What's new

Top 10(ish): 2024 Edition - page 124

I've hit a few major parks and gotten to ride or re-ride a bunch of top notch coasters since my last post so I guess it's about time to upate this. For sake of ease I've added a 0 coaster slot to allow for my nostalgia fueled ride I'll love no matter how good (or now bad as is the case) it may be. (new rides in bold, new rank based on re-rides in italics)

I suspect there's some rides in there that would fall in my rankings if I managed to re-ride them but I can only really go with my memories of how the ride was while I rode it while ranking.

I've still got 1 more trip in a couple of weeks before the year finishes, but I don't really think anything on it could change my T20 at the moment.

1. Zadra
2. Taron
3. Texas Stingray
4. Wildfire
5. Hakugei
6. Ride to Happiness
7. FLY
8. Flying Dinosaur
9. Mako
10. Untamed
11. Furius Baco
12. Iron Rattler
13. Shambhala
14. Balder
15. Wonder Woman (SFFT)
16. The Incredible Hulk
17. Eejanaika
18. Wodan Timbur Coaster
19. Hyperion
20. Jurassic World Velocicoaster

Texas Stingray was the biggest surprising addition for me this year. While I liked it after my first few rides, it wouldn't have placed anywhere near as high based on those earlier rides, but towards the end of the day, I don't know what they lubricated the track and wheels with, but it was running so fast, the pacing on the entire 2nd half was just so good.

New credits for this year are in bold and credits re-ridden this year are in italics.

1. Voyage
2. Steel Vengeance
3. Iron Gwazi

4. Maverick
5. Skyrush
6. Intimidator 305

I just finished my first international coaster trip! Phantasialand, Plopsaland, and Euro DL Resort. Currently sitting at 89 creds. Lots of traveling to come now that I’m finishing up college and have a bit of time and money to spare!

I’m a sucker for Phantasialand’s theming. It just makes the rides so much better!!

1. Taron
2. Skyrush
3. FLY
4. Twisted Colossus
5. Ride to Happiness
6. Ghost Rider
7. X2
8. Black Mamba
9. Candymonium
10. Space Mountain (Disneyland California)

My Top Ten hadn't changed at all since 2019 due to you-know-what, but finally I got to visit some new parks in Sweden, Ireland and the US and as a result my coaster rankings have seen a serious shake-up. My overall top ten is all Steel coasters so I'll do a separate one for the woodies. New creds from this year in bold.

Top 10
  1. Steel Vengeance
  2. Taron
  3. Wicked Cyclone
  4. Goliath (SFOG)
  5. Shambhala
  6. Millennium Force
  7. Nemesis

  6. Wild Mouse (BPB)
  7. Timber Terror
  8. The Beast
  9. Mystic Timbers
  10. Twister (Gröna Lund)

Dropping out of my overall Top Ten were Superman (SFNE), Mako, Storm Chaser (KK) and Icon. Wildfire was briefly in there until I went to the States 😆

Honourable mentions for this year are Monster (Grona Lund), Maverick, Banshee, Orion, Magnum XL-200 and Valkyria, all of which I enjoyed.
Dishonourable mention to Helix which was quite disappointing, though it's easily still a Top 50 cred for me.

Have some movement action with new rides! (And detailed in my recent trip report to BGT)

Takeaway details:
  • Lots of B&M Love from BGT - Montu has now taken top seat as favorite overall Invert, with a peppering of other new B&M rides.
  • Iron Gwazi Second Best RMC, Second Best Florida Coaster - Steel Vengeance retains #1, and VC remains my favorite overall Florida coaster.

Hey all! It's been a while since I've posted one of these here. My top 20's changed quite a bit since I last posted, so I hope I'm not too late to count toward the big sitewide ranking.

