Small News From The Theme Park Industry

Mattel will serve as the title sponsor for a new $90 million water park in Bradley, Illinois, that will break ground next year. The Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterpark will feature IPs such as Barbie, Hot Wheels, and American Girl, with the partnership expected to increase annual sales by up to 30%. Source

Not to be a Danny Downer, but shouldn't they open A park before building 6 others?

Mattel seems to be more in the business of branding rather than physically building and operating parks. The two they've just signed their IP to were already-ongoing municipal projects partnered with American Resort Management. The two Mattel Adventure park projects in Arizona and Kansas are with Epic Destinations, who seem to have hit all kinds of roadblocks from financing to construction site fatalities. Neither really have any connection asides from Mattel providing IP fodder.

Liseberg just announced whole year operations for the kiddie area (Kaninlandet). Beginning in 2026, Kaninlandet will be open every weekend the whole year. In the winter months the ice rink from Christmas will also stay open. Liseberg says this is influenced by wanting to offer Liseberg hotel guests more to do. Together with the coming water park, Liseberg will be able to offer families a full weekend experience even in the off season. One day in the kiddie area, one hotel night and one day in the water park. It's a pretty good resort offering.

The B&M Batman: The Ride clone at Wonderla Chennai in India has gone vertical. This ride was previously located at Kuwait Entertainment City as Lightning.

This is now open, called Tanjora:

According to rcdb it opened on 2nd December:

The new colour scheme is looking really nice, this is surely one of the best coasters in India now.

The logo looks kind of familier

Are there any other Batman clones (or B&M inverts in general) that run 6-car trains?

I know some prefer the 7-car trains like on Vampire at La Ronde. But this one seems to run extra zippy with even shorter trains.

Baron 1898 is now receiving double-sided lockers where the open-air bag hold once stood. This is done to both increase security and reduce staff needs as it was previously a manned location. The lockers will still be free to use.

An update on the employee situation:

De Horecabond has now called for a staff meeting in Dronten on September 18th, where the union will share the results of a consultation held with Walibi Holland management on the 15th. All employees of the park, union or non-union, are invited to attend, with the union hoping for a strong turnout. Should things remain unresolved the union says any option will be on the table, including a strike.

The employee conflict at Walibi Holland is escalating after management refused further consultation with the Dutch trade union De Horecabond, despite conceding on minor salary and benefit increases for seasonal employees in 2026. The union argues that seasonal employees still don’t receive pension and face worse conditions than full-time staff, thus they are now moving ahead with labor action unless Walibi Holland were to return to the negotiation table before midnight today, although what form it’ll take has yet to be decided.

You all remember those Skyline p'sghetti dueling coasters right? Well, it seems Kid Flash Cosmic Coaster has been added to the Fast Lane list for Fiesta Texas meaning they are probably working on reopening it at some point! (I missed the credit at Over Georgia so if they could work on that one too that would be great)

Theme Park Guide seem to think that Rumba Rapids at Thorpe Park could be closing permanently, with work on the attraction seemingly being close to non-existent, the large pumps having been removed, and boats not having been reassembled: https://themeparkguide.co.uk/news-p...0PeUqeBIx5IAiDBeWA_aem_wMRm8tU3fiMha-D2oq9FNA

I don’t know how concrete this evidence is, but I don’t find it massively surprising if this is true. It seems like the operation of the ride has wound down in the last couple of years, and to be honest, this style of ride generally seems like one that Merlin may be turning away from.

On the one hand, Rumba Rapids is one of my favourite rides at Thorpe and I'd be sad to see it go. On the other hand, I can't call this unexpected, with high staffing costs and that last year it was only open in the summer, and even then only in the afternoon; because of that, despite Thorpe being one of my home parks I never got to ride it last year.

It does seem a bit of an unnecessary ride for the park nowadays. I can't help but wonder if it'd be replaced with a brand new family or family-thrill ride (woodie?) that would broaden Thorpe's appeal, or the space will be used to extend and convert Stealth into a multi-launched LSM coaster...

The space does lend itself very well to the UK's tallest and fastest wooden coaster.

The height and speed record is lower since Megafobia closed so I can imagine it'd be very easy to claim the record. Even if the height is 25m and 50mph.

It is wasted space considering they run the ride for just two months.

Lake Winnepesaukah announced a long-term commitment with IB Parks & Entertainment to operate the historic amusement park, which celebrates its 110th anniversary this year. The Chicago-based company is owned by Gene Staples, who purchased Indiana Beach in 2020. Lake Winnie becomes the fifth property in his portfolio, along with Niagara Amusement Park & Splash World, Clementon Park & Splash World, and Big Kahuna's in New Jersey. Source
