Track "seperates" on The Smiler

All these issues are a real shame for both the average joe and Alton themselves, hardly doing themselves any favors with this ride.
I'm heading there at the end of Sep, shorter queues and, fingers crossed, the ride runs properly for a month.

They're doing work on a support... Which support? I dunno... Why? I dunno either...

Subsidence sounds possible considering their issues with the ground-type and the numerous amount of concrete 'sleeves' they needed to put in...

I'm kinda hoping it reopens Saturday at least, otherwise it'll be demand freebies time <3

EDIT - Yeah a support is sinking... Who did they get to do the ground survey? Cos they cocked up big time...

Subsidence?

I'm not an engineer and I don't know enough about this stuff, yada yada yada, but...

What the hell is going on?

I kinda wish that back when the track not joining up issue first arose they had announced that unfortunately it would not be opening until 2014/ That would have saved them the disastrous customer service blunders that they have perpetually performed all season long.

Re: Track "seperates" on The Smiler

That thought did cross my mind as well but I thought they would have made sure that did not happen.

We had a bad winter and they probably did not wait long enough.

Smiler is just a disaster tbh and a joke.

Source on the support sinking? Had seen it said but so far just seen loads of forums speculating and surprisingly nobody even lying about having 'been there'.

If it is subsidence, it's hard to lay the blame directly with Alton. Iirc there was actually a health and safety issue that caused a delay that was to do with the groundwork, wonder if this is related.

No one's blaming Alton directly, but someone is at fault. Someone overseeing the project. Construction companies, Gerstlaurer, etc.

Subsidence or not, it's up and down like a yo yo and there will be a reason. Whatever that reason is adds to the pile of wtf, no matter how minor...

When you have so many issues, you have to logically assume they are the fault of some larger problem with the way a project is being managed.

Weren't there rumours that Black Hole was under constant repair due to subsidence? Or has this rumour come about because of that rumour?

That would be interesting, especially as it seemingly only affects that specific part of X Sector. Oblivion has never had any issues, although that could just be down to B&M looking into things because they're efficient and professional like that.

^And it closed again just before you posted for what I believe to be the rest of yesterday!

It's operating this morning, but for how long...?

It did close, then it reopened later (2ish if I recall) as I rode it again...

I dunno about anyone else, but I have no interest in minor technical difficulties that ALL COASTERS SUFFER ON MOST DAYS.

If it's down for MOST of the day or more, then it's worth mentioning.

The problems lies with the construction company AT used, they did the ground work & bolted the coaster together, there is no blame on Gerstlauer as they have done their part to supply the coaster.

For the track issues, maybe. For sensor failures like Saw was plagued with, or the stalling problems like Saw is plagued with..? That's probably Gerstlauer...

^ Do Gerstlauer actually design their own circuitry though? Quite a few ride manufactures haven't fully gone all in-house with the actual gubbins of a ride, other than the design.

Re: Track "seperates" on The Smiler

Erol Is right.

Still Gersts and Merlins combined fault for contracting useless people though.

And the stalling issues that plague both rides?

I agree that often these things are beyond the actual "in-house" stuff produced, but if Apple phones started failing because of the Samsung chips in them, who would get the blame if Apple kept on producing the phones using the same Samsung chop saying "yes, they don't work, but it's Samsung, not us". Apple would for continuing to use suppliers who aren't reliable.

Plus, Gerstlauer probably DO design the electrics, they just get other companies to provide the equipment and design around what's provided. Most of it is probably off-the-shelf stuff mind.

Anyway, it's still a combination of poor choices by both Gerstlauer and Alton. If you already know Gerstlauer make poor choices on this model type, then you don't pick them as a provider. Except you do if they're the only people who can complete the project you want
