What's next for RMC?

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

When I worked at Worlds of Fun, Mamba chewed through wheels like crazy due to heat, the friction melted the wheels. It's a semi common occurrence for coasters in high heat areas.

The single rail steel coaster has some form of actual layout being shown at the RMC booth!

Cropped image is courtesy of a larger TPR image.

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

So taking a serious look at the supports, this concept looks more and more like a straight steel roller coaster.

In which case, it would appear the purpose of the single rail concept is to simply allow for better integration with steel supports, and allow RMC to build a fully steel roller coaster.

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

I guess its also being called "T-Rex Track".

The concept layout looks fab. Beyond 90 drop, a weird dual zero G that looks like Cannibals double barrel roll.

Plus, it has a top hat mid course it seems.

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

Yeah looks pretty cool. That weird inversion looks like a zero g into a wave turn, followed by another zero g.

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

There also seem to be some sort of "junior" T-Rex track on display:

No wonder what it'll be used for though :? Hoping we will see some RMC interviews during the show to explain the concept further!

I may regret this post...

Right now, I'm actually not that impressed. Sure, the layout and inversions and stuff look great, but it doesn't look as striking as I was expecting. Using the image from TPR as reference:

Take the zero-g-roll in their rendering - the spacing of the supports isn't drastically different to what we see on the B&M sit-downs:

Now I understand that the roll will put additional loads on the track that will need to be addressed, and maybe a straight airtime hill would allow them to really cut down on the supports (the lateral and torsional loading on the track will be essentially zero), but I can't say that that rendering looks that revolutionary.

And look at their top hat compared to Xcelerator - doesn't seem that different really...

It's obviously early days, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what they've got up their sleeves, but that rendering isn't blowing me away yet.

I can't wait to eat my words though...

Agreed! For now I can't see how it is that exciting. More info needed!

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

I for one cannot understand all the buzz the "Single Rail" gets as its not much difference than coaster rails dating back to the times of Schwarzkopf LoopingRacer tracks. Interestingly some of their rendering show trains inspired by Schwarzkopf trains.

Just fyi - in Germany we have a real single rail train

Ohh! Schwebebahn is awesome :--D I read somewhere that it's the the safest way of transportation in the world!

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

They better come out with a pterodactyl track for invert or flyers.

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

I'm with you Hixee, up to now, I truly don't see an additional benefit too it, apart from maybe using a few less supports and it's aesthetic alterations to other coasters. I suppose it's only going to become apparent if somebody buys one of them - hat being said, with what the likes of Premier, Intamin and S&S are doing now, I don't understand why somebody would actually risk going for this, unless the price is somewhat smaller than those mentioned.

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

^I assume it will produce a high thrill at a low cost. They do mention in the video that it will use fewer welding points and "easier manufacturing". Add to that the fewer amonts of supports, which makes for quite complicated track manufacturing with other companies (take eg Intamins quad- and double spine designs), and the T-Rex track should be more affordable than it's counterparts.

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

This is the same rhetoric that was said when the Iron Horse was announced, and then when they came out with topper track as well.

I am more interested in seeing what they can do with it rather than confident with it being amazing. But their track record is outstanding so.

Bingo. There is nothing revolutionary about the T-Rex design - it is a steel coaster, with a track that simply has no splines (unlike B&M, Intamin's latice design, etc.).

The real innovation would fall to the actual track layout, or more specifically how they package elements together, ala Outlaw Run, Goliath, etc.

And on making steel coasters more affordable, let us not forget the economic concept that as goods become cheaper, consumers purchase goods. If this does indeed make the steel coaster process cheaper, good! However, I'd anticipate a park to simply dedicate equal project cost to greater track length, more theming, etc.

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

I wonder how much more excited people would be about the T-Rex concept if Cannibal hadn't had that Lagoon Roll first.

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

^What on earth does the use of a lagoon roll have to do with this track? Please elaborate?

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

That RMC roll will be nothing like Lagoon's barrel rolls. This one here has more of a zero g shape too.

Re: What's next for RMC? New Concept Coaster (page 4)

Indeed, The Lagoon Roll and T-Rex Inversion appear to be more like a zero-g roll vs. inline twist, with the Lagoon Roll a slower inversion experience, similar to an inline twist.

1:50 for Lagoon Roll

1:24 for Inline Twist

if anything, I'd anticipate the T-Rex inversion to come across like the Zero-G Stall on Goliath. (0:30)
