Steel Curtain - Kennywood

I loved it. Probably slots in around 15-20 - higher if the front was the only experience (lots of rattle in the back but not inherently uncomfortable). Pacing / elements are a 10. As far as Dravies designs - liked it more than lightning run, maxx force; less than wildcats revenge (no ArieForce…yet). Kennywood is a criminally underrated park.

I had 6 new creds today as i visited Canada Wonderland!

Technically my last ride of the day was Leviathan, which was also my favourite! Immediately in my top 10, just a classic B&M with the smoothness, the roar, the speed and just the right level of intensity. I would have ridden it again but it was 37C and it felt like someone was holding a hair dryer to my eyes going round (i was front row to make matters worse). I think it's also both the tallest and fastest coaster i've ever been on.

Cannot imagine what going on Falcon Flight in 45C is like at the moment.

My last new coaster was

Matterhorn Blitz - they definitely didn't need to go all out with the queue animatronics. The ride itself is pretty standard wild mouse fare. I did love the thrill lift instead of a traditional one. The theming puts it over the top for me.

Rode Konect at Särkänniemi yesterday!

I already knew coming into it that it was a bit tall and fast for a "junior" coaster model but when you're there in real life and see this almost 30m tall coaster with all these direction changes and such it's a bit more imposing than you'd think! It does look really cool twisting above the paths right by the water.

The narration on ride is fun and the queue line is also surprisingly themed for Särkänniemi which loves to theme rides with concrete and paint (besides their Koiramäki area which is separate admission but very nice), it's like a museum through Tampere and Särkänniemi's history, although some props are really random and unrelated. In the same display case there are old wristbands for Särkänniemi as well as random toy cars, for example.

As a ride, fantastic family coaster. Quite thrilling actually! Especially in the back. Lots of speed, getting pulled over hills and all the quick directional changes are like something out of an Intamin thrill coaster but toddlers are allowed on. In Finland we don't really have custom big family coasters like this, so this is a welcome addition to our coaster scene.

I do really wish they had a second train though. The queues reached 45 minutes at times, which is a bit silly for Särkänniemi. Those are Taiga queue times on a busy day at Linnanmäki.

------------------------------------------

Not a new cred, but I haven't ridden a Skyrocket II since last I rode Hype, and being on it again I still don't hugely like them. I had more fun this time, but the trains are still just so absurdly bad that it takes away so much from the experience. The shin guard forces your legs to sit under the seat, they're impossible to get in and out from and you're getting squeezed from the side that the hangtime on the rolls isn't even that hangtime-y. With Maurer Skyloop restraints it'd be insane.

Also Särkänniemi's Skyrocket II has prob the worst capacity of any Skyrocket II in the world, simply because before EVERY SINGLE DISPATCH they play a 27 second (I timed it on my watch) pre-recorded announcement only after everyone's restraints have already been checked and they're ready for dispatch. "Dear guests. The launch is very intense. Please hold on to the bar and keep your head back during the whole ride, and keep your arms and legs inside the train at all times. Have a good ride" spoken slow in two languages. It's completely unnecessary! Weirdly almost all rides at Särkänniemi had unnecessary announcements like that extending dispatch times, like the flat rides they'd announce when they're coming to check the restraints. WHY?!

Just got 5 new credits at Liseberg so will review all of them in an exhausting fashion 😂

Valkyria: I used to like dive coasters, I thought Oblivion's drop was kickass and thought the model was fun. Then I rode Valravn, and I started to realize that the model is actually kind of mid, especially with the vest restraints. Airtime is minimal, and the drop looks a lot scarier than it rides.

Valkyria was about what I was expecting- it's better than Valravn because it's a lot smoother, it rides glass smooth. But force wise it's pretty forgettable and blah. Overall I would rank it as the 4th best ride in the park? The layout is fair after the launch, but in dive coaster fashion it is just kind of floaty and dull.

Lisebergbanan:
I went into this one with a general expectation to like it, and that is absolutely how I left this coaster. It's long, has a unique layout, has great interactions with other rides, and just overall has a epic presence across the top end of the park. The ride has a few intense moments but is mostly tame and fun. The park also run tons of trains so the queue moves fast!

