Hello friends of Coaster Force!

For this year we have a brand new series of Trip reports from our Germany / France Alpes roadtrip of 2024!

As usual, we've made two types of reports. For those who don't like reading, we've created a vlog with moving images for this day:

For those who aren't interested in endless chatter interspersed with visuals, we've made a complete report below with individual on-ride videos and photos of the attractions:

Europa Park Day 1 + the Evening Before

This summer vacation, we (Supernovae78, Coaster Iris, and Supernovae Jr.) sought entertainment in Germany and France. Here's the report of the first day (and a bit of the evening before).

On Sunday, July 14th, we departed around 10 AM, heading towards Rust and arriving at 'Boland Apartments' at 5 PM, about a 15-minute walk from the park. We were welcomed by the enthusiastic and friendly owner.

While Supernovae78 and Jr are unpacking the suitecases Coaster Iris is allowed to relax a little in the backyard after driving us from the Netherlands to South Germany.

After settling in and eating, we decided to go to the Colosseo hotel to watch the final of the European Football Championship on a big screen. We would have preferred to be there in our orange shirts, but let's not talk about that... Luckily, Spain won, which we preferred over England, so we still had a little celebration. It was great to experience it this way; it was very busy but had a nice atmosphere.

Satisfied, we walked back to our apartment to quickly get into bed. The next day we had to get up early for the first day in the 'showroom of the Mack family'.

Monday, July 15th: Hello Europa Park, we're back after two years of absence! Let's start by having breakfast at our favorite bakery in France/Switzerland, sitting at the tables with the red and white checkered tablecloths by the water. The "Käse-und-speck pretzels" were gratefully devoured, giving us the energy to face the day. We stocked up on drinks because, with 30 degrees, you don't want to be without water.

We decided to first check out Austria, as this area had been renovated after the fire in June 2023. It's a very beautiful area to walk through, more spacious than the old one, with great viewpoints of the renovated Powered Coaster Alpenexpress Enzian and the revamped log flume Tiroler Wildwasserbahn.

After walking around for a bit, it was time to test the first attraction: Alpenexpress, show us what you've got! We all agreed that it ran smoothly through the track and didn't slow down for the station even after the second round—great! We also hit up the log flume, which is no punishment with this heat; this attraction has also turned out really nice.

Some nice interaction with the Mack Powered.

Next up was Voltron, the park's latest addition. We had read some enthusiastic reviews here and there, so expectations were high. After waiting in line for about 50 minutes, it was finally our turn, only to (especially Supernovae78 and Coaster Iris) come out almost broken. It was a very unpleasant ride. The coaster itself is great, with cool inversions and all, but the word "smooth" doesn't exist in the vocabulary of this Mack coaster. Especially if you're sitting on the side, it's not good for your limbs.... Later we found out online that 3 out of 7 trains didn't have shock absorbers yet, so we were among the 'lucky' ones riding one of those 3 trains. Luckily, we had another day; maybe we'll have better luck then... An on-ride video was made on the second day of our visit, so it can also be found there. Especially since this was not a front-seat ride and it certainly didn't stay family-friendly.

It was already time for lunch, which we had in Ireland at "The O'Mackay’s Café and Pub." After a delicious lunch (the Shepherd’s pie there is highly recommended!), it was time to ride the most exciting coaster in the park. The Ba-a-a-Express... well, all for the YouTube channel, right... so, done with that and moving on...

TR 1.jpg
From the observation tower Ba-a-a Express is located in the centre of this Ireland area picture.

It was time to visit Arthur. We enjoyed the world of this brave boy and the Minimoys, defeated the villain, and moved on with the day's agenda. Short wait time, too. We only had to queue for about 15 minutes.

TR 3.jpg

TR 1.jpg

It was time for another water attraction, Atlantica Supersplash, here we come! Supernovae Jr. discovered that you don't get too wet on this water coaster. Not too bad with 29 degrees and humid weather.

