Walt Disney Studios Paris | Ratatouille | Dark ride

Re: Ratatouille dark ride rumour - DLP

The problem is, ALL those additions, apart from Tower, have either been a shower, or totally and utterly the WRONG rides for the park. Crush does NOT work at a Disney park, the capacity is MUCH too low, and it BREAKS, whereas that Half Pipe? Same thing.

Those rides are NOT Disney calibar. At all. Even in California Adventure they'd be at the back, mocked by all the decent, proper rides.

I'm sorry Peep, but, you REALLY need to get to more Disney parks.

Paris is just down the road

True.

But judging by the majority of people on here who've been to Pauper Disney, and spend days/weeks in those two parks, then this is actually the closest a lot of people will get to seeing Paris anyway.

That I do.

I agree that Crush's capacity is abysmal but it was always going to be. The ride itself is good (even though it could be better).

The half pipe actually has a large capacity due to its short ride cycle, quick batching and lots of riders on each cycle. It's actualy a lot better than it really should be (I hated the idea when it was announced) and there are little touches which I think make it a brilliant addition.

I really do think that over the next, say, 10 years it'll really transform into a brilliant park, it's going to take time but we'll just have to be patient.

Re: Ratatouille dark ride rumour - DLP

Yes, Crush was always going to be abysmal... so it should have never been built... That's not an EXCUSE...

And "lots of riders per cycle"... It holds 20 people... And looking on YouTube, the ride bit is about 40 seconds... So MAYBE 3 cycles every 5 minutes? (that would be VERY quick)... So... 36 cycles an hour... 720pph... That's NOT a Disney number Peep. And if it's not getting queues, it's something ELSE putting people off.

The Studios might be awesome in 10 years, but, NONE of the things built in the last 10 (bar Tower) have been working towards this, and this is suffering every step of the way, so, sorry, can't be too enthusiastic. Disney Studios has some deeply, deeply rooted problems, and it NEEDS a face-lift like CA is getting, and a LOT more desperately than CA ever needed it.

Re: Ratatouille dark ride rumour - DLP

^At DCA, which is the other CRAP Disney park, hence why it's being gutted and given a face-lift. To me it seems they made the same mistakes there that they have at the Paris studios.

Re: Ratatouille dark ride rumour - DLP

One massive mistake IMO was the look... the tarmac and tin shed buildings?! Something must have gone wrong as they're weren't in the original plans, which if they had stuck to, we probably wouldn't be slating this park so much.

Re: Ratatouille dark ride rumour - DLP

^ I don't think anything 'went wrong' the original Disney MGM studios Europe plans were scrapped mid way through 1992 due to DLP's financial problems. It was a completely different park to the Walt Disney studios park that we have today.

They simply went for a cheaper option which is a shame, as this was a vastly superior park.

If the third gate turns out to be a DisneySea clone all will be forgiven though

Re: Ratatouille dark ride rumour - DLP

^But, I don't want to see just 'another' of a similar type of Disney park. Yes, DisneySea DOES looks **** out of this world, and yes I'd love it if it were as close as in Paris, but what I'd really really love to see is an entirely new concept. Disney are amazing at this, and parks like DisneySea prove this to no end, so I really don't see why (other than just because it's cheaper, obviously) we just see clones of rides that already exist. It's just lazy in my opinion and Disney are better than that. They seem to have realised what with all the awesomeness happening at Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland at the moment, but still, new and original is ALWAYS better than just a rehashed, cheap ass version of a ride that already exists.

Re: Ratatouille dark ride rumour - DLP

^ I can see what you mean but I guess the main reason they clone their rides is due to them being so popular. Tower of Terror is one of the best drop rides, if not THE best drop ride in the world so why not recreate it at all Disney parks? Its simply what the guests want...

As for new and original thats what they are doing with Ratatouille to some extent..

Except they recreated the BAD one BADLY in the other parks, leaving the only good, well place and well themed one standing in Orlando.

What I'm saying is sure, do clones and whatever, but do them as good as the first one was, not some half assed lazy version.

Re: Ratatouille dark ride rumour - DLP

^ I know what you mean, and I'd guess that is down to DLP not actually being owned by the Walt Disney Co... EuroDisney SCA own it, and the Walt Disney Co just have shares in it.

Really random fact here, Disney actually owns the Space Mountain at DLP, and leases it to EuroDisney SCA!)

Oh, and Spicy, I'm not on about them plans, I'm on about the original plans for WDS.

True, although I suppose that is a matter of opinion some people actually prefer the Cali/Paris version of the Tower for some reason...
There will always be variations of the Disney rides and then it is up to people to make their own minds up of what they consider the better or inferior version. For instance I prefer Paris's PoTC to Orlando's but thats my opinion, I know alot of people think the complete opposite.

Oh, I didn't know there were other plans that were altered. Any idea were those plans could be found would be interesting to take a look :)

Anyone who prefers the Cali/Paris version is a damned fool. Paris PotC is better purely because it is more thrilling, however I do prefer the storyline to the Orlando one.

Re: Ratatouille dark ride rumour - DLP

Work has started on the Rat dark ride:

And if you haven't seen it already, the Parisian street thats been in place for a while now:

Apparently, the working title for the construction is "Ratatouille Kitchen Calamity". If it is true about the trackless system, then I guess we could be riding around in kitchen pans!

Re: Ratatouille dark ride - Walt Disney Studios, Paris

I don't understand the street, it's just some benches and lamps?

Re: Ratatouille dark ride - Walt Disney Studios, Paris

It's something they randomly built, I think it's Imagineers way of forcing the park to build stuff as the park opened with a toilet block and courtyard with Tower's theming ready for when the ride was opened. As I pointed out to Nic the other day when we were there, the archway to Toy Story Playland actually has a bust of Gustau (sp?) on it which managers then had to pay to cover up when they realised it was there :p

In other words that street was made with the theming all ready for Ratatouille.

Re: Ratatouille dark ride - Walt Disney Studios, Paris

Gotta love the Imagineers way of working :)

Re: Ratatouille dark ride - Walt Disney Studios, Paris

So, 8 months after the last update, and in true DLP fashion, not much has happened. Its only just gone vertical!

Also, they are 'testing' facades to cover up the Imaginations building;
