What's new

Formula 1 2009

I remember 1993 Prost and a few other drivers said that Donnington was to narrow in places.

Did not bother Senna though :)

I've Just thought, with all of the Donnington stuff going on, nobody's thought of this years new track in Abu Dhabi. Personally I think it'll be the same as China i.e fast and <img>, but we'll have to see.

Same with most new tracks. They only good one to have been built recently was Turkey. The rest are all ****e like China and Malaysia. They only care about facilities, stands and corporate entertainment instead of focusing on creating exciting tracks.

Yeah, all the new Tilke circuits are technical and boring!

I think Malaysia is alright, but all the others since Bahrain have been samey and provided dull races.

China is just so poor and tbh all the new tracks were last year.

Had Singapore run during the day most people would say it was rubbish.

Out of all the new modern tracks Sepang is probably the best, but even that track will be 10 years old this year.

BRING BACK SUZUKA!

^ Suzuka will be hosting the 2009 Japanese GP, they are alternating between the 2 of them in the future.

China is so poor because it is so like Silverstone, in that there is barely any (if at all other than the banked curve) height variations. Yeah, Valencia was a poor circuit as was Singapore both of which being exceptionally similar to each other.

The only fear that I have for Abu Dhabi is that it is going to be somewhat of a cross between those 2 and the Bahrain GP (which is also rubbish).

The thing that really makes Malaysia, and even more so Turkey, much better circuits is the variations in height around the track combined with great corners such as the first 2 hairpins at Sepang, and the now world renowned "turn-8" - the corner so brilliant that it's too good to have a name

Were it not for the numerous crashes, safety cars & Ferrari ****ing up in the pitlane then it would have been a boring race. The night time effect did not really add to the entertainment on the track. It was more of a cool gimmick than something to heighten the quality of the racing

Apart from the skinny rear wings, I actually like the new shape, especially the straight nose. Mind you, the Renault looks horrendous, but that's partly because of the vile colour scheme. Even before all the issues with Ferrari's exhausts, they were worried that they'd struggle this season moreso than in recent years. BMW are seemingly furthest ahead in terms of development, being as they were the first team to have a working KERS system running on the car.

In terms of Donington, i'm pretty willing to give it a chance actually. Silverstone is dull as hell to watch at, Donington's much better, and the best part of the track is clearly the Craners anyway. The new section, especially the infield loop, should be pretty good though, because that loop will be one big downhill sweep, because that section of the infield is on a hill. I think it should be quite cool. It does need widening though, they've announced they'll be doing that. They're already busy building stuff, and the new pit buildings should be constructed by mid this year.

The one problem Donnington are going to have is people want a repeat of 1993 and it just not going to happen. For me that was one of the best races I have ever seen for a number of reasons.

Silverstone used to provide some great races and I think it will this year now cars can follow again.

^I dunno, Bourdais is actually pretty good, whereas Sato is erratic and inconsistent.

Sato improved when he joined Super Aguri, and he produced some decent results. I'm not saying Bourdais is a crap driver but the fact that he only scored 4 points last season says it all for me.

I reckon they should have hired both sato and bourdais instead of buemi. Not only did he get beaten in GP2 by his teammate last year (Bruno Senna), He'll take the award for Ugliest man in formula 1 away from Kubica. We that shouldn't be allowed to happen.

Lol he reminds me of Dory off Finding Nemo :)

I agree with you, Buemi is a really inconsistent driver from what I've heard.

Red Bull's car looks nice!

Maybe Newey's come up with a good one.

Front looks fragile though, and Vettel appears to have a massive head which would surely ruin the aerodynamics XD.

I hope it's good, Vettel needs to win some more races, he's a legend.

He should be racing sportscars, because that's a lot cooler!
