Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

Eight Trains of eight people? How many trains does Saw have running at a time? Is it six? Two loading, two unloading and two on the track? Or is it less? I know that they wanted a high capacity system which is why it struggled so much on opening because the timing wasn't working properly.

We know this has two blocks in the open, with the "secret bit" you could have another two blocks (one in the rotator, one waiting to go in) and then four trains in the station?

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

This is sounding more promising than ever, I hope I can take their word for it and it truly delivers like they say. I like how they mentioned "It has been 14 years since our last really iconic ride.", because thats exactly what I was ranting about several pages back, I really thought Alton was heading in the wrong direction with Rita and Th13teen, they needed something to kick their game up. And I hope to God, this is the answer to it, this might be the UK's 'Maverick', or might just be another unfortunate 'Saw: The Ride', but whatever it is, it's something to keep our hopes up for!

I'm guessing now that they've said that it's 3 times longer than Oblivion in length, and 3 times longer than Rita in ride time, does make me wonder about the block brakes, it definately won't be stopping and starting. Now that it has a capacity of 64 riders per ride... I've taken my cards off of it being Anubis/Dare Devil Dive style Gerstlauer...

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

God I really don't want to get too hyped up about it but that's marketing that's building this ride up for a mighty fall if they don't get it right.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

"64 passengers on each ride" must just be misworded by Newspaper. There cant be a 64 person train....

Anyway, I think I agree with Kebab, I am liking the approach that the Towers are taking this time around. Whilst they're going to hype it up (obviously), this is completely different to Thirteen IMO. With Thirteen, we knew what the layout was like, and we all thought it was quite 'meh', but with Alton banging on about it being the ultimate coaster etc, needing health checks etc, most of us were getting intregued by what the 'secret' to Thirteen would be - then followed the disappointment.

Again, this time around, we've seen the layout, but I think on the whole most of us agree that it looks pretty decent. At least 8 inversion, a few air time hils, vertical lift, some big drops, possible duelling element, and another 'secret' element.

The hype they gave Thirteen would suit this coaster IMO.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

I'm not getting excited until I see shipping containers... Not containing the track bits, but the theming ;)

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

Ugh, going by the speed/height they gave in the newspaper article, this is looking like a **** Gerst. This has a drop of 97ft and top speed of 53mph. There is Eurofighter with a 95ft drop and top speed of 52mph.

And for the record, Colossus has a 98ft drop, and only reaches 45mph. So I think its pretty safe to say this will have small cars. :(

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

Or maybe it's likely due to the fact it was named as a Gerstlauer Eurofighter right from the very start? ;)

Its not Eurofighter, though. ;)

Permission to quote that in the not too distant future ;)

Yeah, that really didn't tell us anything new... haha.

Saw has 8 trains. 4 in load/unload. 2 in holding/Inside section and 2 in lift/outside section/ final brakes.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

8 trains of 8 people then, there's the 64 riders at a time :)

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

I think Furie is right. It's got standard Eurofighter trains. :(

The one thing I've clung too all along was that even if it was a Gerst, it would gave different trains - perhaps like Dare Devil, perhaps something we haven't seen before. I bet the 6 seaters would have just impeded capacity too much to consider, which is more than fair enough.

And with that, I bet the lapbar rumour is false.

Saw, Speed and even Mystery Mine are ruined by the car design. This won't be any different.

I just hope Phil's wrong. Or its got lapbars. Or they've amended the train so it can follow the track without flipping juddering.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

Same views as Joey tbh.

For me it does not matter what the secret part is or how many times it inverts its going to be just like Saw and every other Eurofighter. They just all ride the same :(

I just hope there is extra padding for them fake inlines.

It's a shame that Alton feel they are giving us something that is great.

Yes I know some people like them.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

To be fair, Fluch von Novgorod has those trains and that ride is actually fun. Going to join in on the being gutted that it hasn't got the Anubis/Lynet/DDD style trains though <///3 LAME ALTON THE HELL YOU DOING GETTING A EUROFIGHTER THORPE GOT ONE 4 YEARS AGO NOW YOU SONS OF BITCHES GOD.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

See, it's still not 100% confirmed. It's still in the realms of "all available information strongly suggests Gerstlauer Eurofighter with standard Eurofighter trains".

So there is still a chance for something else, it's just exceptionally unlikely.

I guess the reason I've always been quite adamant on supporting the Gerstlauer thing is simply because then you know absolutely what the situation is. I came to terms with it all those months ago and so I've not got any disappointment. It is what it has always been.

Now, if I turn up in April next year (or, let's face it, we'll know every nut and bolt by December) and it's something else, something better, then I'm going to be surprised and happy.

As it is at the moment, it's a ride that is a complete mixed bag. It's a (*enthusiast*) poor ride, yet it's a proper thrill coaster that we've been calling out for from Alton for years. We KNOW it has 8 inversions, it's a "proper coaster".

So as much as we may dislike the ride type, it's still a good installation and it says "Merlin are willing to put in thrill rides". The public will love the ride (in the "we only go to a theme park once a year and ride half the coasters anyway" way they do), and the scale of it and the look of it is a real seller.

I've been saying all of this since the plans were first released though - it just is what it has always been - meh, yet a brilliant move at the same time. I just wish, just really wish, they sold it on the strength of the actual ride, rather than the bloody stupid "world's first" bollocks.

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

They have to sell it on the worlds first though Furie, as there is nothing else to sell it on :).

What are they going to say, you've all done Saw well here's the same ride at Alton but with more inversions.

I thought with The Swarm they had learnt but nope. Saying that people at work don't like Swarm they prefer Stealth and Saw even though they find Saw too rough.

Most guests can't tell the difference between Nemesis and Air. In fact, I'll be most guests can't understand why you would want to go to Alton to Ride Nemesis when Blackpool has Infusion which is the same thing, only Blackpool have got that "Big Thing" too.

A similar ride type at Thorpe means nothing to most people. So yes, they can still sell it on "8 inversions of thrilling coaster". As you say, people find Saw rough but love it. A lot of people love Rita too even though it's cripplingly awful. Most people just really don't care , they want a faster, bigger and loopier!

Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st

Yep I agree with you there, which is why they don't need this top secret stuff.

They could just say world record beater and that's enough.

Am sure the public will love it anyway.