Balder:
This one blew my expectations away! I'm a massive airtime person, and Balder was just amazing for it. The ride is a little repetitive, and the ride definitely runs out of steam at the end. But overall the ride is very smooth, has great airtime, and is fun. A brilliant 2nd for the park.

Helix:
Some say this is overrated, some say it's underated, it's rough, it's smooth. I've heard so many different opinions lol. But overall I adore Helix, it has an amazing layout, presence, and a great variety. It has a few grey out moments, airtime, amazing inversions, and everything you could want. One of my favourite coasters, though not as good as some other Mack Rides (RtH, Voltron, Hyperia). But those rides I just listed are also amazing.

Luna:
Eh. It's a cool setting. During a very busy day at Liseberg it can feel kind of ridiculous (terrible throughput lol) it's nothing too offensive though. I much prefer The Quest as far as Boomerangs go

An very thorough and in depth review of Monster at Walygator Grand Est

B&M inverts are admittedly not quite my kind of ride, positive forces are one of the less important things in a coaster for me. However, Monster is an undeniably fantastic coaster, no matter your preferences. Until this year, it was completely devoid of theming and the station was completely uncovered. For the 2026 season, the queue line and area leading up to it were redone. There is now some sort of vague mine theme and the turnaround into the lift hill has been repainted to a bright green that stands out from the faded pink/white colour of the rest of the track. Now that Aspro have removed the money loosing Oakwood from their portfolio (😥), they seem to be investing more in their other parks, Walygator seems to be on the up.

The operations on Monster are abysmal. The park owns two trains but only ever runs one at a time. This would be fine on it's own with the parks generally low crowds, but the loading procedure is what really dampens the capacity. The previous train of riders must leave their seats, collect their bags and completely leave the station before a grouper starts letting people into the station to queue at the air gates. Once a train full of people are waiting at the air gates, they will open them and people can finally take their seats on the train. I timed a couple dispatches, and they were averaging a little over 5 minutes (this means the train is waiting in the station for longer than it's actually cycling the layout), giving a capacity of less than 300 riders per hour when accounting for empty seats. For a layout that's capable of hitting 1600 RPH, this is infuriating. I'm sure there is some reason for the loading procedure, although it isn't present on the park's other rides. The ride ops seem to be doing their best, but if Aspro want to work on improving their parks, fixing the capacity on their biggest park's biggest attraction seems an easy win.

The pre ride experience thankfully does not effect the actual ride. It isn't rough at all, but I wouldn't say it's particularly smooth. There is the slightest of vibrations through the ride, but it's barely noticeable and doesn't take away from the experience at all. The first drop is nothing to write home about, but you do get some floater airtime in the middle of the train. The pull out and subsequent vertical loop provide sustained strong positives, this was a grey out moment on all 7 of my rides. The zero-g roll is very whippy, while I personally prefer floaty zero-g rolls (the one on the swarm is one of my all time favourite elements) this is still a strong element. The transition into the cobra roll is slightly janky, I think there's a small section of straight track, but I love it. It's part of that old school B&M charm that you don't get on their newer rides. The cobra roll itself has great whip in and out and strong sustained force, with a slight lull in the middle. The rise into the mid course and the actual mid course is a bit of a dead spot, offering no real force. The trims on the mid course were removed when the ride was relocated from Expoland, making the 2nd half of the ride absolutely haul. The drop off the mid course offers strong laterals as it turns to the right, and the pull out gives more strong force. Both corkscrews are very whippy, although the turn between them is another slight dead spot. The final helix is incredibly strong and another grey out moment for me.

Overall, Monster is pretty much everything you could want in a B&M invert, strong positives, whip and mainly good pacing. It's just lacking in theming and good operations and has a couple of dead spots. It's my favourite Invert I've been on so far, but Oziris has a chance to beat it when I get on it soon.
9/10, it's number 10 on my list, just behind Goliath and ahead of Stealth.

Good Gravy- Holiday World- New Credit

It's so cute. And its-- hilarious. Like... they went all-out on something they absolutely didn't have to. They spared no expense on the entire area, the queue theming, and coster theming. The ride itself is made so much better because of the way the park cared about how it was presented. Family boomerang- who really cares- it's not thrilling, but it's a must ride because of everything they did with it. Ride it in the back (handle) and the front (spout)- I think the front is better. Feels a bit faster.

