Small News From The Theme Park Industry

Efteling and Vekoma have collaborated on a ”coaster-seat wheelchair” design that could be safely attached to existing coaster trains and allow disabled guests to experience the attraction without having to change seats. The prototype, presented by the two parties at IAAPA Europe, serves as an invitation for other manufacturers to come up with their own solutions to make their rides more accessible, according to Vekoma’s CEO Anne-Mart Agerbeek.

Is that the prototype? Could someone explain how that could “safely attach” to a train? Im unsure if the tyres are for aesthetics or part of the process.

Lagoon announced a new ride is expected to open for the 2026 season. The new attraction is planned to be 135 feet tall, hit speeds up to 68 mph, and deliver G-forces greater than “those experienced by astronauts during launch,” according to a Lagoon spokesperson.
The park has yet to reveal the name of its new ride or release any concept art of the design, but it hinted on Monday that a first-look sneak peek of the ride is planned for later this week.
“This new ride will offer a unique combination of speed, height, and extreme swing dynamics that further solidify the park’s reputation for world-class thrills,” the spokesperson said. Source

My bet is on a Zamperla Giant Discovery.

Responders at Liseberg safely evacuated guests from the Lisebergsbanan roller coaster on Saturday afternoon after a tree fell nearby, leaving foliage across the tracks. The debris stopped the ride mid-cycle, and evacuation protocols began within 30 minutes. The incident resulted in no serious injuries, although park staff assessed some of the passengers involved. Speaking of Zamperla, they want people to pantomime on rides

The amount of teenagers who care too much about looking "stupid" who would never ride this, I love silly the clunky animation makes the people flapping look

Keansburg Amusement Park in New Jersey, a fixture for 121 years, faces a significant threat from a proposed development project. The borough plans to sell a municipal parking lot adjacent to the park to Sackman Realty, which intends to build more than 200 luxury apartments. Hank Gelhaus, the third-generation owner of the park, has vowed to continue his legal battle to preserve the historic amusement park. Source

Apparently an incident happened on Monday where a woman was found unresponsive after riding Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion and was unfortunately pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital. Investigators currently don’t believe the ride to be linked to the woman’s demise, but the autopsy is still ongoing. Haunted Mansion remains operational in the meantime.

A TikTok star has announced his intent to open RetroEscapes, a nostalgia-themed park in Las Vegas featuring decade-themed lands from the 1950s to the 1990s, as well as a Tomorrow Zone and Fountain of Youth show. TikTok influencer Daniel Leo highlighted his plans in an Instagram video.

Some news about Funland at Hayling Island. Seems the log flume and a coaster will be going. Doesn't specify which coaster but I presume it's the wild mouse as that's next to the log flume.

Specifically the rides are being removed to make way for 55 homes :(. A bit like what's happening in Porthcawl but at least with Hayling Island there will be some of the park remaining.

I’ve got to admit, I think this is already shaping up to look better visually than Windsor’s equivalent. I thought the rides being situated high up in Windsor made them look a bit strange, whereas I think the tunnels here look as though they could be quite cool!

I’m not sure I like the colours on this one quite as much, though.

It should be a nice fit for the park, nonetheless; the Windsor rides are good fun!

Efteling’s Python is getting a third train in early 2026, which will allow the coaster to run two trains on the track at all times while the third is undergoing maintenance. The park currently only has two trains and will have to go down to one-train operation more than the park would’ve liked, so a third train has been bought from Vekoma to ensure capacity is upheld.

Plopsa plans to permanently shut the Plopsa Station indoor location in Antwerp in the near future, according to insiders at Looopings. The location originally opened as Comics Station Antwerp in 2017, but closed just two years later due to financial problems and was acquired and renovated by Plopsa in 2021. Despite multi-million investments since then, the location has apparently failed to attract enough visitors to satisfy its new owners, and is now on the chopping block. Tickets are still on sale up until December 31st, but wether it’ll still be open in 2026 remains uncertain.

Edit: Plopsa has come out and confirmed that Plopsa Station will close its doors after the Christmas holidays. The last operating day will be January 4th.

Im always quite surprised just how close they've built houses to the park. For reference the log flume is right behind this persons conservatory. I imagine they'll just throw up some flats in the spot created by the ride removals.

Disneyland Paris’s Ratatouille will close this October and re-open fully refurbished in 2026 with numerous technical enhancements including updated projections, sets, props, ride programming, and a brand new show scene in the ride’s queue line. It’s unknown if any similar upgrades are in the works for the Florida version.

Walt Disney World has now confirmed that their version of Ratatouille will receive similar updates beginning in November. The 3D will also be discountinued in favor of updated digital 2D projections.
