What's new

Thorpe 2013

Loved how some people straight away dismissed this rumour as bull and its actually happened.

B&M appear to have gone crazy and I love it.

If this is popular (with all 3 rides mind you), do you think this will start happening more and more often on the B&Ms that have lost their popularity?

I can definitely see it happening on floorless coasters like Scream at SFMM, Batman The Dark Knight at SFlNE or Bizarro at SFGAdv. They have always been labeled as quite tame & Bizarro was only really popular again the year of its makeover.

^I heard they tested Bizarro reverse during the offseason one year, pictures circulated I think, so it probably will happen.

I think we may see a future wing rider that has dual stations, one with forward train, one backward to avoid loading problems if that makes sense. Great idea and sounds amazing.

The fact that there's already been 3 B&Ms announced to go backwards this year, I'd be very surprised if there's not more to come. I guess we may see one or two more spring up for 2013, with more in the coming years if this first wave works out ok.

Can see one train getting this a treatment on DD at IoA. They lost the main reason for this coaster so they could get some of it back, watching the other train chase you will be different.

At first I wasn't happy with Thorpe's announcement, but now I'm so excited! I'll try it in the summer when me and my mates are wasting our money in that Crash Pad thing.

Also, how are they gonna sort out onride photos? I don't fancy buying a picture of the back on my head...

Just add a set facing the right way and add a delay to the sequencer. Easy. ;)

The more I think about this the more I feel that Dive Machines are perfect for reversed back rows.
The first two rows are the only ones that get the hanging-over-the-edge sensation before the drop & I think the anticipation waiting to drop in the back row would actually be even greater in the last row when facing backwards. Then there's the ability to really view the splash effect. <3

So then why wouldnt it basically work for the hypers as well? It would build up more and more anticipation as you see the ground getting further and further away. You no longer have that safety of seeing the drop approach anymore, so when you eventually crest the effect would be multiplied.

Ive never ridden a dive machine before, but that does make a good amount of sense.

I think thats a great idea for riding coasters backwards, wish more parks could do the same. The last time I faced backwards was on "Shockwave" at Drayton Manor Theme Park while at a coaster club event.

"Swarm" will be even more amazing facing backards esp the inverted drop & the view of the lift hill & station will be impressive, good on Thorpe for trying something new.

Next up is to scrap "X: NWO" asap or put loads of lights, lasers, dry ice etc to make the ride more exciting.