Bonus---The Voyage- Hadn't ridden since 2017

**Recency bias**.... but it was maybe the best ride I've ever had on a rollercoaster in my life. It was a rainy day-- Last row---and it really started coming down on us after the turn around... and it was just completely mental riding back down the terrain getting soaking wet. I was laughing hysterically. I'm reconsidering where it lands in my top ten. Dare I say it's gotten better with age? It did not disappoint. simply incredible. Worth the drive. Go ride it.

Went to Great Adventure yesterday. Only new credit was:

Flash: Vertical Velocity have to say in the back it's a very fun ride! More forceful than anticipated, good pacing and good duration. Of course this comes at the cost of capacity but well...either be there at gate drop or use a one time fast pass if ya got it. I also liked its unique layout, the hangtime, a fun interesting and unique ride! My second ride got a rollback which was fun. Thankfully its a fairly comfortable restraint so sitting there for a bit wasn't so bad.

Not new of course but gotta say El Toro has gotten rough. And I got good tolerance for that but wow...not sure if this type ride can be retracked but its age is showing, and for something that big and fast... ouch. Still fun, intense, the airtime remains some of the best but damn...one and done. Hope they can do something about it.

Crazy Coaster at Jacqou Parc, France. Literally 5 minutes from our campsite or I wouldn't have gone. Such a weird parc, genuinely good water slides, knackered old theme park rides. The pirate ship made dodgy noises and literally hit a tree at the top of it's swing. As for the coaster, not sure I've seen a track with lichen on it before. Zero theming, operator walked into the middle dodging trains when I lost my hat. Not very health and safety but hey, he was nice and I got my hat back! Coaster is a old fabbri spinner. Been on plenty of fairground spinners but maybe not one of the proper fabbris before. Doesn't do a lot, no big drops, not many wild mouse corners, pretty janky. But you know, still a coaster, still fun.

Our first time riding Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland Paris. In my opinion, this is the best themed rollercoaster ever made. The layout is just incredible, from the immediate drop into the tunnel, the multiple lift-hills, the splashdown, the views everywhere and the final exhilarating tunnel return it's a coaster that builds and builds rather than peaks and gradually fizzles out. Every time we rode it i noticed something new in the scenery. The fact they built this gigantic mountain in a lake and tunnelled under it is quite frankly ridiculous. It takes working with your terrain to another level. Is it a little janky in places? Certainly but it doesn't stop it being infinitely re-rideable. A treasure of the theme park industry, it must never be replaced.

Went to Parc de la Vallee in Loire Valley France as was about 45 minutes from where we were staying. Went mainly for the old Schwarzopf Jet Star Bobsleigh. Small queues for summer, 5 or 10 minutes. Very odd seating position wh where adults in front of children on shared in line bench, looked pretty squashed! Lift hill is electric spiral so no clanking. First drop is decent for the size, feels like a heart in mouth, hint of air moment. Then the helixes pack a punch. Very janky but well padded so manageable. Break is ludicrously harsh. All in though, quite fun, packs a reasonable punch for the footprint, long may it continue.

In the same park is a Togo coaster Grand Canyon that's essentially a large butterfly but with a proper train. Whilst the train makes it more unambiguously a coaster than a butterfly, it also means it does nothing at all. No force, no fun. Pointless notwithstanding novelty value.

The park also has a nautic jet, that I'm on the weight limit of so nearly tipped backwards, delighted to tick that ride off. It also has a contraption called Western Luge, that resembles going down hill in a bathtub a la Last of the Summer Wine. Quite good fun.

Few other bits and bobs, all in all a fun few hours with some unusual rides. Also park restaurant did quite decent food.

Iron Menace: Finally a dive without a MCBR! This is what I always said they should do and finally they're getting with the program. First ride on one and no doubt it's an improvement as it doesn't just kill all the speed then meander around the rest, but this one is so short! It had some force, but not sure I'd call it forceful, again it's like close but not quite there, wish it was a bit taller/faster or the elements were tighter. That said, a solid ride and found it fairly non rattly. I know we all have different tolerances but IDK...if its just people being somewhat biased what they see on YT videos (who all seem to make the rattle like 1/3 of their content) I thought it really wasn't that bad at all. Even the last turn, maybe it was mental prep but was ready to feel like a washing machine, was fine lol Probably a 7/10 just wish it had a little more length or punch to it.

