What's new

Formula 1 2009

Yes! And there was me thinking there was no way to make McLaren even less competitive this season, silly me

Brawn or Ferrari for the win then

The new winners thing is stupid and will ruin the sport.

Who can not say last years final race was fantastic I mean it was won on the final corner of the final lap of the final race. Well next year that wont happen as Massa would have won the world championship as he has more wins.

Kubica would have never been in the title race, Alonso if I am right would have only won one championship and kimi would have never take the fight all the way to Japan years ago.

Its going to be so messed up as someone could win 4 or 5 races finish 6th in the points and win the title its just wrong.

Yes F1 should be about winning so make the winners points more simple really, does not take much to work that one out.

2009 was looking like a good year but now it looks like it could be messed up!

Yeah I'm lost of this one. Why change a format which has been working well for years. If one driver kept on winning all the races from the beginning then the season would end up being over very quick and nobody would care about the remaining races.

They should concentrate on making the racing closer and not messing around with the points system.

Yes thats the thing going back over the years it would have effected a number of championships the biggest one being Rosberg he would never have won a world championship.

MS would have won most of his by the 9th race its bloody stupid and will come back to get them.

Jesus, they've allowed Bernie to get his way with that too have they? Last week, they'd pretty much disregarded that in favour of increasing the 1st place points... Crap, utter crap. They've closed the racing up with the regs, and made the championship potentially even more one-sided with this rule!

I'm glad i'm going to Le Mans, at least none of this Ecclestone rubbish gets near that.

I'm really disappointed in this :( I was just looking forward to it beginning too!

^That is rather intersting. And also does seem to back up Mansell's statistics by giving him 3 championships!

So I suppose furie was right and Mansell does deserve a mention as one of the best drivers

When this comes in all we are going to hear non-stop about is that Massa would have been champion last year with all his race wins instead of Lewis.

They really are trying to screw Hamilton again.

I did think that but they've said if wins are tied then the title will be decided on the original format of points.

So basically "IF OUR NEW SYSTEM ****S UP WE'LL JUST USE THE OLD ONE AGAIN!"

What a ridiculously bland 'title race' it will be this year.

(this was in response to Hoyer of course)

Yeah, but only based on the points of the people who are tied. Which is what they did last season if points were tied, see who had the most race wins. Isn't it?

It still means someone can win the championship in the first half of the season.

It could also mean that if someone wins say, the first four races and then crashes and breaks a leg (a la Schumacher), if noone else wins four races, that person would win the championship without even driving anything, and wouldn't have known during their last race and would find out while at home with a cast around their leg. What a load of rubbish.

That really is pathetic, why bring in such a drastic rule.

So all you got to do is win more races **** the points they basically don't matter anymore.

That has completely made it a one horse race, particularly a black prancing horse.

I do agree that this new ruling is idiotic.

It could, however, make for some better racing. Last season, if Hamilton was leading, and Massa was sat behind him, he probably would've settled for the eight points, but this year he'd have to go all out - every race becomes all or nothing.

Every other motorsport series uses a points system to determine the champion and most of them don't have a problem with making the racing decent!

F1 sucks! Go watch some sports cars! It's Sebring this weekend!

I'm happy about this.

Now we just need football to have a similar system then hopefully all expensive, dull sports will die out.

im of the opinion that these "sports" are only popular because people are sheep and will only follow stuff which is spoon fed them by the media.

Therefor - stop putting this **** on the tv.. and it'll soon become unpopular..

(Clam used to be forced to watched F1 as a kid as his dad was well into it)

Nah, not quite unfortunately! :( It just means that it will be implemented next year.

The only way changes can be made this close to the start of the season is with unanimous support from ALL the teams. Which is what it says in the article.

So 2009: most points = world champion, 2010: most wins = world champion

If they put it in now, then yeah it will, as stupidly the FIA can do whatever the hell they want if it's far enough in advance.

It's just if they change things very close to the start of the season like this, which means that they have to have unanimous backing from the teams. So I fully expect it to be there in 2010. :(
