Small News From The Theme Park Industry

Roller Coaster at Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden in Vietnam got crushed under a massive tree that collapsed during a recent typhoon. The coaster had only been in operation since 2021.

RCDB still lists the coaster as operating pending further updates, but it’s not looking good for it.

Don't think this has been covered anywhere but Drayton Manor have announced that for Christmas nearly all rides are going to be open bar the water rides I think. So hopefully setting the trend of things to come

As far as the latest reports suggest, Dragon Khan now features a single rider line. This is great news and definitely the right step to improve the park's poor operations.

So far the following rides have SR line: Shambhala, Hurakan Condor, Mission Street, Furius Baco (2025), Dragon Khan (2025) and Red Force.

Hopefully, Uncharted will eventually have its SR line back, as it was on opening year.

Part of the South of the Border roadside attraction, on Interstate 95 on the line between North and South Carolina, has been put up for sale.
The owners are selling 30 acres that include the Pedroland amusement park, the "SOB Convention Center," a motel building, a mini-golf course, vacant land, and a former casino. The price is listed at $2.85 million.
Those parts of the attraction have closed, but South of the Border is keeping its unusual sombrero observation tower, reptile lagoon, souvenir stores, and restaurants. The main motel and campground are also still in operation. Source

I got the Wild Mouse cred before it closed in 2002, and this is what the park looks like now.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg announced that Verbolten will be reimagined as Verbolten: Forbidden Turn in 2026, featuring a new storyline and special effects. The ride will remain open until Jan. 4, 2026, before temporarily closing for updates and reopening sometime later in the year. Source

A rather posh story out of South Africa, at Splash Waterworld waterpark. This past Saturday a tree toppled over and extensively damaged the runout sections of four speed slides, although fortunately human injuries were minor. The tree was an endangered Milkweed species protected under law and was located right up against the attraction.

For a lot of parks this would be a pretty lengthy and expensive fix. It took the waterpark only four days to clean up, cement over the spot, repair and even fabricate new fiberglass pieces in-house, and reopen the attractions. Quite commendable, really.