Afterburn: I was in Charlotte for work travel, and able to pop into Carowinds to pick up some favorites for an evening. Fury was sadly down with the footer issue, but glad to got a few good runs on Afterburn; man are those trees growing in nicely to make for really good close calls.

Spent a couple of days at Parc Astérix this week! Some hot takes on the coasters that matter:

Goudurix: 3/10
Beautiful setting, great first drop, cool layout and excellent pacing - but we all know this tracks like ass! Foolishly thought it might be better in the front. It wasn't. Time for a full retrack?

Trace Du Hourra: 3/10
I'd heard this was the best bobsled - I liked the layout, but it was just far too rough for me. Not for the first or last time at this park! Even the drive tyres back into the station felt horrible.

Tonnerre 2 Zeus: 5/10
A tragedy in 2 parts and 3 different manufacturers. The RMC-retracked sections are fantastically floaty and were genuinely some of the best moments I've had on a traditional woodie. Some of the CCI/GG sections are okay, but the potholes are diabolical. Like wouldn't-be-surprised-if-it-derailed diabolical. Actually worse than Coaster Express I think? So a 9 for the good bits and a 1 for the bad bits - let's meet in the middle? Hopefully RMC come back this winter and finish the job to make this one of Europe's top woodies.

Also Zeus' pants now have rubber ducks on them. Just in case you were wondering. Also why is the lift hill so aggressively loud?

Cétautomatix: 6/10
This had some good moments, but I just found it weirdly uncomfortable. Maybe it's the inside-facing seats? Still, a good family coaster and does a lot with a very small footprint.

OzIris: 9/10
Onto the good stuff. Is mini Montu better than regular sized Montu? Not quite, but I reckon it's pretty close. First drop has some delightful airtime and I loved the soaring overbanks - it absolutely flies through them! Only two nitpicks - it could do with being a little bigger and has developed a small rattle. I have it below Katun and Montu but above Nemesis Reborn which I think is fair.

Toutatis: 9/10

Fantastic coaster, don't get me wrong - but just falls short of greatness for me. The section just after the first launch sets the rest of the ride up fantastically and the swing launch (my first one!) was brilliant. Great mixture of floaty and the airtime hills are super intense, especially the sneaky second one going backwards that you forget is there! My problem is predictable - yup, it's that trim on the top hat (or should I say full-on brake). I honestly didn't think I'd hate it as much as I did, but it really just kills what should be a fantastic drop. The stall that comes next doesn't really do anything for me, and whilst all the subsequent elements are amazing, they're the bread in a sandwich that really has no filling. A launched mega coaster without any proper forward elements over 100 feet feels like a waste. And it's not long enough to do a Taron. Have I been overly harsh?

Pégase Express: 9.5/10
Pretty much the perfect family coaster. I was just a bit underwhelmed with the theming in the backwards launch shed, that's pretty much it. The backwards section is super snappy in the back!

I'm really hoping Londinium has some actual air con! Just one room, just somewhere to cool off, please...

Coccinelle at Walygator Sud-Ouest
This was the grand finale on a trip to Parc Asterix, Parque Warner Madrid, Parque de Atracciones de Madrid and Walygator. It's a standard large layout Zierer Tivoli, I quite enjoy these, their slight jankiness but relative comfort and wacky pacing make them preferable to most coasters their size for me. This one had the unique trait of having a roar that could be hear around the park, rivalling that of a B&M. It also has a consistent fast vibration (I'd guess about 100Hz) which probably has the same cause as the roar.
The rest of the park was quite nice, Oakwood's eurofighter wasn't open as I'd hoped but the area around it was. All the paths are in the same places they were at Oakwood so it was quite strange walking around the same area from Wales in a far corner of France. Overall a nicer park than Grand-Est, although it has the weaker ride line-up.

A visit to Le Fleury today with 6 year old. Doesn't warrant a trip report but will briefly mention the park at the start of the last cred review:

Very well presented park, just clean and tidy. Staff had uniforms which I realised made it so much smarter after going to a few small parks without this summer. Also the staff seemed happy, and every single one of them was friendly and helpful. Are we even in France? Really let the country down with their positivity and making the park a pleasant place to be. That's not what I come to France for, I want to be ignored or sneered at.