TR 1.jpg

TR 2.jpg

Wodan awaited us. Google tells me that this is the Germanic version of the god Odin, a well-known figure from Norse mythology. He is mighty, which is evident during a ride on this wooden roller coaster from GCI; the wooden duo coaster Joris en de Draak is child's play in comparison... Despite its age, this GCI coaster still offers a very pleasant ride.

TR 2.jpg

TR 3.jpg

TR 4.jpg

From wood to steel, it's all possible... launch coaster Blue Fire, here we come! Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate, so it was a rainy ride, which isn't very enjoyable! But it's still a mega coaster, with great inversions and beautiful Icelandic theming.

Seeing the threatening clouds, we decided to go on some dark rides. We were near Snorri, this cute and somewhat clumsy octopus takes you to his mysterious underwater world of Rulantica. We had visited this attraction two years ago and were impressed then, as we are now, by this fantastic dark ride. A must-do if you're visiting the park and fun for the whole family, especially if you have young children.

TR 1.jpg

TR 3.jpg

Earlier in the day, Piraten in Batavia was suggested, and since we were there, we decided to check it out. We're still surprised at how few visitors this attraction has; if you have to wait 5 minutes, it's a lot. And why? It's a beautiful dark water ride and doesn't deserve to be so poorly attended. Also, it's a nice break from all the coaster action, right?

TR 1.jpg

TR 2.jpg

The park was open until 7 PM that day, and since we wanted to spend time on the attractions, we decided to eat in Rust. On the way from our apartment to the park, we had already seen a grill restaurant, and since all three of us were in the mood for some meat, the choice was quickly made; we decided to try 'The Grill.'

For a reasonable price, you can eat well and more than enough to satisfy your hunger.

The day was over, time to watch the videos from the DJI action cam on the big screen and then head to bed around 11 PM.

On to day 2!

Europa-Park Day 2

Again we have here the full day vlog video for those who don't like to read the full report:

And here we continue our full report of day 2 at Europa-park!

After a great night's sleep, it was time for our second day at Europa-Park. We started with a good breakfast at the "Europa-Park Rock Café," a place we hadn’t tried before but certainly approved of! We still had plenty of roller coasters to ride, so we quickly moved on.

20240716_090025.jpg

Switzerland was our first destination, which we consider one of the most beautiful areas. The nice thing about this area is that there are many little houses you can enter and sit down in to enjoy the tranquility or the view. You can also find some 'hidden animatronics' here and there. So, for those who aren’t very familiar with the park, take your time to explore this area; it's full of surprises!

TR 1.jpg

Our first roller coaster was the "Schweizer Bobbahn," a bobsled coaster by Mack. It's short, not too fast, but has a reasonably fun layout. It's not worth waiting in line for too long, but with a maximum wait of 30 minutes, it's fun to do. Next up was the "Matterhorn Blitz," a wild mouse coaster also located in the Swiss section. The waiting area inside is very atmospheric, with rooms showcasing Swiss rural life, adding to the experience. However, the ride itself isn’t particularly special, with the lift being the most interesting part. Otherwise, it's a rough ride where you get tossed around, typical for this type of coaster, but not necessarily enjoyable unless you like bruises.

TR 2.jpg
We then headed to France to start with the "Eurosat-Cancan Coaster." To the tune of the famous Cancan music, you experience a ride through the Parisian nightlife. For those who remember this roller coaster before it was converted to the Cancan version, it used to be much rougher, but now that's a thing of the past. Your 80-year-old grandpa could probably ride it now (figuratively speaking).

Another major attraction, possibly the park's biggest, is also located in France: the "Silver Star"! This B&M coaster themed after Mercedes-Benz is a delightful ride, where you're so comfortably seated that you could do a 24-hour challenge on it. It's wonderful to descend from 73 meters on one of the smoothest roller coasters we know.

The weather was warm again on this day, not as much as the day before, but still perfect for visiting some water attractions. "Poseidon"... supposedly had a retrack in 2022. We didn’t notice any 'improved' version then, and still didn't this time... If anyone knows where the smooth sections are, let us know, as we haven't found them yet. We were glad to be off it. However, it is located in one of the park's more beautiful themed areas, Greece.

