood
7. Boulder Dash, Lake Compounce
8. Skyrush, Hersheypark
9. Voyage, Holiday World
10. Top Thrill Dragster, Cedar Point

11. Helix, Liseberg
12. X2, Six Flags Magic Mountain

17. Kondaa, Walibi Belgium
18. Storm Chaser, Kentucky Kingdom
19. Formula Rossa, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi
20. Ride To Happiness, Plopsaland de Panne

Knocked out are Hyperion and Nemesis, although I think the 11-20 slots will get a little rejig in the coming days. Ride to Happiness may not keep that slot after all.

Nothing too unique, all big hitters

1. OzIris
2. Ride to Happiness
3. Zadra
4. Behemoth
5. Nemesis
6. Twisted Colossus
7. Shambala
8. Millennium Force
9. Montu
10. Kondaa

Not having a dig - that's a very respectable top 10 that is, kudos to you, Sir... except... uhm... Oziris at number 1? What's that about? Literally every other coaster in that list stomps all over Oziris. Care to explain your reasoning? I can only assume you got married on it or something, cos that's just like bizarre. Like I said, not having a dig, just genuinely curious as to what makes Oziris so special for you? 🤔

out of 63 credits here are my top 20:
1: Steel Vengeance
2: Maverick
3: Millennium Force
4: Iron Gwazi

5: Goliath (Sfgam)

7: Valravn
8: SheiKra
9: Magnum Xl-200
10: Cheetah Hunt
11: Raptor (Cedar Point)

12: Maxx Force
13: Batman: The Ride (Sfgam)
14: Gatekeeper
15: Montu

16: X-Flight
17: Tigris
18: Viper (Sfgam)
19: Kumba
20: Cobra's Curse

5. Dinoconda, China Dinosaurs Park
15. Soaring with Dragon, Hefei Wanda Theme Park
Interesting! Do you consider Dinoconda to be better than the other 4D coasters? It seems rather similar to Eejanaika. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on how it differ from it's siblings! (having only been on X2 myself)

Also: interesting with Soaring with Dragon that high in your rankings. The layout looks rather uninspired. It's a coaster that really never have cought my attention (up until now).

So I've only ridden Dinconda and X2 - yet to make the trip for Eejanaika - but for me there was something a notch up in intensity from X2 with Dinoconda. It's quite hard to put my finger on exactly, but X2 felt almost like a slightly reigned back version on Dinoconda. In addition, the full zero-g that Dinoconda has is incredible as the seats are doing a full flip at the same time. Whilst the 'top down' layout is different, that's the only significant trackwork difference between the two, but it's next level. I genuinely dread (with almost uncontrollable excitement) how much further Eejanaika would push this, as I've heard that it runs even more intensely than Dinoconda (even though layout-wise I believe it's the same).

Objectively, they're both not very good really, but they earn a spot in the Top 20 for being so far off the 'crazy' spectrum it's unthinkable. They are genuinely terrifying, in a very good way, and complete sensory overload. As long as you overlook the horrendous operations, that is.
More detail on my thoughts here too:

So for me, there are a few things that push it up as a piece of hardware.
  • The launches really, really, punch. The final forwards launch is the weakest of the three, and I reckon is comparable to the launches on Helix (that ride is fresh in my mind after @Matt N's topic). The first forwards and backwards launches are wild. There's a true sense of raw power as the train is vibrating and roaring through each pass of the launch.
  • The non-inverting loop is probably the best one of its kind - especially in the back, where is had some amazing whip.
  • The next turnaround is decent, but not earth shattering.
  • The speed hill is great and a really well done change in pace from the massive elements preceding it.
  • I actually really enjoyed the weaving bit following the turnaround.
  • The trains were (/are) fantastically comfortable.
Then looking at it a bit more subjectively - I was basically just lapping the coaster as a nearly solo rider, it marked the furthest leg of a China trip where all my planning had worked out and everything was going smoothly and I was having a blast, and the rest of the park was a bit of a dump (except their big show), so it really, really stood out.
Again, some more thoughts here:

I think an additional coverall comment that applies to both of these comments, is that I'm also a big believer in ranking rides based on my 'all in' experience of riding them. Both Dinoconda and Soaring With Dragon were very memorable rides to me and they hold a big place in my heart, in that sense. First proper, solo, theme park trip through China and all of the additional adrenaline that brings with it, means they get to stay in the Top 20. I suppose I'm ranking ride experience along with ride hardware - that's partly why Lightning Rod and Boulder Dash remain so high on the list, even though I suspect they'd tumble now, because the overall memory I have of riding them is a Top 20 coaster experience - if you know what I mean?[/list]

5. Mystic Timbers
6. Maverick

10. Phantom's Revenge
11. Montu
12. Top Thrill Dragster (rest in pieces)
