Formula 1 2009

^ It's hardly a tribute to Ayrton. He just happens to be related and as such share the same surname.

I hope (for his sake) that he is allowed to become a driver in his own right, unlike Ralf Schumacher who never managed to get out of the shadow of his brother because he was always "Michael's little brother" and not "Ralf Schumacher the F1 driver".

I have had this argument many times on F1 forums, Bruno's real name is not Senna. If he really wanted to make it on his own he should not race under the Senna name. Ayrton's real surname was not Senna either but he raced under is mums name. In lower formula Bruno has not been out standing at all, maybe he will do ok in F1 but there are others who have shown more.

Plus it will be the worst thing he could do, join a team that has little money no testing etc.

^He's probably only being offered a drive because of the sponsorship deals the team expect him to get due to his name.

But what I really want to do is to curse the fools at Honda and Virgin for blaming F1 on being bad for the environment. Technology from F1 crosses over onto road cars all the time, and there's no reason why the R&D efforts on the regenerative braking systems will soon filter down the millions of cars driven everyday. These combined savings will more than compensate for the carbon footprint that F1 leaves behind.

Of course, Honda and Virgin would say there's no reason not to develop the systems anyway and not take part in the racing, but they're missing the point that car manufacturers rarely make such investments, besides, Honda don't want to admit their failures in F1 are embarassing, and Richard Branson needs all the cash he can spare to prop up his airline business!

^ & ^^ Which all brings me to the conclusion that the answer to my orignal point is no, and that Bruno is the next Ralf Schumacher

Bruno the next Ralf please no.

Bruno as it goes seems a nice guy and does not tend to smash into every other single car on the track :)

I just dont know tbh I have followed him through the lower ranks and he just does not seem that great, yes he had bad luck last year and should have probably won the GP2 championship. Is he as good as Lewis, Nico, Glock I dont think so.

Also Bruno was sponcered by the fuel company that just ended their agreement with Honda so I doubt they will get that money from him.

The thing that made me laugh with the Virigin thing was about the environment. Planes use some of the most polluting fuels so god knows why Branson mentioned they need to do more.

I didn't mean he'd be the next Ralf in the sense that he would bash people off the road to get what he wanted.

I was going on about how you stated him to be a below-par driver when compared with the greats such as his Uncle.

Therefore he will never live up to the standards set by Ayrton in much the same way that Ralf never got anywhere near the level that Michael got to. Hence he is the next Ralf. :)

Yes got you I know what you mean now.

But as I said before Bruno has put that pressure on himself by using the Senna name when he had no reason to, thats not his name he changed it.

Ralf went into F1 way to early, due to his name. Mclaren tested him and said he was not ready yet Jordon signed him, 1 year as a test driver he may have done better who know.

Personally I could not stand the guy his attitude sucked.

That's ridiculous, Marc.

"Clean" fuels can be done in motor-racing, I'm pretty sure there's a British politician racing in the American Le-Mans series with bio fuel in the car. So yeah it's possible.

Yeah they can use bio fuels or methonal, but thanks to the engine freeze I do not think this was possible until 2010 or something like that?

But F1, so Max says, is for road car technology. Most cars run on pump fuel so this is what they are meant to use, I think they do but can not fully remember now.

Open Wheel racing such as Kart and IRL use different fuel to road going cars and had done for year.

Martyn they were the reasons Branson gave though, the environment along with the finiancial climate. The artical I read made a joke about that the fact that in a full grand prix weekend does less damage than a 6 hour flight on a plane.

And that's all 20-odd of the cars

I am pleased the Honda team will be racing next year, I like the thing about dont expect to much. So its the same as the past few years then :)

They really will be up against it though with no testing allowed once the season starts.

It's hardly Branson's fault that planes use a particular type of fuel, he didn't make the bloody things. It's not like he's in the airline business because of its world destroying capabilities.

I would assume (without doing any research) that Virgin will be buying a fleet of Airbus A380s, and I would assume that they'd be basing this decision, at least partly, on the economical advantages.

Nope not saying its his fault either tbh did not mean it to sound that way at all.

And we could hardly expect him to stop flying his fleet due to the fuel they use.

It was just what I read that made a joke out of it. This is why the Honda Earth Dreams concept simply did not work, all the talk about the environment and they went racing with normal pump fuel. There is nothing green about F1 racing.

There was a test a few months back though and planes can run on bio fuels with modifications made to them, but its very expensive as they dont get as far on the fuel.

Good to see Honda being saved, wonder what name they will race under though? Its a Honda body with a Mclaren-Mercedes engine.

Mclaren-Mercedes-Honda?

Still nice to see Button racing, I wish he would move to a better team though! He should have gone to Torro-Rosso and replace Vettel at least they are a mediocre team, Honda have just been terrible.

Yeah Virgin Atlantic are going to be getting a fleet of A380's to replace some of the older 747's in the fleet. So Virgin do care about the environment and how much pollution they are causing.
