"Now Showing"

LOL

Your girlfriend is quite right, Slayed ;)

I watched Big Fish earlier this afternoon. AMAZING film. I personally think it's one of Burton's best. The style is wonderful, I cried, and it's just brilliant. Awesome, awesome film. 10/10

And I'm currently on more Lynch with Wild at Heart... um... I'm posting on here while watching it because it's boring me to hell at back. Nicolas Cage - DIE. And take this stupid blonde with you. When you have a film centred around two characters, they have to be good. And these, aint. 5/10. Lynch - try harder.

Personally, Tim Burton's best film. Usually over-looked, it is a heart-warming, magic fantasy which is probably one of the best films I have ever seen.

That is why I love Tim Burton :)

I just watched Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. I don't know if anyone else has seen this, but I hope to God some of you have seen the TV series...
I saw them on TV two years ago, the atmosphere is great, overall it's just a fantastic series imo, although some of the episodes are a bit boring, yet, it's still very unique.

I think I reviewed the movie here lika a year ago, but I won't bother searching it because...

This is the problem I had with it. It showed too much. It's supposed to be a mystery, that's how Lynch wanted it, but, alas, Americans are dumb and wanted all the answers. It's still good in a bizarre, surreal way only Lynch seems to be able to make work, but, as an overall film and addition to the TV show, it falls short.

It's also missing Lucy and Andy Who are ace.
Couldn't agree more, sir.

Here's a couple movies I've seen in a few weeks.

Pride & Glory
Wouldn't have watched this if it hadn't cost 1€... at 5:40 in the morning, lol, because of the cinema's 'birthday'. It was ok, but a bit too typical for a 'family with cops'-film. The actors were good though, Norton, Voight and Colin Farrell. It was funny when he became angry his true Irish voice came out, which I prefer. Also the movie felt like it wanted to be so deep and cool, which it wasn't as much. 6.2/10

Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
WTF. Ok, I expected this to be weird, but wow. I would want to read the book that this is based on. I'm pretty sure only Terry Gilliam could 'make' a movie like this. Depp and Del Toro are both quite amazing in this psychedelic trip. 8.8/10

Secret Window
Based on two Stephen King's books, which I haven't read. It was a good film, it certainly had that 'Kingesque? or Kingy :)lol:) -feeling to it. John Turturro's character was surprisingly creepy in a strange sort of way. Solid acting by Depp. I don't really know what to think about it all, after the ending, which is a sort of hit or miss. 7/10

Now that's a film and a half, it makes you feel completely tripped out, which was probably the intention! I staggered out of the cinema after that one .

Actually, given Ben's recent Lynchian trawl, it's an interesting comparison. I'd say the closest Lynch has come to a similar effect is Blue Velvet (and maybe the Twin Peaks series), as they all attempt to pull the rug out from under reality and leave you reeling.

Mulholland Drive didn't manage that, as it was just too out there (awesome acting by Naomi Watts though).

*Checks to see if he's watched Rec yet*
I will! It's my last day in work for a week :p.

I'll be expecting a review when I come back in a weeks time then? :p
I bet after all this you'll find a way to dislike it to disappoint me.

Ignore Ollie, he doesn't like Alien.

They're not OMGAMAZING, but they're far better than the final two Brosnan installments.

I've just watched a few old favourites over the last couple of days, including:

Had to watch A Streetcar Named Desire for my theatre class.

Dear god it was long and unbelievably boring.

Main jist is that you have a woman come stay with her sister for a few weeks (turns into 5 months) so that she can escape from her life. Her husband, the stereotypical New Orleans drunk, doesn't like her around. Later, we find the woman has slept we people as young as 17 while she is in her late 30s. Being 1951, this might be weird then. She loses her mind and gets to go to the westbrooke home of the mild-to-obviously nuts.

The movie is in a classic art deco style, much to "Arsonic and Old lace", a much better play. The acting was good but it didn't amaze. The dialouge was long and repeatative (YES there IS a bird!), and it was overall boring. It can't hide behind being an old movie, since there were no special effects.

Overall, don't watch. It's very pointless and is very passable.

1/10

Ok, so the film was watered down from the original play (lazy, crap drama teacher?), but it's far, far from pointless and boring. The "good" acting won 3 out of the four acting oscars, plus another eight nominations in major categories. The character of Stanley changed the nature of the movie "hero" for ever. It introduced themes and ideas that had never been touched before.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but you're just wrong on so many levels with this one.

Also watched Sunset Boulevard for about the millionth time. Just saw that Ben has recently watched it, too. Brilliant film. Gloria Swanson is just epic, and the final line is THE best in movie history EVER. I haven't seen the musical, but could be interesting to see what they did with it.

Rewatched my favourite film ever, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, and it's still amazing. Ben, if you liked the camp, over-the-top histrionics of Sunset, then you should watch Baby Jane. Love Bette Davis. Love Joan Crawford. Put those two old bitches in the same film (they hated each other in real life, soooooo many stories), and you've got pure gold.

Not going to say too much, otherwise people might target me again for stating my own opinion  Anyway, watched Ghost Town today and found it very funny. I love Gervais and in this, he still manages to amuse me, even if the jokes in this film are slightly Americanised.

9/10

It's not as good as the film, at ALL, but, it's still brilliant. It's a bit more upbeat, which is a bit strange, but, it's quite good. It also plays a lot on the corruption aspect, and gives a bit more focus to Betty and a lot more to the other people surrounding the story.

The current production in London is absolutely astounding. The Norma is the closest you'll get to a Gloria-level performance, and the guy playing Joe is just stupidly hot, and he spends a good five minutes in his undies xD He's also very good :p

They're making a movie version of the musical. So, be afraid. Be very, very, very, very afraid.

I'll have a review on The Straight Story later, but, I'm watching Edward Scissorhands right now, so, can't be distracted toooo much :p

A couple of heavy ones for me last night ...

JFK, Directors cut - Having grown up with the conspiracy theories surrounding the assasination of JFK, and not watched this for many years (Costner really does do my head in), I decided to give this weighty (3:30) Oliver Stone movie another airing. The first time I saw this at the cinema, I had to go back a few days later and watch it again as I sufferred a serious case of information overload.

Once you get past playing the who's who in the movies game, the story is gripping and extremely believable. Personally I believe in both the conspiracy and the coup d'état, there were simply too many broken links for this to be as the way the Warren Commision concluded.

So, yeah I will put this one back on the shelf for another few years but, for now, it stays a solid 9/10.

Frost/ Nixon - Staying on the political theme, this was the first time I had seen this one, although I have read stuff about it many years ago. Again a good solid story and shows the massive gamble taken by Frost. 8/10

No. Even those two Brosnan instalments were better than how terrible Quantum was. Casino was better, but, only to the point it's only the second worst Bond film ever.

Anyway, more Lynch! I watched The Straight Story. It's essentially the true story of an old man whose brother has a stroke some 300 miles away. With no other option, he gets on his lawnmower and travels to see him. It's quite a slow film, based entirely on him and the people he meets. There are no action scenes, and even very few jokes. However, it's captivating. It's shot so beautifully, full of imagery, and filled with wonderful performances. It's really a touching film, and I cried :p This is what I'd recommend to anyone who hasn't seen a Lynch before. Or, indeed, anyone that just hasn't seen this film before. Stunning. 9.5/10

And then I watched Edward Scissorhands and Burton's Charlie, but, they don't need long reviews, they're just plain win.

Valkyrie - Not seen this before, the failed attempt to assasinate Hitler, 9 months before he shot himself. Good story, well executed (oops) and a cast of many familiar faces, many from POTC. 8/10
