Music Recommendations

Probably my favorite song on the new Muse album. This was recorded with some of the same session artists who recorded "Superstition" with Stevie Wonder, and it creates a really awesome funk vibe that's kind of new territory for Muse.

Overall I think it's a very good album, and I really like how Muse has found ways to diversify their sound and while also sticking to what's worked for them in the past.

I just got this through the post this morning, which I'd completely forgotten I'd preordered a couple of months ago:

It's not a new album exactly, but she's redone a load of older songs with a full orchestra, including new vocals, and they sound **** ing stunning.

It's not exactly a "greatest hits" either, as most of the tracks are just random album tracks rather than singles (apart from Winter and Silent All These Years), so it's clear that she's gone through and selected tracks that would best benefit from an orchestral reworking.

She's doing a one-off concert, with the full orchestra, at the Royal Albert Hall, and I'm gutted that I can't go (weeknight in London) or that she's not bringing it up north. I'm guessing it costs a **** load to pay for an orchestra though. DVD later hopefully...

She is SO airbrushed though

Still need to get her last album that Gavin recommended. Bought Jack White instead, shame on me ;)

^It's a combination of airbrushing and being sliced and tugged beyond all recognition. She looks nothing like she used to anymore.

New Papa Roach album is definitely a good listen! Next up for me is the new Three Days Grace. Some others newish albums that I have enjoyed are:

Adelitas Way
Halestorm
In This Moment
P.O.D.
Aranda

Typically not a fan of female rock singers, but both Halestorm and In This Moment do a really good job.

Lich Kings New Album "Born of the Bomb"

100% old school bay area thrash. They've really raised the bar with this release. Get it ordered now! It's all manner of amazing!

Keep it metal kids! \m//>.<\\m/

I'm going to go ahead and recommend everyone to go out and listen to Alter Bridge. Nao. Why? This.

Blackbird - Blackbird
(EDIT: Btw, this song was actually named by Guitarist magazine to contain the greatest guitar solo of ALL TIME. Amazing considering it beat out Slash, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, just to name a few.)

Rise Today - Blackbird

Words Darker Than Their Wings - AB III

Slip to the Void - AB III

And if you like that, Slash feat. Myles Kennedy (AB's singer) and Mark Tremonti's (AB's guitarist) solo band TREMONTI are pretty darned good too. Search them.

Quite enjoying Mika's new album at the moment.

It's a lot simpler and less quirky than his other two albums, which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you see it. Favourite track at the moment, though it's far from the actual best:

Been listening to a lot of Romanian house recently, and this track's gotten a lot of play in my iTunes library. It's not new by any means, but oh well. It's a beautiful song that just feels great to listen to.

A couple more songs that I've been playing a lot lately:

Tiesto & Allure - Pair of Dice. Pretty repetitive, but insanely catchy. Excellent production quality too, as is always to be expected from one of the world's best DJs.

Bon Iver - Woods (Zeds Dead Remix). Sooooooo chill.

Logic - Beggin'. Love this guy's style. I'm glad to see him starting to get more attention in the rap world, as he's way more talented than a lot of the clowns you hear on mainstream radio these days.

Futurecop! - Transformers (Into the Future). British duo with a really enchanting retro 80's sound. I can't get enough of their music.

Martein Solveig - The Night Out (Madeon Remix). Modern French house at its best, from two of the best producers in the genre.

Two songs that I can't get enough of at the moment.

Firstly, Foals - Inhaler. First track off their new album, and its a massive track. Mega guitar sound on it too, much bigger sound than before.

Secondly, is the new Everything Everything track, Kemosabe, which I just can't get out of my head.

Welcome to 2002. ;) But yes, they are good.

Cyril Hahn has done a few amazing remixes, hoping to see him live in a couple of months.

Just downloaded the new Hollywood Undead album, and I am shocked with what I am hearing. 7 songs in, 2 ballads, both beautiful, and every song is solid. Obviously they will still have the party anthems they are known for, but it's clear they are trying to get radio airtime with this. Speaking with one of the guys in the band (he's basically marrying my "cousin") and he said that was the aim. I had no idea it was going to sound this good. Totally shocked.

Lion and Rain are my favorite so far.
