portemine's creations - Rapace, B&M Launch Invert - 17/11/14

Re: portemine's creations - Ozymandias (B&M Inverted) - 03/0

I'd say add some sand dunes and give them the wavy sand texture on one side. Worked well for me when I made Scorpio.

Re: portemine's creations - Ozymandias (B&M Inverted) - 03/0

That's pretty much you can only do with a desert is to use Geology.
And maybe architecture (in context).

@ CoasterCrazy : Thank you very much :) I'm glad you like my few efforts so far. Positive comments is a powerful source of motivation for me !

By the time I published the previous pictures, I haven't genuinely started working on terraforming and foliage, as you have remarked. Well, I took notice of all your advices :

So I haven't utilised different sand textures so far although I might do so if that proves conclusive. I actually put some palm trees in the background to mimick some oasis. This is knowinly inspired by Matt9537's acclaimed Mysteries of Khahra (Link to picture). Obviously still a lot of work and improvements to do, but at least I wanted to show the direction I'm taking for this project ;)

If this helps you with texture; Sand Dunes are constantly shifting. Which means the dunes will always look like fresh sand as the wind is constantly moulding it.

But you do have various different types of deserts.

Where do you come up with these names? Haha. Can't wait to see more!

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but the name and quotes are from a poem called Ozymandias. If you study English Literature in the UK you may well study it, I remember doing so :)

Thanks! I was just speaking in general about all of ports coaster names but thanks for the background on this one. I probably will not encounter the poem any time soon as I am an engineering uni student in the US with most of my English classes out of the way.

@port: I love the use of different fences and walls in the queue section...looking forward to more as always

Re: portemine's creations - Ozymandias (B&M Inverted) - 03/0

Kudos for Ethan to reveal the meaning of my Invert's name. :D

Inspired by you Derek, I decided to try a Zamperla Volare by myself :

This Chinese-themed, compact flying coaster will be my entry for a WC-style competition on FRCT3, a French-website.

I only made little progress on Ozymandias

Oh god I'm sorry! Didn't realise you wanted it a secret...
This coaster looks really good though! Nice theming there.

Thank you ! And I don't blame you for revealing Ozymandias's meaning, I was actually waiting for someone to guess :D

New look supports for Pionpi :

Re: portemine's creations - Pionpi (Zamperla Flying) - 05/4/

I'm intrigued by your use of supports. I think the default supports for this type of flyer are some of the best in the game because they don't look hideous. I also see you are going with a bit of an Asian theme...

Re: portemine's creations - Pionpi (Zamperla Flying) - 05/4/

Looks very much like Autumn to me.

Re: portemine's creations - Pionpi (Zamperla Flying) - 05/4/

@ reddude333 : I agree with you, in-game Volare supports are actually pretty good. However I wanted to use this particular play with custom supports since I feel it has a curious asian feel. Maybe you'll understand with my latest pics.

@ scw55 : But it's spring ! But yeah, colours are very autumn ^^

These pictures are one month old but I never showed them so...

Re: portemine's creations - Pionpi (Zamperla Flying) - 31/05

With the last screenshot it feels like you could extend the grove a 'little bit more'.

It looks as though that the coaster has a very well themed immediate environment, but is sitting in a grassy purgatory. Just add a few more trees outwards so the area melds better into the blank canvas.

I think using a light-green colour might convey spring as intended better, but it might mean the supports would pain- painstakingly need to be recolour. And the track would melt into any foliage.

Re: portemine's creations - Pionpi (Zamperla Flying) - 31/05

I agree. From the last screenshot a bit more greenery and maybe a head chopper would be nice. But great coaster!

Re: portemine's creations - Pionpi (Zamperla Flying) - 31/05

Thanks for the replies ! I will indeed theme the surroundings way more, and add terraforming. This is only the very beginning ;) I actually prefer this colour scheme, but light green might be great as well.

Re: portemine's creations - Pionpi (Zamperla Flying) - 31/05

Hello everyone ! It's been a very long time since I last posted here :p

I've got back to RCT3 lately after almost a year of non-playing, and started refurbishing Pionpi. I began implementing darker "realistic" terrain textures and took on the massive task of re-colouring the coaster. It's still very WIP, as foliage is pretty much only 5% done - I'll do it last as trees cause a lot of lag.

A sketch of a possible building facade - one of several attempts at Asian architecture I've made :

I work kinda slowly but I hope to get more stuff in one week ;)
Cheers, Portemine

Re: portemine's creations - Pionpi (Zamperla Flying) - 11/05

I love how you're trying to justify the eyesore of a Glider Lift Mechanism by placing a roof on top. Very clever.
I suppose your challenge is to theme the area enough so that the Lift Mechanism is less noticeable, but not to over-crowed it with stuff.

Re: portemine's creations - Pionpi (Zamperla Flying) - 11/05

Thanks for replying.

Actually the idea is from Bohwa, who made a Zamperla Glider which provided me the inspiration for Pionpi :

Re: portemine's creations - Pionpi (Zamperla Flying) - 11/05

Here's the promised update ! This week I mainly attempted at rockwork and foliage around the now infamous Spiral Lift area. This is the first time I actually use sets like StationJimJr's Gardening. N7's Chinese Tallow Tree and Astilbe complete the shrubs and trees. This is not a definitive shot of the area but more a glimpse at the progress so far :

Re: portemine's creations - Pionpi (Zamperla Flying) - 18/05

Great to see you back Port!
I for one am liking the way you've taken a typically off-the-shelf model, given it a new, imaginative layout and theming. Congratulations on producing a more appealing volare which might offer a more tolerable/ bearable ride experience! I have yet to ride one, but from the reports...
