Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny
I remembered really enjoying this when I first saw it when my friend brought the DVD round my house. Anyway I got it for £5 today from ASDA.
It was still enjoyable, but it didn't seem as amazing as my first viewing. Probably due to the fact I knew all the songs and where all the funny bits were.
Still it was good and recommended to sit down and watch if you see the film cheap anywhere. :)

Rented Iron Man tonight.. not NEARLY as bad as i thought it'd be.

In fact it was totally watchable!

(shock!)

^That's what I thought after watching! Robert Downey Jr. ftw :p

Watched Eagle Eye t'other day.

Wow, it was... certainly a popcorn movie. Forget leaving your brain at the door though, you might as well've left your entire head there. It was that daft. I'm mad enough to like that sort of thing though, so it didn't bother me much. Lots of innapropriate giggling insued, however.

Shia "The Beef" is definitely maturing as an actor, and he's yet to dissapoint me. He really knows how to hold the screen, and do so for an entire movie.

Music was good to passable, might even go try and find it myself at some point.

Plotting, like I said, was all over the place. It was an alright film if you didn't guess who the voice was after 20 mins, and I do see what someone [sorry, cba to read back through the topic to find you :p] said about it being a lot like another film.

So, if you like a movie that makes even Hollywood look stupid, here it is. I liked it, but I'm mad like that, so, make of it what you will.

6.5/10ish

Do you wanna like, explain the ending to me a little bit? It got kind of confusing about three quarters into it.

I totally agree with what you're saying though; a popcorn film that's decent, but forgetable. Shia is definitely a good actor as well.

Well, I'm mad enough to accept the gaping gaps of logic that led them to conclude and do the things they do...

Sorry, word-vomit ftw :p

EDIT: oh, wait, you meant the film! Eh, it's rather simple. I'll tell you on MSN sometime :p

EXCELLENT trailer film though. Possibly the best trailer of the year so far.

Cube:

I was told that this film was good but I wasn't prepared for how good it actually was.
The story follows a group of people who wake up inside a cube not knowing how they got there. each side of the cube has a door that leads to another cube. They soon discover that most rooms have a trap inside that results in a grizzly death. They must work together to try and find a way out using a unique skill that they are good at. Tempers soon start to flare and the frustration sets in as the group seem to be getting nowhere. They then try and find a solution by using numbers and mathematical equations to work out where they are in the cube.
The acting talent can be questioned and can be very amateur at times. But it doesn't ruin the film at all and it still sets to be a great film.
Word of warning though. This is a thinking film that requires you to understand what is going on, so may not be suitable for Taylor. :p

Highly recommended film and worth seeing if you ever get the chance.
9.5/10

The Strangers

I had been anticipating the DVD release for like, ever, because I didn't end up seeing it in theatres. I knew it would be a creepy movie from the moment I saw the commercial, because those masks and stuff are really what freaks me out, so I knew it would appeal to me. But seriously, some of those scenes were beyond like "omg". The first scene where the masked Stranger is first seen, to the last one (not the very last part with the kids because that was just dumb, but the one with the chairs etc if you know what I mean), and the closet scene which was possibly the scariest part of the whole thing were like crazy. Almost all of it was creepy as **** though so it's hard to pick just a few parts. The only thing that kinda made me angry was how they came and went so fast.. Kinda like ghosts, only they weren't.

Overall, very good horror movie, great with the creepy factor which was exactly what I was looking for when I watched it, so 8/10 .

We have been watching Heros season 2 and its really good, the story just keeps getting better and better.

I'm just about to finish series one (playing serious catchup here). It's pretty good, but I don't think it's as good as Carnivale, but that's only because Carnivale is seriously nasty.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

Well.. damnit.. it is SW.. and I love them all.

10/10

You missed a point off there Snoo - sorted it for you (it's the best directed and best scripted, and as part of the trilogy as a whole, it's the best story (stand alone it's not so good, but it's not meant to be watched stand alone).

We sat down and watched The Faculty last night. Great entertainment. Utter trash, but superb fun. It never takes itself seriously, so gets away with it. Absolute mindless fodder - watch it 4/10 :)

Cube is a good film, keeping you guessing all the way through. Its getting old now though but for me Saw in a way follows it, if you get what I mean.

I've seen it thank you very much! I watched it like a year or two ago and I understood it perfectly fine. It wasn't that great of a movie though, I mean, it was good, but it wasn't as great as people say. The acting though, like you said, was serious crapness.

Proves my theory. :p
Taylor, it goes alot deeper than the characters explain in the film. It's not just all about the numbers and the rotations of the cubes. There's more meaning than that. I'm sure you did understand it. But not in the depth that the director intended it to be taken. If you look up other peoples reviews on it who gave it top marks you'll see what I mean.

It doesn't matter what it's really about! It's about me saying whether I enjoyed the film or not, which I did, but I didn't find it incredible, as I said. If I have to look for some deep, underlying meaning which I didn't see when I was watching the film, it's not worth the research... Even if I found the underlying meaning, it doesn't make the movie any worse or better for me.

This person makes a good point, I guess:
I dont get all you people saying its great.. it makes the mistake of being MADE for the hidden meanings.. making you look for them (even if you cant find them) as soon as you start watching. Its whole purpose was obviously to try and say something about how you dont always know who your fellow humans are or something but its too obvious and no plot. a great movie should be purely story based and then when you watch it over and over THEN you notice hidden things (bladerunner).. theres nothing hidden in this movie. it was made for the "symbolic" side but completely forgot about any plot at all! who did this to them? what was on the outside? how were they kidnapped without knowledge? without these elements there is no story.. only psychobabble metaphors riddled into a slice of a group of people you dont knows life. people who think its great because they relate it to situations outside the movie are thinking their smart but are falling into the trap of exactly what the directors wanted.. they wanted to make a "i feel smart for seeing these hidden meanings" movie but make it avalible to the masses so even dumb people could find them and think its an intelligent movie. all you people that stayed up talking about it to people for like 1.5 hours after... what?? basically it needs a story foremost and THEN you can start thinking about symbolism! the movie is like a daydream and because nothing is resolved or found out in this movie you find yourself trying to figure out its meaning and then thinking to yourself "actually.. who cares? its so unrealistic it wouldnt even matter if i did solve anything and would be useless". maybe if you saw life on the outside then you would care about understanding its meaning, but it would probably be another obvious symbol like being a cube inside a cube or something lame to make you think its sooo cleaver so why bother. oh and people who actually even thought about calculating the numbers for themselfs?... sad! good idea but needs a beginning and an end.. or some flashbacks to their lives so you can relate to them and not just think its a pointless dream. oh and less protrusive and obvious symbolism. cheers.

Haha, out of randomness I tuned into FiveUS's showing of The Dentist last night. This film made me lol so much it was just so predictable and silly. They showed way too much detail on the evil drilling parts, does make one hide behind hands. Not a film for peeps who hate the dentist already :p The direction and general film making was sh*t.
Rating: 1/5

In fact, I agree. :)
