Weird, Wacky & Strange Coaster Bits

Re: Wierd, Wacky & Strange Coaster Bits

^And the world's only corkscrew(s) with a catwalk all the way over! :p

Re: Wierd, Wacky & Strange Coaster Bits

I hope Ben is okay with this, I will take it down if you aren't.
While reading his "Thorpe Park and Florida" TR, I found this Immellman/Dive loop looked very strange at the top. All photo credtit to Ben.

^^He gets offended if you don't call him "Benjamin" at all times.

Yes, that loop thing looks weird.

That pink Korean Arrow... Does it have catwalks on the loops? I can't really see.

Yes, it has catwalks stretching much of the ride..

Interesting how the elements are played out...

It's fine, just, stop saying my name :)
Fixed.
Why would they even bother putting catwalks on the corkscrew? Because I highly doubt the train will ever get stuck in the element.

Re: Wierd, Wacky & Strange Coaster Bits

Why they would do it is beyond our knowledge and comprehension. Perhaps the park wanted the catwalks? Perhaps logistical safety requirements mandated them? Who knows.

Re: Wierd, Wacky & Strange Coaster Bits

Bottom Feeder has the best answer yet. It's easy to check for stress cracks or broken welds when there's a catwalk to walk on.

As for Hair Raiser's immelmann, it's just the angle of the photo. What you are seeing is the slipping of the track to account for the heartline.

Re: Wierd, Wacky & Strange Coaster Bits

I know it was brought up waaay earlier but it was for the lift. I personally think the pretzel knot supports on Moonsault Scramble are awesome!

This one's small but gives a better view of the spikes.

Re: Wierd, Wacky & Strange Coaster Bits

^Agreed. That's got to be one of the better examples of coaster-art. It must have looked so good walking towards it. Plus is was silly intense as far as I understand, so even more win! :p

Re: Wierd, Wacky & Strange Coaster Bits

Yeah, I am definitely a fan. Just wish I could get over to Japan or China for a chance to ride some coasters.

Re: Wierd, Wacky & Strange Coaster Bits

I bet you they are crazy rough. Is this one a Vekoma Bommerang Knockoff?

Nope, as you can see the layouts are completely different:

Boomerangs feature a cobra roll, whereas Moonsault Scramble had (the world's only) pretzel knot. :)

Re: Wierd, Wacky & Strange Coaster Bits

I know the difference, but is the Moonsult thing based off of Vekoma's boomerang?

Re: Wierd, Wacky & Strange Coaster Bits

Well, the first Vekoma Boomerang opened in 1984 and Moonsault Scramble opened in 1983 so I'm gonna say if anything it was the other way around, but probably unrelated.

It was probably Meisho Amusement Mcahines' attempt to create a ride that would compete with Vekoma Boomerangs.

Again, Moonsault Scramble opened first as far as I can tell so that logic makes no sense...
