Universal's Epic Universe | Orlando USA | Theme Park

With track on site, I guess we could say that construction has started? Off to the Park Construction forum, then!

The thread would have to move sooner or later anyway, so might as well do it now.

A couple of cool updates regarding Epic Universe.

Universal filed a couple of patents recently for a Robocoaster system similar to Forbidden Journey's that does not require restraint check indicators. Its alleged to be for the Universal Studios Monsters dark ride. You can see an analysis here; https://orlandoparkstop.com/news/th...ossibly-revealed-in-patent-for-epic-universe/

Second, last week (December 2nd) Universal bought two pieces of property - 7.66 and 5.25 acres - for $1.76 million and $1.2 million, respectively. Both pieces of land were owned by U.S. Military affiliated Lockheed Martin Corp. Both portions of land are located close to the ongoing 1.7 mile Kirkland Road extension project and the Epic Universe construction site; https://www.bizjournals.com/orlando...-martin-sells-property-to-universal-tied.html

Finally, a piece of concept artwork for the How To Train Your Dragon land surfaced on Themeparx. Check it out below, no telling how recent this is or whether it represents the final design, but it seems close enough. We have the promised pair of Gerstlauer Sky Fly's in the area - with the ride signage Dragon Racer Rally - plus a glimpse of coaster track in the back, which does not appear to resemble the tri or quad bar track that I've seen in some unofficial renders.

In a new interview Roland Mack (Mack Rides) said again that Mack Rides should have built a roller coaster for the "Epic Universe" before the construction was stopped. The amount of money for the ride is in the tens of millions of dollars. He also said Universal has renewed the contract and Mack will build two more roller coasters for Universal.

Whats the time stamp for this?

Lots of updates from Universal's Epic Universe over the past several weeks.

First, lots of new Boom Coaster track has been produced by the Intermountain Lift plant, could likely be intended for Epic Universe's iteration of the Donkey Kong coaster. It's very similar to the attraction currently under construction in Japan, although while much has already been installed there, the possibility of this hardware being intended for Japan can't yet be ruled out.

Second, restaurant artwork has surfaced on a designer's site, with the same planetary emblem that has appeared in other Epic Universe concepts. You can see a handful of images for the featured exterior/interior design.

Third, permits were filed last month for Project 912, which is expected to be another 750 room hotel at the corner of Universal Blvd and Kirkman Road;

And finally, construction is underway! Cranes and temporary concrete tanks have gone up, sites have been marked, and the new areas are being constructed (following photos are from Bioreconstruct on Twitter)

Some recent rumors about the park;

Ok, not so much a rumor here, but Universal has just been hit by a $250million lawsuit by a real estate company claiming that there was a widely known arrangement for the Epic Universe land to be sold to them, but that the owner backed out at the last second in favor of Universal. They should be able to settle this; https://floridapolitics.com/archive...d-universal-acquired-to-build-new-theme-park/

The planned Fantastic Beasts area may be on the rocks. The third installment is about to hit theaters, but the franchise - not terribly popular to begin with - has been plagued by scandals and controversy. Everything has entered the arena ranging from expected middling financial/critical reception among audiences to lead actors going rogue to even the material's creator somehow infamously managing to alienate everybody. Two sequels are planned to follow, but Warner Bros will be keeping an eye on this film's performance, and an unsatisfying result may spill over into the park's plans.

On a more positive note, some friends of friends in Europe were able to gain some hints from Mack Rides engineers about the new dueling coaster... each (separate) track will allegedly have a length upwards of 4900 feet and straddle a total of nine trains between both. Can't back this up so time will tell.

Now, about Mack Rides signing on for two more coaster projects, as mentioned above. One, Universal Monsters area is now rumored to include a Mack Rides family spinning coaster, in place of the originally planned theatre. The second seems to be that HTTYD land coaster. Someone dug up a layout on the public domain and here is an adjusted diagram showcasing Mack track (unclear how much of this is edited).

How do people even manage to dig up these details... amazing work!!!
Also as much as this resort might end up feeling like it has one too many family launch coasters, it's still a welcome addition in my book

I had high hopes they would have chosen Mack as supplier, the how to train your dragon ride in Dubai is superb and the ride system is ideal for families and the combination between coaster and darkride.

True, although I imagine Universal wanted something a bit different and not similar to existing HTTYD rides.

To shatter any illusions as to whether we’re still in the dirt pushing page, structures have been going vertical recently. Monsters, Ministry of Magic, and now the Donkey Kong boom coaster track and supports are going up, no joke. It takes a bit of zooming in but this is not a drill, first coaster has indeed gone up;

Are we even sure that's coaster track, and not part of some other girder arch structure? We've had many, many of these "coaster track spotted on the highway!" threads over the years, and most of the time, it has turned out to be some unrelated support structure for stadium lights or something like that.