The parc in general has some theming, an effort has been made. It's not amazing but it helps. Feels like maybe they are expanding their range and improving the theming, though still verymuch a park for younger kids. Very good value and just a nice vibe. Almost a pre-pig Paultons feel. They even have their own, good beer.

I don't want to mislead: this isn't worth a trip but I liked the feel, and think it has potential.

Creds:
The Airplane is awaiting a part, only a Kiddie cred, but was there with daughter so could have got away with it, but sadly no park completion 😔

Bayou Express a zierer Tivoli small. Love that old track, it is very small though. Goes round 3 times, has a bit more zip than you'd expect and isn't uncomfortable. Some theming in the queue. Nice 1st coaster.

Rhaegal I'm not familiar with IE Park but this was a really fun little coaster for the footprint. Reminded me a little of the Schwarzkopf jet star I did recently, though a bit smaller. However a lot more comfortable. Nice heart in mouth first drop, some proper force on the helix, especially at the back. Goes round twice, smooth enough and some effort at Dragon theming. Just quite fun.

430. Hydrus - Casino Pier: really solid Eurofighter. Nothing too crazy, but it's smooth and packs a nice little punch. I wish more Eurofighters had the lapbars over the OTSRs. They really improve the ride experience by a lot

431. Xolo Loco - I rode in the hamster wheel car. It's just as janky as the prototype but the layout is a bit shorter so it's not as rough. The restraints are a lot bulkier so you don't bang your head nearly as much.

432. Pirate's Hideaway - one of the jankier coasters I've ridden. It has a cool facade, the spiral lift is neat and the trains are really intricate, but that's where all the positives stop. The rest of the ride just beats you up. It's not as bad as some coasters I've ridden and it's hilariously janky but not a coaster I have a desire to ride again.

Last park was Fun Spot Atlanta about a month back.
343: ArieForce One: An absolute monster of a ride. Wickedly fast pacing without a single moment of time to breathe, incredibly strong airtime and just an absolute hoot. The arcade roll is easily my favorite element on the ride, it reminds me of the incredible mix of floater and lateral whip of Iron Rattler's ZGR but taken far faster and with wicked headchoppers. The second half of the ride as a whole, just absolutely incredible and one of my favorite sequences on any coaster. Pure brute force intensity and pacing, every hill hits hard and is just incredible. Definitely a front row ride for me but this is common for most RMCs for me. Really hoping that my 9 or 10 rides I got on that day are not my last and that it ends up somewhere else.
344: Sea Serpent: Not really much to say here. I like E&F's hardware for kiddie coasters, they feel much more accommodating to adults than any others but this is a small enough layout that there wasn't much in the way of force.
345: Hurricane: What were they thinking? (complimentary) The tracking in the turns is absolutely hilarious, sounds like a bunch of shopping carts. Some funny airtime but not anything insane on the drops. I expected to not like this but I had a fun time on it.

Went to  DippieDoe in Netherlands today, mainly because I have run out of non-kiddie coaster in day driving distance. It is essentially a soft play with some rides outside, but I have a 6 year old so fine with that. Some Pirate theming, including quite decent crazy golf. Inside a bit warehousey and loud. Outside actually quite pleasant by a lake.

We went on the Wackie Worm Dolle Pier a few times, I've no idea why it's themed to a mine train AND a seamonster, but the latter at least fits the general pirate vibe. Other than that, you know what these are, but kudos to the friendly ride operator, high fiving the kids on the way through the station, and 3 circuits.

For the enthusiast, the only thing here is Tyfoon but for the parent it's basically the only thing not here. Because, it's inexplicably got a 125cm height restriction. Whilst according to RCDB there are two Comet 2s in existence (Vol d'Icare at Asterix and 1 formerly at Flambards), this is the only Comet 1 ever. I wonder if that is because the height restriction is totally out of whack with the ride type. It's reasonably sized for a family ride, and I had fun on the high banked turns, certainly enjoyable enough. But no air and no forces. It also has very harsh breaks and seemed pretty rough I places (eg I grazed my elbow). The height means it's empty so can ride front, then back, as often as you like non stop. It just seems the height restriction means anyone who can ride it is too old to really enjoy it. They really need to fit seatbelts and get the restriction reduced or replace with something that actually fits the park demographic.
