What's new

Kolmården's Djurpark | Wildfire | RMC Wooden Coaster

I'm confident it will look amazing when finished, it's currently like looking at a half built mansion with just the brick walls gone up.
It's a big move from Outlaw Run and Lightning Rod which are all wooden structure, maybe ECG could get an insight into the structural reasoning.

The most recent renderings show that wood will be set inside the steel structure, to make it look like a typical woodie lift. Gotta say, the view of this thing from the skyline will look menacing.

The steel structure will have the supporting functionality, I think the wood is just for effect, although there are some footers in the below image, there are a lot less than you would see for a traditional wooden structure. Maybe they realised no footers are actually required for the wood and will just cross tie the beams.
Or they could be removing the wood altogether, we should know within a week or so either way.

Any excuse for another pic :)

The wood in the lift structure have been shelved, as it looks now the structure will only be wood on the panoramic curve on the top of the cliff.

It's such an odd decision? Like, it's gonna look so odd. Big steel structure, wooden tower, big steel structure. I don't get it

To be fair, Goliath doesn't look bad with a similar structure. It is unique but given the possible building surfaces below it, I can see it being the business decision as it's most likely cheaper in both the short and long term.

Looking fantastic! I especially love the shot at 1:28 of the track going through the support structure.

Having to build on sheer rock is difficult for any structure. I worked with a high ropes design company that was trying to determine the best way to spec a mountainous area that had little to no top soil, which created problems with how to build climbing structures that required proper placement and footers. An advantage to building with steel over wood is its greater inherent strength, which requires less supporting structure. This means you can build taller in a given area with less of a footprint than building with wood.

Just taking a look at the geography which Kolmarden is dealing with, it comes as no surprise that real estate is at a premium. For the initial lift hill, has Kolmarden confirmed that they are scraping wood all together? With the supplemental steel structure they have added since then initial rendering, I wouldn't help but imagine the wood serves as only added aesthetic.

As for the juxtaposition of wood vs. steel, I quite like the appeal.

I'm slightly disappointed that it will be a Goliath structure, but it's still going to be out of this world incredible.

New video, track is on the lift hill.

Station video, focusing on theming. There's a few seconds showing a fully tracked lift hill :)

A month to go for the projected opening date, an there are no pictures surfacing of the track after the zero g cross under, starting to doubt the 18th June date now.

Love how they've made it look like RMC are doing the theming, when it's in fact Jora Vision... Lol.

This has surfaced;

acedfe Where will it be located on the layout?
wildfirekolmarden Hey @acedfe ! It will be in the valley, after the turn back to the drop point. We can post more pics this week so you can get a better view of the location?
savage.coasters @wildfirekolmarden directly after the zero g stall?
wildfirekolmarden Yes Thats right @savage.coasters

Keeps getting better. Also this for Lofty, as I know he loves these...
