The Games we play...

Been Playing NFS Shift 2 as it was free with Plus.

Cheap arcadey version of Gran Turismo - not mystyle of game really but does get competitive trying to beat Phils times he probably set about a year ago

I got it in November I think. Not played it massively, but I much prefer it to GT5 most of the time because it's hard work, but fun. The cars are twitchy and lively, but it's got a lot of issues. So it's kind of so-so in the end

Don't tell me I've got to play the bloody game again to get my lap times back though? :p

Silent Hill was another freebie (all about the Plus freebies now)... forgot how bad PS1 graphics were, not sure I have patience to play through such a game again now its not so visually appealing (same goes for Res 2 and 3).

It find the games not just ugly though, but sluggish and awkward. I find it really hard to play PS1 games at all and slap myself hard whenever I think nostalgically about them and think about buying them ;)

Because we play good games here.

You come across as a games snob, but whenever I see you on XBL, you're in some crap FPS :p

I've got 1000 XBox points burning a hole in my pocket, thinking Rez HD is the way to go, but Madame_Furie wants Bubble Bobble. Dammit

I just play for the Irony *pops out lenses of 3-d glasses*

I like it. It's my brainless shut off game that I play when I want some sort of quick mild entertainment or something to play while talking to others in a party. I do like to try other genre's though and COD is just another series I like playing.

It is very dull though and completly souless. I've done multiple things in it but there's absolutely nothing that is memorable that has happened through out the time I've been playing it. It's just there, accessible and doesn't require pounds of consentration.

For my favorite games I need to be alone. I want to put all my attention into them and when you have Jer wanting a party then I'll have to postpone them.

Get more and get both.

On the topic of Mass Effect. The everything in it boring. Dull combat, Dull story, Dull characters (Except Wrex <3), Dull extras. Everything (Except Wrex <3). It's considerably less engaging than COD and that only requires about 3 braincells. I will give credit where it's due. It made for a hilarious Let's Play by Samaxwell Adams and the Freelance Astronauts.

Also Wrex <3

The original Mass Effect had a great story and relatively decent writing

(hence why almost everyone who's played through the entire franchise is so furious with how they ended it all). Especially the choices you had to make towards the end of the game. How far through it did you get? Virmire and the first conversation with Sovereign was amazing, and if you go in there without knowing
someone has to die
it's proper emotional.

And as for COD being more "engaging", what is this I don't even

I can only assume you mean from a pick-up-and-play perspective rather than a story-and-characters perspective. It's not like they're even remotely similar games, so I'm not sure why that's the comparison you head straight for...

I'll second the Wrex loving, though. Him and Garrus were the ultimate team

It was like Final Fantasy 7 for me.

"It gets better you get to x" or "Once you've done y it's more fun"

I did those things and it wasn't improving. I gave up after a couple of hours. I don't want to slave away doing **** only for it then to promise to be enjoyable. I can play slow and deliberatly paced games and enjoy them. Persona 4 takes a while to start up and I quite liked that.

The reason I made the comparison to COD is that it was nearly as equally rewarding to do stuff. Mass Effect is a single payer game, I requires you to get engrossed in it to enjoy and while I was playing it felt like it wasn't trying. It's not designed around playing in short bursts like COD either and thus just becomes a hollow and grating experience for me.

I never read reviews on games though (except Zero Punctuation, but that's different), I don't really care what other people think of a game. I treat them all openly and individual when going out and buying them so running a "loads of people praised z aspect of w game" won't really work.

I gave up the first time I played it (at the boss fight on Noveria), then went back to it a year or so later and thought it was much better than I remembered it. Looking at your profile on Xbox.com it looks like you've only done one story level (to get Liara). Maybe give it another shot if you're out of stuff to play.

Also, I tend to trust the opinions of people who've paid money for games over journalists who are nearly always sent games for free and bribed by PR companies with all-expenses paid trips around the world (there's even a twitter account dedicated to journalists who use twitter as a "check out my freebies" boasting site). Normal people are much more likely to be honest about games as there's no chance of them being blacklisted by companies.

What's up with the swear filter, too? It even tried to censor the name of the twitter account in the link, so I had to use tinyurl to get around it...

Doubt it. I have no drive to go back to it, plus I've got piles of other games. I've got a bit of an addiction for collecting :x

Blame furie for the swear filter. ALL HIS FAULT. SHUN!

Is now a good time to point out I have four times as many 360 games as you?

Also, not sure if anyone else has noticed, but the links on a users forum profile to their Xbox profile don't work any more. I guess Microsoft changed all the links last time they redesigned the website.

Work for me... The PSN ones don't, but that's because Sony are case-sensitive nazis.

The swearing filter doesn't allow the "s" word, hence why the URL was filtered.

Oh, I've not tried clicking on it  The gamertag thing still works though

I'll have to look at the mod, but it's not massively important :)

Who are you? Lucas off The Wizard? I'm not just limited to the 360. I'm not after numbers. If I was I'd be running around shouting my e-penis was huge cause I bought loads of EA sports games thus making it look big and impressive.

Instead I do stupid things like buy Panzer Dragoon Zwei with out owning a Sega Satur and import japanese bullet hell games.

I've been working my way through Trials HD over the last couple of weeks off and on, getting ready for the release of Trials Evolution this week.

I loved the original Trials on PC when it was released about 10 years back, and this version is good, but I find it's a bit too "big" at times, which makes it a bit haphazard. One thing I loved about the original version was that the levels were quite short, but very challenging. Still, it's a great game but I'm never gonig to get all golds - such a swine of a game

I was wondering if you'd take that the wrong way after I read it back. It was more of an "I know the feeling, but I've still finished Mass Effect three separate times" than an "e-penis" thing, but I could have probably worded it better.

Also, check my games list and you'll see I've got very few EA sports titles padding it out.

Probably both worded badly. In the end, furie is right. I am snobby about games but I still un-snob now and again. :3

I just play games to entertain me. I'm as unsnobbish as you can get :p

Just ordered a second 360 controller, so I guess I now have to decide whether to invest my 800 MS points on Rez HD or Bubble Bobble (for madame_furie). Or save the for Trials Evolution at 1200 points.

Also got a friend badgering me to pick up Sensi Soccer on Arcade. The problem with entering late into a system life cycle is the amount of cheap, decent games to catch up on

Still got a tenner sitting in my PSN account too...

I only have 1000 MS points though, so would have to spend money, which I don't want to do :p
