It's not so much strategic planning as it is that's the space along the perimeter they had available. Most any coaster requires the removal of trees. These days that's more of a given then an option. As stuff gets bigger there's got to be more room to get the crane and everything in there. Unfortunate, but a necessary side effect of construction
And if you're coming from Toronto, it is the first thing you see. The major entrance from there parallels the entire layout on 2 sides from across the lake. Gives a fantastic view or the ride. Cedar Fair tends to do that with coasters as the first thing you see coming in. Valleyfair's got Steel Venom and Wild Thing to an extend. CW has Behemoth. KD has Diamondback. And now Carowinds will have this.