TR 2.jpg

20220720_125254.jpg

We stayed in Greece for "Pegasus." A wonderfully smooth roller coaster, known as a kiddie coaster but doesn't feel like one. Though it’s not worth a long wait. There are plenty of other roller coasters in the park that take priority for multiple visits.

Next, we headed to Russia for "Euro-Mir." Based on previous experiences, we knew it would be a painful ride, so we braced ourselves as soon as the spinning coaster started its descent, but there’s not much you can do; it only limits the damage to your limbs. It's a fun layout and a clever concept, but for a "smooth ride," we would recommend other coasters in the park.

TR 2.jpg

20220721_141023.jpg

As mentioned in the trip report for day 1, we made another attempt at "Voltron" for a better ride. Unfortunately, it was again a ride in one of the trains without shock absorbers, but Supernovae78 and CoasterIris noticed a positive difference between sitting in the middle and sitting on the side. They chose the former this time, which made the ride much more pleasant.

TR 8.jpg

As the day came to an end, Supernovae78 and CoasterIris went on some flat rides, including our favorite, the "Taxis" in England, while SupernovaeJr. opted for another ride on "Wodan." We all agreed that now with the addition of "Voltron," even two days are not enough to fully explore the park, even when the park is open an hour longer, like on this day.

Of course, we also had to eat. This time, we dined at the "Colosseo Hotel" in the Italian restaurant, enjoying dishes from this country. Back in the apartment, we didn’t stay up too late, as we were heading to day 3, Rulantica!

Day 3 - Rulantica

For those who don't like to read the whole report, here you find a compilation video of our day at Rulantica:

Day 3 had already arrived, and we stayed in Rust, but this time not for the roller coasters, but for the water slides in Rulantica. Two years ago, we visited for the first time and were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful water park complex. This time again, we were amazed by the underwater world of Snorri. Each water slide is themed with beautiful paintings or shaped like snakes. During your journey on "Snorri’s Saga," there is plenty to see along the walls of this lazy river.

TR 1.jpg

TR 6.jpg

In 2022, they were constructing the "Vikingløp," the largest racing slide in Europe, consisting of no less than 8 lanes. You grab a mat, and after the countdown, you "dive" onto it, hoping to be the fastest to reach the bottom. A very fun addition to the water park, and due to its high capacity, it's a great option when the other water slides are crowded. The wild river "Vildstrøm" is also enjoyable; it's not too wild, making it suitable for the whole family and a nice break between the slides, as it also has a large capacity.

TR 7.jpg

TR 4.jpg

The park is open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and you really need this time to enjoy all the water slides and other attractions at your leisure. Some water slides are for the true thrill-seekers, like the "Dugdrob," where you race down at high speed in a free fall, or the "Vinte Rytt," which has a nice ramp and can carry a maximum weight of 300 kilograms per tube to prevent you from flying over the ramp. Others are also suitable for the less daring, like the duo-racer "Hugin."

TR 2.jpg

TR 3.jpg

The only downside we found was the food and beverage service; there was limited food choice, and if you wanted a drink, you had to first order your food and then fetch your drink from the soda machine with a full tray and an empty cup. This was very inconvenient as there was nowhere to place your tray, and if you were alone, it was quite a challenge. There was also a machine where you could return your empty cups and get the deposit refunded onto your payment wristband, but by the end of the day, all of these machines were broken, so you still had to queue to return the cups to the staff at the counters. This could definitely be improved...

TR 5.jpg

TR 8.jpg

The owner of our apartment had given us a voucher for free parking at Europa-Park or Rulantica. Knowing from two years ago that after a day of carrying tubes up the stairs, you'd be quite sore, we decided to use this voucher for free parking at Rulantica so we could travel there and back by car.

Once home, we were tired and satisfied after a fun day at Rulantica. Next time, we'll be back! On to day 4: Steinwasen Park!
