Small News From The Theme Park Industry

Liseberg is closing their Hall of Mirrors attraction ”Kristallsalongen”—the park’s oldest operating attraction, having been there since 1962—after September 14th in favor of a ”new, big family attraction” coming in Summer 2026. The building housing Kristallsalongen will remain, implying the new attraction will also be housed indoors.

Blackpool Council’s planning committee denied plans to build two rides on either side of the town's South Pier. The full planning application by the Blackpool Pier Company was for a Star Flyer ride on the south side and a Log Flume on the north side of the pier, to be in place for a period between April 1 and October 31 each year. Workers at Walibi Holland begun a digital signature campaign earlier this year to put pressure on management to improve working conditions at the park, with the main sticking point being the segregation in treatment between permanent and seasonal employees. Permanent employees, of which Walibi has few, are covered by a collective bargaining agreement of which seasonal employees are not, allowing the park to get away with lower pay and stripped benefits (such as pension and travel allowance) for most of their staff. The Dutch trade union De Horecabond is closely following these activities, and agrees that Walibi’s working conditions are below standard for theme parks in the country, suggesting either strike or court action should be taken if the conflict continues to escalate.

An update on the employee situation:

De Horecabond has now called for a staff meeting in Dronten on September 18th, where the union will share the results of a consultation held with Walibi Holland management on the 15th. All employees of the park, union or non-union, are invited to attend, with the union hoping for a strong turnout. Should things remain unresolved the union says any option will be on the table, including a strike.

^ I watched a video of the new overlay and although the visual is cool, the voice over with the exaggerated cartoon villain voice just repeating gate numbers feels so silly.

But tbf it's Disney, Disney at it's core is silly. Just I guess I mean sillier than the non-overlay version.

Apparently Fantasilandia in Chile is building an Intamin ZacSpin for 2027: https://rcdb.com/23191.htm

I had no idea Intamin were still manufacturing these! Given that the last one opened nearly 15 years ago, I thought they’d largely fallen by the wayside in favour of the S&S 4D Free Spin…

Intamin probably selling off the last stock they found in the back of the warehouse for cheap. :P

Here is a look at the progress on the Minifigure Speedway clone coming to Legoland Billund.

As this one is not on a hill the lower elements are in ditches.
I can’t help but feel a couple of standard Vekoma Boomerangs would have been a better fit?
