Even I find HSM ok, did not think I would but I find it camp and funny and some of the songs are ok.

But the stage show was quiet bad tbh, let down by the casting and the sets. Not all the cast were bad 1 of them was ok the guy that played Ryan.

I want to see Phantom and Lion King, have seen that once but had bad seats.
 
And as for HSM, yes, they may suck, but they are introducing a whole generation to musicals. That's not a bad thing.

Yeah, musicals with crappy storylines, annoying characters, and overall crap-ness. They should be introduced to like, Lion King, Sweeney Todd, Phantom of the Opera and like, Wicked, which are actually all very good.
 
HSM isn't the greatest movie ever, and the acting is pretty cheesy, biut it certainly isn't as bad as most people try to make out.

Yeah, show a four year old Sweeney Todd, and see how that works out...

Tay you seem to miss the concept of an "introduction". The idea can then be that since they grew up liking HSM, they then stand more chance of going "oh, maybe I'll check out Wicked..." when they get older.

It's the same way that the Disney animated musicals did it for me - Lion King, Aladdin, etc. Get introduced by something nice, and light, and then move onto the "proper" ones. Same vein as reading Roald Dahl before you read Shakespeare.

Plus, you seem to be forgetting HSM is exactly how it's supposed to be. You can't really hate something that fulfils its purpose, surely...? Just, don't watch it.

Well, maybe not exactly four, but there are fans of High School Musical that are like, 13-17 ish, who would be better off spending their time watching a more intelligent or well thought out musical.

Fair point, but what about the sixteen year olds who are already old enough to watch whatever musical they want? And what about the idiots that are my age that come to school with High School Musical and Jonas Brothers pencil cases? That is just sad.

I definitely won't be watching it again, ever. Biggest waste of an hour and a half of my life.

It's not really that sad... no sadder then still watching any other Disney film. And you can't tell me you don't still do that. You sad act.

You can't judge people for watching the "kiddy" option, as it were. How do you know they then don't go home and watch Phantom? Or Rent? I still love HSM, but then I also do love the "serious" ones you mention. You do realise they could always be watching both, right?
 
On the musical theme I watched Sweeney Todd after seeing it for £7 in HMV.

I like Sweeney Todd after seeing it not long ago in a production in Portsmouth. I was a bit edgy in my expectations after hearing clips from the soundtrack.
But after watching i can say I was suprised and shocked at many parts of the film. My first suprise was that Depp may have an alright voice to sing he constantly has this horrid daze he uses in the film which makes the character look like he hasn't a clue what he's doing. How he looked however was very good I thought an authentic look for the era.
Sarah Bonham Carter was ****, end of. Sascha Baron Cohen was really good in my opinion, I think we'll see him in more musical adaptions in years to come. The actor who played the Sailor was brilliant, he had a fantastic voice and sang Johanna really well, as for her, meh.
Alan Rickman was a bit iffy, could've been better cast I think, as Rickman isn't a singer so it didn't sound right.
Enought about the cast! The effects was gory, wasn't expecting how much gore there was, but this was a good thing as its what the stage show couldn't do. With the ton of blood splurting out after every death and then the splaterring over their skulls on the floor of the basement.
But I hated how it ended, as it leaves the love story unended and the fate of the boy. Where as the stage show ties it up much better and you can understand the ending better, rather than concentrate on Depp so much.

Yeah i give the film 7/10.
 
The Sting

Another Paul Newman classic. Stars many of the same actors that were in Butch Cassidy. The movie does start off slow, but picks up fast. Some parts they could have cut down on, but it was still a fantastic movie. It is pretty much a better Oceans 11.

9.5/10.. only because of length. <3 otherwise.
 
Went to see Tropic Thunder last night...

It was alright, had it's moments, and did some great mickey takes of general movies and producers...

Downey Jr. walked away with the whole thing like he did Iron Man, and Tom Cruise was pretty amusing...

Was unsure over Jack Black and Stiller... The laughs didn't really come from them imo...

Some great one-liners though, so a 7/10
 
Dave, Sarah Bonham Carter was awesome in the movie! I can't believe you didn't like her. Her and Johnny Depp didn't have incredible voices, but I enjoyed that about it because it was just like two regular people trying to sing, instead of these big, extravagent voices like in a few musicals.

Johanna was annoying as heck though; her face and voice really annoyed me. Pirelli was good, though.
 
Watched Rec again. I already know when everything jumps out now but it's still a great film. The atmosphere it creates is immense and makes everyone go silent and can't get their attention off the screen and what is evolving in front of them.
My favourite bits are when they try to calm the little girl down and she goes nut (kudos for the sound effects used there). And also the final scene *shivers*.
9/10 :p
 
Dave, Taylor can i just ask "who the hell is Sarah Bonham Carter" I think you will find its Helena Bonham Carter lol.

Anyways i watched a couple of films at last first was a film that dosent come out till next week here in the uk called MUTANT CHRONICLES starring Thomas Jane the guy who was in the punisher. Its all filmed digitaly just like sin city and 300 and is actually rather good just like watching a comic book plus it had the addd bonus of some other big names in it like Ron Perlman of hellboy fame, Sean Pertwee, John Malkovich and the added bonus of the very tasty Devon Aoki. I recomend a watch i wont spoil it for anyone so give it a try. Second i got round to watching DEATH RACE, The jason stathem new one, And i have to say i rather enjoyed it. I am a big fan of the origional film and was glad to see they had not remade it just took the concept and made a few refrences like frankenstien still being a racer and also machine gun joe, ITs one of those leave ya brain at the door films and enkpy the violence car races and explosions and it did what it needed to it entertained me for an hour and some id give it a 8/10 go check it out

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Cute stuff... I wasn't overly impressed, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and I'll probably end up buying it eventually because it'sa very rewatchable film. The storyline was cute and although I wanted the outcome to be a bit different, I still liked it. A lot of funny parts too, a few which were laugh out loud worthy.

bloody hell ya late with that trailer aint ya lol. also cant wait to see it i saw the trailer live from comicon and drooling since i cant wait also
 
Ollie that looks fabulous, and it's a film not a game??? Seems bizarre to make an animated film when they have already done 3 in live action.

Either way it looks visually stunning but I am a little concerned about the script work. The dialogue in the trailer alone is somewhat... cheesy?

Im a big fan of the whole Resident Evil franchise so I look forward to that one.
 
American Psycho

Very interesting movie.. although something which took a while to develop. The beginning was.. boring.. but it picked up half way.
