"Now Showing"

Myself, the younger brother, and the cousin decided to go check out a movie today. We saw Eagle Eye.

I didn't have high hopes for it, seeing as Shia LaBeouf was in it (I'm not a big fan, but my brother and cousin apparently are). I really didn't understand exactly what it was about before I saw it.

But I was very surprised.

The story was very well told, explaining many things I had questions about, as well as giving EXTREMELY well done action shots. It started off rough, will too seemingly different story lines, but quickly merged together. And for fans of "Portal", there's something in there for you ;)

Overall, nicely done. I'd highly recommend checking it out.
9.5/10

Signs is really good until the aliens appear, then it rapidly goes downhill. It had a lot of potential, but just failed overall.

We watched The Princess Bride and it's still rubbish, but still some of the best entertainment to come out of the 80's. One everyone should watch, as long as they understand it's actually a comedy :)

Watched 'Mars Attacks' for like the 3rd time again last night.

I actually got kinda fond of this film due to the kind of Las Vegas, 50's kinda feel to it.
And its probably got the biggest all-star cast I've seen in a film:

*Jack Nicholson
*Pierce Brosnan
*Danny DeVito
*Glenn Close
*Michael J Fox
*Sarah Jessica Parker
*Tom Jones
*Jack Black
*Rod Steiger
*Natalie Portman

(Try and pick out a bigger, better cast ;) )

The film itself kinda lacks a decent dialogue however maintains short strands of comedy and drama.

^ The best part's the alien dressed as a woman, he/she/it walks like a tosser.

Lisa-Marie! Tim Burton's ex-wife. She was his wife during Mars Attacks. She also plays Vampira in Ed Wood, and Crane's mother in Sleepy Hollow.

She was awesome in Ed Wood and Mars Attacks :)

I saw Mars Attacks three times in the cinema - we loved it. It was a social thing though. I went in big groups each time - after a couple of pints. I lifts the film above what it deserves really.

Like all Burton stuff though, it's great first time, you remember why you found it great the second time. Third time reality starts to hit and you feel a bit silly for liking it at all.

Then you come back to it three years later, and love it again...

Mars Attacks! (it needs the "!") is Burton at his absolute campy best.

Keep those people that say Ed Wood is his best. Bollocks.

Mars Attacks! is so totally and utterly <3.

Ed Wood > Mars Attacks!

Ed Wood > Pretty much most other films!

Furie <3 Ed Wood films and Plan 9 from Outer Space particularly.

Catching up...

I love the anarchy of Mars Attacks!, but it never *quite* reaches the level of evil humour it's striving for. Saying that Rod Steiger is awesome :). ACK ACK!

Princess Bride still makes me shudder, I can't handle films that badly made! (for humour or otherwise).

Butch Cassidy = true classic. It'll probably be shown again soon on TV following Paul Newman's death, so catch it! And of course the same writer as Princess Bride.

I saw The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas last night. I'd been looking forward to it since I liked the book, and it didn't dissapoint - excellent adaptation, one of those very rare films that improves on the source. I think David Thewlis is miscast as he doesn't do menace, which undermines some of the dramatic scenes, but regardless it's a film that every school should show (over 12's though!). 8/10

Looking forward to Eagle Eye and City of Ember.

Camp Rock:
Preferred it to High School Musical as it was more about the music than dancing and cheesy pop songs. Also rock is clearly better. Some of the songs are pretty catchy, but the acting is a little amature and could of been better.
It's ok. Worth a watch if your in a happy mood and like catchy music. But like I said it's more about the music so you may be better off just buying the CD. :p

Never mention camp rock again. Ever.

Anyway last night I fancied some drama.
Don't know if many people have heard of this film but it's called
'Leaving Las Vegas'.

Stars Nicholas Cage, who actually won an Oscar for his performance as sorrowful alcoholic 'Ben' in this film.
Basically, this is drama at it's prime, set in mid 90's, I think?
Cage does fantasic job with his character and make's the film worthwhile, it's quite a sad film but kind of lacks a strong dialogue as there only really seems to be 2 protagonists in the film. I kind of sum the film up as a fairly strong drama but it kind of bores me, and the film seems to be too short.

So I'll give it 7/10
Worth a watch but I can't see myself turning it on again.

Well Ollie as a matter of fact the film contains sex scenes, and a prostitute protagonist.
However, no turn ons.

Camp rock is the kind of film that gives you a revelation.
Never to trust Disney to make another good film, that was my revelation.

Although Toy Story 3 is going to be good.

^Uhhuh. The guy who's writing it wrote Little Miss Sunshine, which was an awesome film, so this should be pretty damn good.

I think the guy won an Oscar for the LMS script too.

Although Toy Story 3 is going to be good.

Can't wait for that! They're a bit late in making a third one since the second was made like three and a half centuries ago, but yah, it'll be good. I know the plot and it sounds like it could be decent, but I don't wanna see Buzz and Woody get tossed in a daycare while Andy goes to college! That is so sad.

Never mention camp rock again. Ever.

**** Camp Rock, **** High School Musical, **** High School Musical 2 and 3, **** Hairspray, **** Hannah Montana, and **** the Jonas Brothers.

^ I love musicals, just not those ones or any that have to do with Hannah Montana or the Jonas Brothers, or any other lame characters that are getting way more fame than they deserve.

It looks even better with the coding...

And I agree with you. Neither of those should ever have been made.

I dunno, Hairspray's amazing. Go see the show, then tell me it's crap.

And as for HSM, yes, they may suck, but they are introducing a whole generation to musicals. That's not a bad thing.
