Camelot - Closed for good

Nah, I think people always over-estimate how much shipping costs. We regularly have containers in from China and it doesn't push the product costs up much at all (they're our cheapest product line). We also make regular shipments of marble from Hastings to America and again, it doesn't make the product too expensive for the Americans to buy.

We also know here, that B&M ship from Europe to America for the US coasters (though not all of it). I don't know exact costs, but I think that having a shipping container as part of a massive load going across the seas is really a tiny cost compared to production and construction.

I just don't see any of the substantial stuff from Camelot staying in the UK, I just can't see where it'd fit! I know people keep saying LWV but I doubt after their grave robbing sesh from Loudon Castle that they need much of the leftovers from Camelot. Maybe Knightmare, but I don't know. I reckon a random European park will snatch that up and we'll never hear from it again.

Bit devastated that the petrol powered coaster will be extinct though <//3

If they never went for Twist and Shout, I really can't see them going for Knightmare unfortunately.

They only really have 2 substantial rides, Whirlwind and Knightmare. I can see Whirlwind staying in the uk (Pleasure Island or Pleasurewood), but I reckon Knightmare will be off to another part of the world.

I think the LWV comments were a joke more than anything. Well, mine were anyway!

I think we might see Knightmare land on the scrap heap to be honest. It's one of those awkward rides that's too big for a tiny park to take on, isn't really anything a medium sized park could sell to it's guests as being anything special, and a large park wouldn't touch it with a barge pole because it's old, knackered and probably hard to maintain/get parts for. I do actually think it's fun, but it's basically a big pile of metal without much going for it.

As dire as Whirlwind is, it would be a good buy for a smaller park wanting to pull a few people in with the whole 'OMG IT SPINS!' thing. If nowhere in the UK wants it, it'll go somewhere. Same with the 2 kiddie coasters probably.

Petrol cred will be no more <///3.

What flats did they even have? I remember a couple of awful, ghetto 80s things. Eugh. They'll blates end up somewhere <////3.

I heard today there's still a very dim chance someone could take over the park. The housing estate is by no means a certainty as planning permission will have to be re-applied for and there's a quite a large local campaign against it.

But despite that, I don't really see Camelot re-opening.

And it's a one-of-a-kind that first operated at Kobe Portapialand in Japan. Let's hope there's a buyer for Knightmare.

I've not been on it but can it travel if so maybe a German fair might buy it?

From what people have said its not that good anyway.

Yeah, if you were a park and bought the coaster, I wouldnt hold my breath on using, "it's a one-of-a-kind that first operated at Kobe Portapialand in Japan." As a PR piece…

Guys - you're missing the point. Knightmare is a Schwarzkopf! They are renowned for being the best coasters in the world and all enthusiasts must sacrifice their first-born child at the entrance to their nearest Schwarzkopf coaster.

If you're interested in revisiting some of the spelndid attractions at Camelot and can't wait until they appear at LWV, we've uploaded videos of them to CF's YouTube channel.

Hahahaha. Your post about Schwarzkopf REALLY sums it up. Enthusiasts rave over them, when in reality, Knightmare is completely mediocre and dull.

Bleh. I'm not a fanboy, but Knightmare is an excellent coaster, easily in my UK top ten. The 'psycho drop' is very intense, and the high-speed ground-level slaloming at the end is pretty damn wild. :)

What flats did they even have?

Think they only had really basic stuff, plus that Excalibur contraption. I imagine most little things like that will probably end up down the road at Southport

Not sure if anyone else picked up on it but it just occurred to me that there are now potentially two disused Schwarzkopf coasters left in the UK starting to gather dust.
Knightmare-Camelot
Twist n' Shout-Loudoun

Funnily enough both rides have had homes at Camelot over the years. Twist and Shout was once the 'Tower of Terror' before it was relocated to Margate.

Hope at least one of these rides gets re-homed. I have not been on Knighmare myself but it seems like a decent ride from what I can hear and see.

^That's a good point actually. For anyone thinking that Knightmare will be snapped up by some other park, the fact that Twist 'n' Shout is still for sale (I think?) suggests otherwise.

Twist 'n' Shout actually has an easier, more compact layout to just slap into an existing park as well.

Twist and shout was in a right state when we rode it 5 years ago, I hate to think what's its like now.

Just randomly decided to have a brief look at TT. I don't know if this is true but was not surprised to hear that the park only leases their rides and that Knightmare is only on a five year lease which ends in December.
Again I don't know how reliable this source is but I thought I might as well mention it. If this is true though, it would seem Knightmare going to another UK park is even more unlikely.
I never rode it so I don't know how good it actually was but it did look pretty cool, if not a bit old.

As for Twist N' Shout, last time I saw that was in 2003 when it was operating as the Looping Star. It was pretty good back then but who knows what it is like now.
