Norway News: TusenFryd 2013 - £5m dark ride

Re: Norway News: Interactive Dark Ride for TusenFryd (pg.4)

*blows dust*
Took me forever to dig up this topic... Now well, time for more news!

TusenFryd is building their sixth roller coaster this year. "Western-Expressen" looks like a Vekoma Junior 350m-model, and is marketed as a family coaster. Their websites do not allow hotlinking of images, so here are links to the site itself:
http://www.tusenfryd.no/no/Se-gjoere/Ny ... #gallery=1
http://tusenfrydas.wordpress.com/2012/0 ... s-nyheter/
(both in Norwegian)

The coaster is to be built right beside Morgan Kane City, the western-themed village in the innermost corner of the park. There are also reports of digging somewhere else in the park, but seeing as season opening is still more than two months away (70 days, to be precise), we won't get to know more before the park wants us to.

Stats for the coaster:
Length: ~350 metres
Top speed: ~ 40 km/h
Height: 17 metres
Height limit: 110 cm.

Also an image I found:

Stating that there will be 5 news for the 2012 season. Most likely, Western-Expressen will be the biggest of them. I'll keep bumping this topic as soon as I know more.

Have you got those figures in real measurements and which don't smell of brown cheese please? ;) :p

Obviously any new attraction is good news, it's just a shame they've gone a bit off the boil after a couple of quite stunning (at the time) new attractions. If I was a credit hunter this would be the perfect excuse to head back (I did really enjoy TusenFryd), but I'm not :(

^Don't make me bring out that map showing which countries using Imperial units and which using Metric...

Also, Breaking news!

Rumours (created by me!) suggest that this coaster might be "Family Adventure", the Vekoma coaster which operated at Mirabilandia from 2001 to 2011. Compare the pictures for yourself:

According to Screamscape, the Powered Dragon coaster has been removed over the winter. No idea where it's gone/going if anywhere. Might do some more digging later if I can be bothered

EDIT: Bingo! Ignoring the potentially 'stock' photo, I'm guessing this is probably it - http://www.amusementtrader.com/188/majo ... -ZAMPERLA-).html

Looks like you were right!

(Unless they only changed it because of you, haha)

I guess it's better than the Dragon, but if they're trying to drag me back to Norwegian prices they'll have to do better than that ;).

I have memories of putting sun cream on whilst queuing for that ride at Mirabilandia. Memories of the ride didn't get any better than that I'm afraid. Still, it's nice to see TusenFryd getting a new cred because I can see myself returning there again some day.

So, TusenFryd just announced their new ride for 2013 - a dark ride set in the currently empty VikingToktet cave.

Like its predecessor, the ride will be themed to Norse mythology. Not much is known about the attraction. but it's said to be a dark ride utilizing 3D technology. Rumours say it's to be a tracked ride, some commenters on Facebook have drawn parallells to similiar rides in Harry Potter Land in USF. It aims for a capacity of about 800 pph, and is described as a relatively scary and thrilling ride. The investment is said to be about NOK 46 million, or about £5 million.

As TusenFryd is located in a country where the average weather best can be described as "****", I think this is a wise investment. As the entire ride will be located indoors, it will help draw crowds even if it's pouring down (which it often does). Also, that cave is too cool to stay empty.

On the flip side, it means that any new thrill coaster is still far, far away. Not that they have the room for it anyway, but it looks like Loopen will get another few years before being replaced by something. Now well, can't have coasters every year either.

That's really good news that they're reusing the cave. Very interested in seeing how it pans out. Although it's great to have coasters, you also need a little depth to your attractions - literally in this case ;)

Is £5million a decent amount of money for a decent dark ride of this type though?

If that piece of art is for this attraction put me down for excited.

Why is it small parks in other countries can do better theming than our big parks, I just don't get it.

Looks really good.

It reminds me of the Wodan queueline, and if it's half as epic as that is then it's going to kick ass.

It's like that x10. And considering the queue line was the best bit about the ride and I'd happily queue forever for it, that's saying a lot :)

This looks amazing. I can't agree more with Jordan about theming it to Mythology, it's such a strong theme to base a ride off, I love it.

That artwork + £5m price tag?

Don't go getting your hopes up.

With any luck the £5m figure is wrong. Otherwise what you think you're looking at isn't happening.
