London, capital of England.
Valletta, capital of Malta.
Madrid, capital of Spain.

Belfast, capital of Northern Ireland

I didn't go into Dublin in the end so can't count it!

Now that I've been to Ireland and Finland I'll rank them in order of how much I liked them.

Sweden - Stockholm
Finland - Helsinki
Italy - Rome
Germany - Berlin
Spain - Madrid
England - London
Ireland - Dublin
Netherlands - Amsterdam
France - Paris
Belgium - Brussels

I honestly don't remember much from Bern in Switzerland, so I won't rank that.

^ Bern is quite fab. Glad to see Brussels at the bottom of your list. Worst European capital after Podgorica. F**king dump.

Helsinki above Rome, Madrid and Amsterdam though? Helsinki?

To be fair, I have a thing for Northern European cities :p I've never really liked Amsterdam. It's just so brown and bland. I adore Rome for the historical side, but didn't find the atmosphere particularly good. I think I need to go back to Madrid. I liked it, but I didn't spend as much time there as some of the other cities.

Admittedly there isn't much to do in Helsinki for tourists, but I really liked just having a walk around the city. It's quite colourful, nice atmosphere and I really like the main Cathedral. I really just had a good relaxed time there. I also like how there were hardly any tourists and how it was relatively quiet compared to other capital cities. It felt more genuine and chilled out. I could say the same about Tampere, which I also really liked.

^ Nice to hear that there's still a European capital city that isn't overflowed by tourists (or at least one from an EU member, I can't imagine places like Minsk or Chisinau being too crowded). Even Ljubljana has got pretty bad in recent summers (gladly it's not year round like Paris or Rome). :D

Ottawa, Canada
Washington D.C, America
London, England
Bratislava, Slovakia
Prague, Czech Republic
Vienna, Austria
Rome, Italy
Budapest, Hungary
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Zagreb, Croatia
Paris, France
Amsterdam, the Netherlands
Belgrade, Serbia
Berlin, Germany
Vatican City (it's actually technically listed as a capital city on lists, so it gets counted)

I think that's it. Not bad. I should be getting a few more on my cruise in January :)

Not really that many. There are a few countries (Spain, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Holland) that I've visited but not been to the capital of.

I can't really be bothered to do the state capitals. I think I've been through (either as a layover when flying, or driving) quite a few, but not more than a handful.
Added [strike]two[/strike] three more in the last few weeks:

Dublin, Ireland
Stockholm, Sweden
Copenhagen, Denmark

Probably the only new ones I'll get this year - I don't see myself getting any more before next summer.
