Your Reverchon/Zamperla spinning mouse count

CF Legend
Hi guys. Seeing the topics that @Howie has made for Boomerangs/SLCs and Wacky Worms, I thought it might be fun to do our counts of another common ride type; the good old spinning mouse! For some reason or another, most British showmen seem to own at least one of these (some even own multiple), and many small to mid-tier theme parks and piers (and even some larger chain parks) seem to have one of these in some form, whether it be the older Reverchon model or the newer Zamperla model; combining the two, they’re probably one of the most common coaster types in existence! These seem to be absolutely everywhere, so I thought it might be fun to see how many we’ve ridden.

I’ll get the ball rolling with my own count; I actually have quite a few given my coaster count! I’ve only actually done the Reverchon models, but my count currently sits at 5; a pretty substantial (for one coaster model) 6.94% of my count! The ones I’ve done (in order of me doing them) are:
  1. Primeval Whirl - Left (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)
  2. Primeval Whirl - Right (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)
  3. Crazy Coaster (South Pier Blackpool)
  4. Ice Mountain (Mellors-Travelling)
  5. Spinning Coaster (Buwalda-Travelling)
I think these may actually be my most ridden coaster model...

But what does your spinning mouse count look like?

Might as well expand this to all spinning mice types.

The reason I specifically highlighted the Zamperla/Reverchon model is because that seems to be the one you see pretty much everywhere (the 420STD layout is incredibly common), whereas the Gerstlauer and Maurer models are far less common and tend to be exclusively found in permanent theme parks, as well as usually tending to be custom layouts bar 1 or 2 that are clones of each other. I’d argue that the 420STD layout spinning mouse built by either Reverchon or Zamperla is almost a common +1 layout to the same extent as the Wacky Worm, personally, and they all have the exact same layout as one another; Reverchon spinners are one of the types of coasters where I know pretty much exactly how they’re going to ride before I ride them. Of course they do vary, with some (Primeval Whirl Right) being marginally more painful than others (Crazy Coaster) from my experience, but they provide pretty much identical ride experiences bar the minor differences in smoothness. They never really warrant much of an explanation in trip reports, in the same manner as a Wacky Worm.

But still, thanks for sharing! Very interesting to see that you’ve done almost as many of both Maurer Sohne and Gerstlauer as you have Reverchon/Zamperla; I’ve done 5 Reverchons, while I’ve only done 2 Maurers and am yet to ride a Gerstlauer!

While I was looking through my list, I noticed that I was scrolling past numerous non-spinning wild mice as well, and I wouldn't be surprised to see this list dwarf the combined list I posted above. I'd bet that the commonality among the rides in our respective lists is mainly attributed to regional aspects more than anything.

For some reason, Reverchon spinning mice are incredibly common in Britain, especially in very small parks, piers and on the travelling fair circuit!
EDIT: Fun fact; out of all the operating Reverchon spinners (21), Britain has 6 of them, which is more than America has (5), and that’s excluding the many, many Reverchon mice that are on the travelling fair circuit, as well as all the Zamperla models!

@Matt N - be proud of yourself young man, I think you may have ridden more than me! ?

I can only think of 4:
1. The one at West Midlands Safari Park.
2. The one at South Pier, Blackpool (the previous one, not the current one).
3. The one at Brean Leisure Park.
4. One side of Primeval Whirl.

I've seen a lot more than that obvs, but I generally tend to skip them because, well... because they're gross!

My trip to Hyde Park Winter Wonderland this January netted me 2 out of the 5; apart from Olympia, pretty much every coaster there is some variation of the wild mouse coaster!

I love these things. I have ridden a couple of them at various fairs but sadly only one permanent. It's the one at Luna Parc Mamaia in Romania. It is also the coaster I have ridden the most. Over the 10 years I have ridden it I probably have somewhere between 50 to 100 rides on it.

On one ride there was something wrong with my car and the car was spinning throughout the whole course. Taking those turns up high while spinning and taking the drop backwards was something special. It just made the ride so much better. While unloading the boss started screaming like crazy at the ride op for dispatching the train while something was broken. I was just like "Chill out, this mistake just gave me the best ride in Romania!". Has anyone else gotten spinning throughout the whole ride?

1: One at Knutsford Fair
2: South Pier (old)
3 One at Ashton moss fair (unsure if it's the same one at Knutsford)
4: Twister at Lightwater Valley
5: Primeval Whirl (left)
6: Primeval Whirl (right)
7: Ice Mountain (Winter Wonderland)

If I get an extra point I have done the fabbri version at Botton's Pleasure Beach.

Only one, but it's a bit of a rare cred: Bukkerittet at Kongeparken in Norway. It might also be one of the best-themed Reverchon spinners out there, being located high on a hilltop and with a nice wooden castle theme:

I have that one too. But always thought it was an SBF cause I dont remember that I enjoyed it or that I did any reride on it. I was ridding that bob ride all day. That thing is just so fun.

Haven't done that many Reverchon or Zamperla, maybe 2 or 3. Only do them when lines aren't long. But have lots of non-spinning Mack Mouse under my belt...

I make it 24 including 6 travelling and 1 Chinese version of the same layout - there may be more of those ones, but I can't remember any off the top of my head or by looking at names.

Best spin ever? Brighton Pier.
Some don't even spin at all.

Has anyone else gotten spinning throughout the whole ride?
Yes, Funland Theme Park a few weeks back. It didn't feel quite right.

So much vom in this thread. ?

Just seeing Canobie's list of spinning mice made me feel queasy. That's not a figure of speech - I'm talking about an actual physical reaction deep in my gut to seeing so many JASSM's listed in one place, I genuinely feel queasy.
Just look at it. Vom city. ???

  5. Spinning Coaster (Buwalda-Travelling)
I think these may actually be my most ridden coaster model...

But what does your spinning mouse count look like?
After a new park visit in October, I have a new entry, taking my total to 6 (new in bold)...
  1. Primeval Whirl - Left (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)
  2. Primeval Whirl - Right (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)
  3. Crazy Coaster (South Pier Blackpool)
  4. Ice Mountain (Mellors-Travelling)
  5. Spinning Coaster (Buwalda-Travelling)
  6. Monkey Mayhem (West Midlands Safari Park)
That now officially makes Reverchon spinners my most ridden coaster model...

Well lockdown has only increased the amount of sh*te coasters on the count through lots of cred runs, whether I could conclusively call all of these sh*te I'm not sure
Anyhow that means 3.317% of my cred's are 'travelling' spinners

1. Ice Mountain - Fantasy Island
2. Spinning Coaster - Danta's Travelling
3. Crazy Coaster - South Pier
4. Twistosaurus - Flamingoland
5. Magic Mouse - Brean
6. Crazy Mouse - Funland/Stoke WWonderland
7. Crazy Mouse - Brighton Pier

Just focussing on the "basic" spinning mices, so no Gerstlauer, Mack & Maurer Spinner on the list.

Traveling:
Wild Mouse (aka Christmas Coaster) (Bufkens)
Crazy Mouse (Janßen)
Heidi - the Coaster (Schneider)
Spinning Coaster XXL (Buwalda)
Raton Vacilon (purple track) (Banuls)

Parks:
PowerPark (Fabbri)
Energylandia (SBFVisa)
Fun Spot America (Zamperla)
Coney Island Luna Park (Zamperla)

-> 9/429 -> 2%

Both Spinners at Animal Kingdom were closed during my visit.
