What's new

Formula 1 2009

How about I rephrase that to erm, a complete ****ing dip ****. Oh wait, even that's not accurate enough. I swear to God that he is trying to run formula 1 right in to the bloody ground. At least Mosley has come to his senses and doesn't want to ditch the British GP if Donnington isn't up to scratch.

Well Donnington is very up in the air really, I do not think they will ever get the work done many people have different views.

Can I just say though that is for Motogp and will be no good for F1 its not designed for cars.

They're well on their way with the Donington transformation already. How they'll get all the funds i'm still a bit sceptical about though. I love Donington though, its one of my favourite UK tracks, seeing a car sweeping down the Craners is a sight unequalled anywhere in the UK (bar Brands Hatch), and the new section they're putting in is quite similar to the Craners, especially having seen the official CG shots of the new layout this week. I'm very keen to see it. It'll be much better for spectators than Silverstone, Silverstone's just awfully dull when you're there...

EXACTLY! That's why I love Donington, Brands Hatch & Oulton Park so much, and I REALLY want to go to Spa!

You are indeed, quite right!

It's no coincidence that the world's best circuits are hilly and have plenty of height variations.

Spa, Nordschleife and Laguna Seca to name but 3.

I haven't walked the entire track, but at last year's 24 hours I did a lot of walking. The La Source to Les Combes walk isn't much fun, it's a massive hill and goes on for AGES. In the early August heat it was pretty mad too!

Fortunately by the weekend, there were media shuttles on the inside, so you could get around a bit more easily. It's MASSIVE though.

Spa used to be my favorite track, but I do feel they have made it to easy now with the changes.

I just remember Donnington from 1993, a race very hard to forget.

Silverstone is very grey I remember a test day I went on with Autosport, I was in a box right over the pit lane speed limit line. Was a great day but you could not really see much just hear the noise and feel the vibrations each time a car entered the pits.

Looks like Virgin will get Honda. Even if it is blatant advertisement of Virgin, a la Red Bull F1, a Virgin car would look good I think. I imagine white with red side pods sporting the logo, and two thin and Virgin red racing stripes down the middle.

^Actually it's quite the opposite....

BBC said:
Sir Richard Branson admits he would be interested in becoming involved in Formula One, but only if it met certain financial and environmental conditions.

"They need to get the rules changed to make F1 economically viable in these tough times," he told BBC 5 Live.

"F1 should also be championing cleaner technology. If we were to get involved we'd want our cars run on clean fuels."

also....

Bernie Ecclestone said:
I've spoken with Richard's people about it. He would love to do it."

So good news for a Virgin F1 Team, I for one would like to see Branson in the sport, as I'm sure he would make the push for economically friendly stuff move further quicker! :p

They will never meet his conditions, so thats as good as out. The whole thing is Virgin never made a bid for the team if you read F1 mags. Honda went to them to see if they would be interested and then it got leaked on the internet. As much as I would love it to happen it wont now.

The deal Bernie might sell to him is that if he joins F1 then he gets the contract for flying people.

But what I find a bit funny is Branson saying clean fuels etc, airlines use some of the worst fuels.

Bernie is coming out with a load of rubbish at the moment thats the problem with him.

^It's the opposite Marc: "speculation has focused on a buy-out led by the current management of chief executive Nick Fry and team principal Ross Brawn."

Yeah but it seems its now Ross on his own, with Bernie and some money from Honda. I will try and find the link.

No one is confirming that Nick has left but it seems that way.

We should know more this week.

Got it

I still love this quote from 2008

Felipe Massa, World Champion 15:34:11pm- 15:34:21pm.

Really hope that Virgin buy the team, It'd be great to see Bruno Senna in F1 this year, a great tribute to Ayrton.
