Another theory as to what this ride could be;

http://www.premier-rides.com/rides.htm - the terrain following LIM

I know they are out there already, but is it not a world's first element, not coaster type? It could be a worlds first backwards one from Premier (of this type of coaster (also that would tie in with my theory above)

My point is that you don't see backwards launches beyond slow speed because they aren't safe and comfortable.

You can't say that without knowing exactly how it would function.

For example, Flying coasters would be ridiculous with B&M invert restraints, so they invented a new technology to make it possible. You can't just assume you know everything and say "no it's impossible" without knowing what the manufacturers have up their sleeves.

Well, if the seats were reclined backwards, then the force would be more 'vertical' on the body and less on the chest, for example. You can't just rule something out without knowing how it works. Also, you don't know how powerful the launch is. For example, i can't see launching to 40mph in 4 or 5 seconds being too bad.

Most people seem to say its a family coaster, I dont think they would do a backwards launch on a family coaster.

Just for reference as well Experdition Everest had to be trimmed as people found the backwards section to intense.

The Indie coaster in Paris also went backwards, again due to complaints it now goes forward and trust me when I say thank god for that.

This is the reason I dont think it will be a backwards launch.

UC are you seriously saying everything that can be invented on coasters has been?

I know NikkyG doesn't really have anything to back his arguement up with - evidence wise.

But if people only said - No its impossible! It can't and won't ever happen then we wouldn't be very technologically advanced would we?

I understand and agree that it is unlikely that manufacturers have a way to break the laws of physics however I'm personally confident that in the future we will have ways to create backwards launches which are both safe and comfortable for the rider.

I don't think its really beyond the realms of impossibilty just unlikely at the present time.

The only clue we have been given suggests it'll be a short drop.

Just long enough to give the feeling of ultmate fear.

and that it comes out of the station facing the opposite way it went in.

You can't launch backwards fast because its ****ing uncomfortable! If any of you are at a Live with me i'll demonstrate what it feels like

You think, when you launch on Stealth or any other rides similar you can feel your face being pushed and your body being pushed back into the seat. This is a comfy thing as were used to acceleration forwards as we can deal with it.
Backwards launching isn't something were used to and its very unfomfortable. You think, reverse all what I said about launching forwards, you'll be hurtled into the restraints, if its too tight you'll be almost slammed into them and it will hurt! Your eyes will also feel as if they are about to bulge out. So its not a pleasent exprience.
My diagram can help.

Yes but as it was possible to create a oaster in which you are held facing the floor lying on your front withouth it hurting(b+m flying coaster) with an air padded bull down vest. Than surely it is possible ,after a length of trial and error and testing, to create a restraint that would hold you in a postition in which a backward launch is not only pheasable (spelling) but causes the rider no discomfort whatsoever!

Dosen't ****ing matter, you can put as much padding as you want but its the forces that make it hurt.

If I put a ten ton wait on you while you laid on the comfiest matress in the world its still going to hurt?

Yes, I agree with Dave, because just think of X:/NWO, it doesn't go particularly fast, you don't really hit anything, so there's no need for padding, but it is still very uncomfortable on the back, neck and shoulders.

Has anyone posted that Mack is meant to be delivering a coaster to the UK in 2010, or am I being slow?

^ i don't think that has been mentioned, interesting news.

Theoretically the ten ton weight would only hurt when you meet resistance from the other side, then it'd be that that hurt. So if the matress is impossibly large and impossibly comfy, it could be painless. Although you'd suffocate.

However, in practical terms, i don't think it's likely.

You could build the best restraint in the world, yet you would still need support for your head and neck, forward launches push your head back into the seat which is designed to support it, a backwards launch would send your head forwards and down towards your chest, and doing that at speed would hurt, they would need a support to stop your head from moving, now seeing as though every body is a different shape and size this would be a huge problem, also having your head stuck in one place could cause people to have panic attacks and it wouldn't be very nice/comfortable.

^I don't think it's just that that shocks me.

It's the fact that people think they can put up an argument! I think it's actually quite funny.

Anyway, backwards launches aren't going to happen (any time soon*) so I don't think this argument needs to continue. The parties that have put forward the reasons for the non-existence of a backwards launch are correct.

End of.

*just to cover my back, JUST in case!

"I find your lack of faith disturbing."

Come on, we've made going to space and back relatively safe and comfortable and we can't do it for a backwards launch?!

I'll drop it now though as your not going convince me that there isn't any possiblilty it will ever happen and I'm not going to convince you that there is.

LOL. Quote of the century. You think it's "unlikely," huh? Do you go to school?

LOL - ok that was the wrong choice of words

i give in its not possible to make a backwards launch! happy now then UC!
what could mack be bringing in to the uk then? have there been any other parks mentioning the building of a big/small coaster in 2010?

Well, it is, there's already one in this bloody country, they just have to be slow and a bit pointless

Throughout all this arguing, has it been remembered that a backwards launch is not at all a world's first?
