Ahh yeah saw Slaves at the Big Weekend, they were great! Loved Feed the Mantaray, probably my favourite track they played!

Completely different genre but Ghost are an amazing retro metal band

Edit: Turns out I've been given a ticket to Reading and Ghost are playing :--D :--D :--D

Totally heard this song driving home from work the other day and I love it!

My favourite discovery of the month

Despite this band being a 'kids metal band' they are totally awesome!

Its the post that literally no one has been waiting for - Mouse's Albums of the Year.
In no particular order:

Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
MI0003829258.jpg

This is a very acoustic, sparce album dealing with the death of the artist's mother. The album is very personal and confessional, more so than any other Sufjan Stevens work. Each song is incredibly written and explores his mother's schizophrenia and alcoholism and his childhood, as well as his coming to terms to her death. Beautiful album, one of Steven's best.

Tame Impala - Currents
homepage_large.04192b63.jpg

This album is fairly different to Tame Impala's previous work, as it is very synth led. The production is refined and slick, and the album is solidly consistent with interesting experimentation. Didn't have any expectations of this so was very impressed!

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
f1efb3f4-9a6d-4f78-8ca8-594ab646d198-bestSizeAvailable.jpeg

This one took a while to grow on me. A somewhat unsettling and challenging album with a range of influences and themes. Not sure what else to say, dark and impactful yet a brilliant album.

Chilly Gonzales - Chambers
chilly-gonzales-chambers-160693.png

So this is a selection of pop and rap influenced songs arranged for piano and string quartet. All but one are instrumental and the pop, rap and electronica influences are strong. Each track has been beautifully composed and arranged, although the album is not as impactful as some of Gonzales' previous work.

Jaakko Eino Kalevi (self-titled)
jaakko-eino-kalevi-2015-jaakko-eino-kalevi-lp-vinyl.jpg

I discovered Kalevi through this album, a selection of dream-like tracks dominated by synths and electronic percussion. The production is not totally refined, but in my opinion this adds to the albums trance-like atmosphere. Each track is a self-contained unique soundscape, often with layered eerie vocals.

There's lots more, but they're the ones that stood out for me this year :).

Lets talk about this for a second, be sure to use headphones to listen

Arca is a breakbeat/IDM artist from Brooklyn, a recent discovery and obsession of mine.

I don't know how to describe this without you listening to it myself. Its noisy and seemingly chaotic for the first 3min, think of Aphex Twin with heavy bass. What excellent about this track is that after the intro it all comes together into a really amazing track, its atmospheric, and really like nothing youve heard before

If you like the track I highly recommend the album last year, its one of my favorites from 2015

Heres another track, its a bit shorter

Currently loving this by The Dead Weather. I'm like their general "rough" blues/rock, but this is completely different.

I think it's essentially Alison Mosshart doing a Jack White track (which will be why I like it).

The video is fantastic too

It's a bit different to their usual like (another favourite) Treat Me Like Your Mother from their first album.

I then started searching for the other angles on the band (I already love White Stripes/Jack White, Raconteurs and Queens of the Stone Age - The Dead Weather is a supergroup made from parts of those). There was just Mosshart's The Kills for me to look into and guess what? They're pretty awesome too :)

No Wow

Dead Weather is SO good. Like their new album a lot but Horehound is still their best. When will they tour???

Chris Martin from Coldplay addresses him as the Greatest singer song writer in the world and he's about the only person that Liam Gallagher actually likes. Some think he's an arrogant twat and others praise the ground he walks on. Anyway he's got a new album coming out, last one was 2010 i believe. If you dont know who im talking about its the chap below, arguably one of the most influential people in Britpop. His Cheeks look like they been freshly carved about by a heroin addicts hit spoon.

It's doubtful that they will. They all use it as a vehicle to get away from the stress of their day to day musical careers. Though they do the occasional live appearance.

Earlier last year, I discovered this almost unheard of rock/folk/blues musician called Brian Protheroe. He had a string of singles back in the 70's before he ventured into a more fulfilling career in theatre. I think it's quite a shame that he dropped writing and recording music because a lot of his work was incredibly inspiring. The funky production on this single 'Fly Now' is one of my favourites. The way the bassline and piano weave through Brian's vocals is magical.

Todd Terje's house single 'Inspector Norse' is so upbeat, catchy and well produced. A definite must for any classic house fans out there.

Double post, sue me.

Just wanted to put this out there. Soundtrack for the Channel 4 TV series, Utopia (2013-2014). Probably my favourite TV show soundtrack in the last couple of years. Very mesmerizing, haunting, innovative and so forth. The TV show is up there with the best in my opinion.

Riptide by Vance Joy is a song I recently fell in love with, great vocals, beat and meaningful lyrics. Love it.

Mr. Brightside by the Killers, this song is perfect. One of my favorite songs ever. Great stuff.
[youtubevid]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGdGFtwCNBE[/youtubevid]

But there are times I will listen to rap/hip hop, although I definitely dislike the genre as a whole.
Something about this song I love, I love the hook with the trumpets. **NSFW**

Riptide is a great summer song for me. I usually kind of dislike the sound of ukelele's but Vance does a great job on this song. Very feelgood.

Glad I'm not the only one on this board that listens to them! Saw them in Manchester, huge show. How they play some of those songs live (especially Messenger) is totally unreal. Such great musicians.