1: Voyage - Oh my goodness gracious. Over half a year later, the thought of it still brings tears to my eyes.
2: Iron Gwazi - Finally got on this one last month, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Incredible ride.
3: Intimidator 305 - My old #1, still going strong in the top 3. I305 is my ride or die.
4: Steel Vengeance - Yep. That sure is Steel Vengeance.
5: Skyrush - What a ride. I haven't been on it for a couple years now, but it left such an imprint on me that I'm 100% sure of where I rank it, even now.
6: Velocicoaster - Probably the most "good" ride in the world. Just pure fun.
7: Fury 325 - One of the best examples of coaster layouts as an art form.
8: Phantom's Revenge - The absolute shock of going over that station hill for the first time is still almost unparalleled.
9: Pantheon - The ride that's grown on me most during a park day. Morning rides had this below Raven, but evening laps elevated it very far.
10: El Toro - I so badly want to put this lower than I have it. There are so many things wrong with this ride, but the air is just so good.
11: Maverick - This must have been world-shattering in 2007. Any time I hear a railroad crossing sound effect I get transported to that second launch.
12: Phoenix - Beautifully preserved, and with all the air in the world.
13: Twisted Timbers - Some of the best pure air ever, and on some of the best rolling stock.
14: Storm Chaser - Violent in a way that Twisted Timbers isn't, but also feels segmented and less coherent.
15: Ravine Flyer II - Artful layout, and with the air to back it up. Need to get back here for sunset rides.
16: Flying Aces - Like a more elegant Skyrush. I love the roll at the end.
17: Jersey Devil Coaster - Janky and a little weird, but aren't we all. I love that station setup so much.
18: Raven - Second best coaster at Holiday world, with the best drop in the park. I will die on both of those hills.
19: Lightning Rod - I'd say something mean about this ride, but my placement is mean enough. Not a fan of the layout. Love the quad down, though.
20: Mako - Five seconds! I mean, five whole seconds! How the hell did they get it to do that?

I do enjoy writing little comments by my rankings. I've been on Discord a lot more recently, and you don't much get to do that with that platform's smaller and faster messages. Coming back to the forums, I remember why I stayed here so long in the first place. I can type as much as I want without risk of the conversation topic changing. I haven't been on here a lot as of late, but I think that'll change in the coming weeks. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy writing longer-form posts.

Wow, listen to me ramble. I'm starting to sound like some of the old farts on here. I've been reading up a bit on what I've missed here, and I'm glad to see that this place hasn't changed one bit while I was gone.

I should wrap this little editorial up. This is the rankings (!) thread after all. I'm proud of my 2022 final rankings, and here's to a great 2023!

I got a few rides in and I think sliding it right underneath Wildfire is the right move for now. Gwazi is probably the better ride, but I had some wild rides on Wildfire (no pun intended) thanks to having room that was comparable to buzz bars. It could climb as I get more rides...

I also moved Piraten up a couple spots after reriding VelociCoaster. Not that VC has gotten any worse, but I realize I definitely prefer Piraten. It's more my style of ride and it seriously has some of the best airtime anywhere.

Hagrid also moved up from the #30 spot... this is gonna be one of those rides where it keeps rising the more I ride it. No other ride can put a huge smile on my face more than this one.

The loss this time around was Montu, previously at #28. Still fantastic, but it couldn't maintain its position.

A few of those Jurassic IPAs also help make the queue time melt away. :p

So me and the GF had a long drive and i asked her " what are your top 10 coasters "

She is not an enthusiast but she could come up with coasters she likes and was able to order them into a top 10. This list is cursed, you will see she has been to parks with some great coasters but she likely found them to scary, she seems to also not find rough coasters rough. Anyway here is her list ☺️

1: Vampire - CWOA
"You fly through the woods it's great"
2: Grand National
"I like how it races and its really fun"
3: Furious Baco
"It was funny how it beat you up hahaha"
4: Stampida
"Racing was cool but the blackpool one was better"
5: Rock 'n' Roller coaster - Paris
Aerosmith 😁
6: Swarm
"Felt safe and felt like flying"
7: Bobsleigh - Blackpool
"Scary but i like how it wiggles"
8: Saw - the ride
"Great but not enough horror"
9: Tornado - Madrid
Her best coaster growing up.
10: Montaña Suiza
"Boring but a nice view"

New year, same me! Still feeling good about this lineup. Have Vegas, SFMM, and Knotts here in a few weeks. Get a ton of creds I've missed AND get to reride some gems. Should see a shakeup, especially given the ERT we'll be getting. :)
