Norway News: TusenFryd 2013 - £5m dark ride

Great video, its looks brilliant.

How long is the arm on it. Once it gets going it really hits some serious speeds and height. I bet the forces are pretty high on it.

^I think the arm is about 24-25 meters long. The structure itself is 27 meters, the riders are 44 meters up in the air at most. The serious speed you're talking about is about 115 kilometers per hour, and the forces are marketed as 4.5G.

Then onto pic and review:

Yeah, that's the only pic of decent quality I have got so far. There are plenty more on my camera, but I can't find the USB cable anywhere.

In short, this ride rocks. But the area around it seems a tad "unfinished". What TusenFryd has done, is basically flattened a forest and plonked the ride in. There are no places in the park where you can photograph the entire ride, unless you know the tricks of that trade. I don't.
So, that flattened forest is fenced off by chain link fence. Then, some grass mats are rolled out, save for a few places near the fences. All in all, it doesn't really look finished. And what's so Spider-y about it? Spin, sure, spider, no.

Then, there's the queueline. It's really short, only one cattlepen, or a single Z-shape if you want to put it like that. There is no sign for the ride yet. I hope they will make one, as basically nothing marks the entrance as of now. I'll say, the queueline holds about 150 people. Even less than SpeedMonster. There are also no places to put your bags, apart from a box near the operator booth. In th efar corner of the area.

Well onto the ride, the OMG-feeling kicks in. You choose a seat (Tip: facing the queue if you fancy looking down a lot), and the operators staple your legs with the harness. At least, my legs were squeezed in them. Most of you will do fine. Then, the swinging starts. You saw the POV.
SpinSpider is forceful. If you've done Rush, you know the feeling when it zooms past the ground. Then double (or whatever) the speed, put on a spin, and you've got a very fun ride. When you're on the very top, try to look upwards even more. The sight of the horizon put the wrong way, and the forest above you, well, it's marvellous. The airtime going down doesn't make the ride worse either.

All in all, it isn't as much of a stomach tickler as the smaller ones (I only have Vortex to compare to), but it makes up for that with forces and views. I think this one is the second best ride in the park, just behind SpeedMonster, and unfortunately miles ahead of poor ThunderCoaster. It made me slightly uneven, but that may be nerves as much as anything else. A great buy from TusenFryd, but I expect them to shine up the area a bit more.

9/10.

Soory to bump this for the umpteenth time, but ScreamScape posted some interesting news today.
http://www.screamscape.com/html/industry_news.htm#GCI
For those of you not wanting to click the link, it basically says that GCI are willing to sell Millennium Flyer trains to put them on any coaster, as long as it meets certain conditions.

Is there hope for ThunderCoaster? TusenFryd's woodie has gotten gradually worse over the years, and it's also been slated for "square-wheeled trains" since its opening. Can this be the comeback for our beloved woodie?
They say "...[if] GCI has properly prepared the wood coaster for their trains"

As you all know, ThunderCoaster was retracked over the past seasons, by GCI themselves. Will next year see a smoother ThunderCoaster? Is there a schance that the airtime can return? In my eyes, TC seems like the perfect candidate, given both the rumours about the park wanting a deal with GCI, and it meets the conditions.

Thoughts? Do anyone care at all?

With good trains, Thundercoaster would probably have taken my number 1 spot two years ago.

So I'm interested, and I hope that they do get them!

^^ That sound's like great news, but I think that GCI might want to remove the last Vekoma/Allott & Lomax transitions from the ride first.

I actually don't know what is so great about the Millennium Flyer trains. They have comfy seats and they're pretty smooth from what I've experienced, but I absolutely can't stand the restraints. They're the most annoying things and they never fail to have me stapled by the end of the ride..

But if it's a really rough coaster, yah it'll probably be an improvement if they got them.

I really wish I had tried Thunder Coaster before the re-tracking because I thought it was brilliant last year so its must have been mind blowing a few years ago.

Hopefully they do get the replacement trains sometime and if it adds to the quality of the ride then its only a good thing.

^^Can't be worse than ThunderCoaster's. You have room to move your legs, but five centimetres to either side, there's a solid metal bar. No padding. Your knees will pound against said metal bar two to three times a second at the roughest bits.

^It was mind-blowing... *sheds tears*

Aaaand, another bump!

TusenFryd just released concept art for their 2010 ride yesterday. It's going to be an interactive dark ride à la Duel, but they still haven't decided on the theme. Screamscape sums this up nicely:
The exact theme apparently hasn’t been finalized as they have put out a guest survey to get feedback on three different themes:
“Escape from Dragon’s Den” - Dragon’s Den sounds more like a Dragon themed version of an escape from Jurassic Park. “A dragon professor welcomes you to take a look at a unique world with dragons in their natural habitat. He says you will be among the first to glimpse these creatures alive. Have no fear, he says, you will be safe during the voyage through the dragon den.” Sure… until something goes horribly wrong and you end up somewhere you shouldn’t be fighting for your life.
“The Dragon Hunt” - Dragon Hunt goes retro, and you venture down into an underground world of caverns to recapture a bunch of escaped dragons. “The dragons, which come in all sizes, some friendly and some not so friendly, are hidden everywhere. The more dragons you shoot, the higher your score. Will you manage to become an official “Dragon Hunter?”
“Dracula” – In a chapel a priest welcomes you and brings everyone up to speed on how Dracula and his minions have been terrorizing a local village. “Suddenly the candle lights flicker and the room turns dark. Thunder rolls and lightning flashes. When the lights come on again, the priest has disappeared and the walls are covered with blood.” From here the riders board to vehical and drive through the village, into the forest, and toward’s Dracula’s castle for the final showdown.

Two of these are dragon themed, the last one is "scary". TusenFryd has no room for a building to house this in, but as a few of you might know, the VikingToktet cave is idle. Also, the entrance to said cave consists of a huge dragon's gap, so it's almost certain that the new ride is heading there. I like the idea of a suberranean attraction!

Any thoughts?

^I'm saddened to hear that the Viking Cave is dead.
I really liked it, and found it to be an interesting and unique attraction.

All three themes have merit, so I'll be interested to see which gets chosen.

New attraction confirmed for TusenFryd!

We're talking about a theHouse ride by Alterface, as seen in the video below:

There is a similar attraction in Branson, Montana (do anyone know what park?).

As for ride name, TusenFryd has asked its guest for opinions. Here are the alternatives:

The Scream
Nightmare
Castle of evil
Haunted House
The House

You can participate in the poll here:

Any thoughts?

I messaged you about this months ago :)
Well I have to say that it looks really cool and I really hope that it will work out great at Tusenfryd.
Do you know where in the park it will be located, Dragons cave or the old walk through house??

About the other attraction:
Youtube comment said:
If you want to know where it is at, it is located in: Branson,MO by the wax museum.
I would guess that it's going to have massive queues on crowded days, at least this year...

^Most likely in the dragon cave. There's plenty of room there, and the entrance fits the theme. Plus, I think TusenFryd wants to draw more people to that area of the park, as it's quite far off the beaten path.

I guess we'll see when TusenFryd gives out an official statement on it.

Ooooh, that ride type looks awesome! I hate scare attractions, and prob wouldn't want to go on it, but it looks very unique, and that's always a good thing. I'm glad Tusenfryd are getting one. It's a lovely park and they've got some cool stuff. I'm kinda glad it's not going in the dragon cave though. I don't think this attraction would've made the most of it. They do need to do something with that though - it'd make a fab ride entrance.
