Chinese learn a new way to eat fish...

Listen, you guys are saying I'm missing your points, but you're totally missing mine. I accept that it's what they do. I accept they eat dogs, I accept they eat cats, but I don't LIKE it. I DON'T like their culture, but it's what they do and I understand they don't find it wrong. I do though, and I'd never do it.

So because YOU don't like it, you think people should die a horrible death? Not liking somethnig is fine, but then saying people deserve to die because you disagree with them is somewhat extreme... Like those who committed the 9/11 attorcities?

Joey, I don't agree with everything just because it's culturally different - I don't agree with bull fightng or fox hunting for instance.

You seem to miss the point that this is a way of consuming food, something we all do day in and day out. To me, it's a much less cruel way of killing a fish than the fish I eat. So this way is preferable.

I have never (and don't intend to) mutilate any females I know... Though I have had female rabbits neutered... I guess that makes me just as bad ;)

I just think it's disgusting that people could laugh at it. It was more of an analogy to say, how would they like to die like that?

Do those of you who think the Chinese should be allowed to do this to fish, or the Spanish allowed to bull fight, think that the mid-African cultural tradition of female circumcision should be allowed to go on? For example.

Just curious.

Like I already said, it is not my place to say what is right or wrong in a culture. Sure, to me those things do seem barbaric, as does the fish, but it still is not my place to say it's wrong and we should stop it etc etc, because to do so is just bowing to the elitist and ignorant Western ideology that our way of doing things is the only way.

Sorry, but for some inexplicable reason, my point has been missed:

This is not a traditional, cultural, typical, Chinese dish.

I can see that the argument has gone beyond the original video, but people are now assuming that that one, single, solitary video, most likely taken in a restaurant which was trying something new, now represents a "traditional" Chinese meal.

If this were the case, we would have seen countless videos before. Yes, by (hypocritical) Western standards, the Chinese are far from on the forefront of animal rights, but this ONE video, taken in ONE restaurant is not indicative of a "normal" Chinese meal.

To argue "cultural difference" based on ONE video, is, in itself, labelling an entire nation.

The arguments here are valid, in terms of the general issue, but not using that video as a basis.

Is throwing dogs off cliffs a "cultural" Lithuanian sport?

I don't think everyone assumes that this is the traditional way the Chinese eat fish, I just think the topic has digressed that way using the fish video as a springboard.

^^Well.. there ya go. But.. on to the retard..

Oh okay, so 9/11 was right because the terrorists believed it was right.

Taylor, read this.

Likewise, I don't believe in terrorism, but I respect the fact that they would sacrifice their life for something they believe in.. however wrong and stupid it may be.

Being respectful isn't the same as believing in something, not by any means.

Wait.. lets read this again, and then bold the part which you seem to miss while reading.

I RESPECT the fact that a human being would die for something they believe in.. THAT IS IT.

Ok.. read that? Ok. Good. Never.. did I ever say it was right. You are putting words into my mouth trying to prove a point which you don't have.. and you fail to realize that you are completely incorrect.. like always.

Jesus ****ing christ.

I know for a fact you wouldn't do it, because it would be putting TAYLOR in harm's way - and if there's one thing I've learned in this topic, it's that you only stand up for things as long as they don't cause an inconvenience to yourself.

Yes, you're right, I don't stand up for myself or things I think are wrong/right. Exactly right. You don't even KNOW me so stop just making assumptions.

For your whole "limp out of this topic with a shred of dignity".. I have all my dignity because I said what I thought, and whether you agree with it or not, I don't care.

And Marcus, you can stop arguing just because your stupid bum buddy is on my case.

I saw a video once with some failed suicide bomber in tears because he had failed God.

Poor guy. On so many levels.

^Religion.. does so many stupid things to people..

Or how about you finally provide some common sense to posting for once? My response had nothing to do with UC at all.. moreso the fact that you are an idiot.

^ Yah, I'm an idiot because I think eating a half alive fish is wrong. I'm an idiot because I have an opinion JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

You can **** off, I'm tired of you too.

Official "moderator" response: Please don't resort to name calling/take it to PMs etc...

Unofficially: Can you just wait 5 minutes while I microwave some popcorn?

Either way: Thanks!

Gah! Thats nasty! Surely the chinese animal rights don't allow that! Oh well just set peta on them! ^^ As a vegetairian I don't see why people would want to do this!

^^ No, I'm just tired of the fact that 90% of people can do something (in this topic, post their opinion that they think it's disgusting), and the second that I post my opinion, I have people telling me I'm an idiot.

^^Yeah, it is surprising given that China is usually at the forefront of global animal rights initiatives.

^I agree that the name calling isn't necessary, and that you should have the same right to an opinion as everyone else.

However, your initial, knee-jerk reaction is hypocritical given that you have no problem eating fish yourself, especially since those fish will have suffered more than the fish in the video, and that you have no problem accepting a paycheck from McDonalds.

I'm not having a go at you for either one of those things, but perhaps you should take another look at your initial reaction to the video in light of the bigger picture?

It's the way you're going about it. You're just being adamantly against it without considering the oposing side.

Surely as a vegetarian, you can't understand why anyone would want to eat meat? Dead or not?

So, I bet all the other people who didn't like the video eat fish too. I didn't know how the fish I eat are killed, and now that I do, no, I'll admit I'm not going to stop eatign fish but I'm not gonna degrade the fish and poke at it and laugh while I'm eating it.

I also didn't know the McDonalds things until I watched the video. Am I gonna quit? No, because then I'm not gonna have a car, a phone, and whatever else; yet the chicken abusing will still happen. I bet a lot of people in here think for example, sweat factories and child slavery is wrong too, yet I bet they're not gonna stop buying things from the factories that actually use child slavery. Just because people think it's wrong, doesn't mean they have to change their whole lives to stop it, when in the long run, you not eatig fish or you not buying products from sweat factories isn't gonna do ****.

Atleast the people in the video didn't shame the fish by covering it in luminous orange breadcrumbs.

Wow someone in China ate a fish when it was alive..therefore ALL Chinese are like that...WTF where's that logic from?!
